Lotus Pond, The617 Johnson St, Victoria
Lunch buffet
Submitted Friday, January 26, 2007 - 10:53pm [Dine in]

Prospective diners should note that the Lotus Pond offers a Chinese buffet at lunch every day they're open (Tuesday through Sunday). Some dishes appear every day (hot and sour soup, egg rolls, turnip cakes (not made with what Westerners call turnip, and simply delicious), potstickers, brown rice), but there is a range of other dishes that vary from day to day. Some dishes are a bit greasy, but overall the quality is good. You pay by weight. Members of VIVA (Victoria Island Vegetarian Association) get a 10% discount.

And at 2:30, all uneaten food is sold for half price. Often they even replenish the dishes that run out. Very good value.

Not for real Indian food fans

Horrible! What else can I say? If you can't even make a decent raita, what hope is there for more complicated dishes?

Service was slow, which turned out to be a good thing, because things got even worse once the food arrived.

There are other good places for Indian food in Victoria, and this one would be at the bottom of my list. The best is probably the cheapest - Sabri near Tillicum Mall.

A treat!

I would come here for the bread and tapenade alone, but since they give this to you free as soon as you sit down, I probably wouldn't be much of a welcome guest if I filled up on that, then left. It's tempting to do that, though, since they keep refilling both the tapenade and the bread, and one could easily make a meal of it.

The rest of the food is delicious, too. One can reliably bring an out-of-towner here and know they will be happy with their meal.

The patio is the most appealing part of the restaurant, but the whole place is attractive.

To enjoy the food for considerably less financial outlay, go for lunch, instead of dinner.

Yummy Club Sandwiches
Submitted Friday, January 26, 2007 - 10:33pm [Dine in]

As a connoisseur of club sandwiches, I heartly recommend this place, which has not one, but three different varieties. Denise's Club Sandwich was fabulous, made with caramelized onions, red pepper jelly, chicken, bacon, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce., Everything was just the right temperature, too - not tough old bacon, but freshly made; warm chicken. Charming waitress. Definitely recommended. Wish they'd start opening for dinner.

Big disappointment
Submitted Friday, January 26, 2007 - 10:26pm [Dine in]

I don't often go to such high-end restaurants, because of the price, but every nhow and then I treat myself to something considered the creme de la creme. The way restaurant reviewers gush over this place, I thought I'd be in for something special.

Well, the restaurant must know when the reviewers are coming, because this place is a big disappointment. Tiny portions of mediocre food - and I'm being generous. I would never return.

Dinner at Mo:le
Submitted Friday, January 26, 2007 - 10:19pm [Dine in]

Had my first meal here tonight and chose dinner instead of lunch to avoid line-ups.

Everything was outstanding. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious bread and herbed butter, interesting variety on the menu and lots of choices for vegans and even raw foodists. Warm atmosphere, brick walls, charm.

Think the exposed flames on the table might be a little dangerous, as a napkin could easily catch fire, but maybe I'm just the worryin' kind. Will eat there again, and definitely recommend it.
