Their name means Yakuza?
Submitted Sunday, July 1, 2012 - 9:12am [Dine in]

I think they were trying to mean professional when they came up with the name for this place. Obviously Chinese and not Japanese owned because they are calling themselves Yakuza.

It's average for your own personal hot pot.

It's just the name that bugs me. I keep checking over my shoulder in case some Japanese guy in a red Addidas jumpsuit wants me to go to the kitchen in the back.......

The New Pizza Kid on the Block
Submitted Thursday, March 15, 2012 - 8:34am [Delivery]

Ordered some pizza last night and had to figure out between the plethora of choices to choose from.
So it was decided that I would choose one that I hadn't tried before.
I've driven by them now and then and wondered what their pizza tastes like.

Well, I can attest to that now!

I knew I wasn't expecting something like a Steveston Pizza and probably something between the old fashioned pies from Mama's in Steveston.

They were very nice on the phone. I was even able to get a thinner crust pizza, but it wasn't that super thin crispy pizza that is now becoming the fashionista amongst pizza lovers in the lower mainland.
You know those places that hand toss them super thin and the crust is all bubbly with fancy ingredients?

My thin crust pizza wasn't quite like that, but it was thinner and I liked it better than the regular one which was a bit too doughy for me. Maybe if it was in the overn a bit longer or the tempurature was a bit higher to give the bottom of the pizza some extra crisp. (then again, take out pizza is typically like this unless they put corn meal underneath. The pizza boxes tend to make them steam between delivery times)
I wonder if they make this even thinner and in whole wheat? That'd be superb

Always looking for healthier alternatives :)

The wings were just average.

I think this place has potential. In a world now with food bloggers, and other food rating sites, it takes alot for a place to become popular. They have alot of competition out there and I'm sure they're still working out the menu and figuring out the perfect oven tempuratures. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day and good pizza takes time to perfect.
The toppings and menu is good. Now they need a bit of time to season it just right!

Great service!

Sushi is better than average
Submitted Friday, December 12, 2008 - 5:53pm [Dine in]

The sushi is better than average for Vancouver / Richmond. There are very few places that have the rice flavoured properly. In this case, I thought it may have been a little bit over the delicateness of Japans flavouring of the sushi rice, but still much better than no flavour at all. Which I seem to encounter at most places these days. The previous two reviews here are pretty spot on. It can be a mix and match. We've tried almost everything on the menu. Some of the twists on old Izakaya favourites didn't seem to go well with my wife (Japanese) who seems to be very critical of what and where she eats Japanese food.

There are different staff working different days, but I live the people that are there. We're sending some staff from our Hong Kong office there tonight to have a meal. I hope they enjoy it.

getting run down
Submitted Friday, December 12, 2008 - 11:11am [Dine in]

it's not the same as it used to be. I heard that the original chef went and opened up his own place. I think one of the reasons why their shanghai buns are not the same. No soup inside and the wrap is too thick. This place used to be known for it's.....hot waitresses as well as the food, but it's average now. Not that it's a bad thing. However, I did notice that it was closed on a day that it should normally have been opened. Is it still open?

to those uninformed
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 2:50pm [Dine in]

I've been reading what other people have posted and found out that there are alot of individuals who don't know or understand Izakaya or Robata type food. If you know how to appreciate this type of food you will understand. If you know the culture from where this food came from you will understand. I think for those of you thinking you'll get a belly full of food at a cheap price, don't go there. It is afterall tapas and it's supposed to go with drinks. It's not really meant to fill you,
In Japan people would go to places like these after work to meet up with coworkers and friends before they went home. They work long hours and don't want the fuss of having to cook at home and it provides them a place to unwind from work and stress and just hang out and drink. The food is supposed to accompany the drink. It's not really meant for a sit down dinner experience.
Think of going to a neighbourhood pub and you have this, a Japanese version of it.

Yes the atmosphere is brisk and at times pushy, but it's always loud and fast paced. It's not really BBQ. Don't think in terms of American food, please. It's insulting.

hottest pizza in town
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 2:41pm [Dine in]

This pizza, has a scale of hotness that you can order starting from level 6 to 9.5. They say you have to sign a waiver for it.

We tried the 9.5 and it's awesome if you like a hole in your gut and feel it burn the next day. Drink lotsa milk.

My brother and I go there now and then to get a fix. but we order a level 6 or 7 which is good enough that you can enjoy it w/o being burnt to death.

The 9.5 hot pizza, you can smell it coming from the kitchen before it gets to your table.

Mr Sport All Meat Lovers is a good one to order too. Nice crispy underneath and good assortment of meats.

What happened here?
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 2:35pm [Dine in]

It was ok before, but now since it's closure last year, it just went downhill bad in a fast way. The past 6 times I got sick from eating there. Can't say much worse than that. And I didn't even want to eat there. You know how it is. You go there trying to give them another chance and you still end up sick from their food.

I'm sorry to say, it's just not the same. Is it new owners?
My problem is I'm now afraid to eat out at places like these cause they cheap out on the food at the expense of their customers.
