Ocean Club, The100 Park Royal, #105, West Vancouver
Uninspiring but Beautiful Decor
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 4:28pm [Dine in]

Last night we visited the Ocean Club because they advertised a special three course meal for $29 (served between 5 and 7) and it claimed to have a beautiful interior and ambiance. While we absolutely loved the interior -- it is modern, classy and hip, we had to ask for the special menu, despite arriving at 6 and having confirmed this special by phone before we left. Instead, we were presented with a much pricier menu and a waiter, who quite frankly, acted like it was a huge inconvenience on his part to serve us. This was rather strange, given that we were the only patrons at the time, with the exception of someone sitting at the bar (although a rather strange mix of people filtered in slowly later on) We ordered our food and found it to be generally good (especially the O.C. burger), although it was far from outstanding and fairly uninspiring. We also had to wait quite a long time for food, and finally, after requesting some bread to stop our stomachs from growling, we were told that this would take awhile and that we should just wait for our food, which was almost ready. Overall, the dinner was basically worth the $29 given the other high prices that we saw on the menu. We also had a somewhat pleasant time (mainly because of the beautiful decor) and despite a complete lack of attentive service (although the waiter did seem very attentive to the female servers and bar patron). We were also pleased that we could take our unfinished bottle of wine home with us. Yet, I really doubt that we will return to the place given the great number of fabulous restaurants with outstanding food and service, especially in the downtown Vanouver area, where this seems to matter a lot more to business owners who probably cater more to tourists and professionals.
