Sushi Katsu1857-1861 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
great value here
Submitted Saturday, April 18, 2009 - 10:43am [Dine in]

The Sushi Katsu is the only Japanese/Chinese place I know of where you can get a bottle of sake for only $3.50!!! add a plate of gyoza(7 fat pieces) for $3.95,and you're doing alright! Because the people running it are Chinese, they give bigger portions...the adashi tofu is huge! A lunch Bento box is great value for $7.50, better tasting than most and the fish is fresh and the size of the pieces are generous. Service is good but nothing to write home about. For the money it is great value and the food is very good.

Pho Linh325 East Broadway, Vancouver
good value
Submitted Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 10:16am [Dine in]

The pho at the Pho Linh is quite good, it actually serves raw slices of beef in broth when ordered! There are pho houses which have rare beef (pho tai) on the menu but serve grey, overcooked meat and some give very little beef. It is a family restaurant and has that casual ambience as such; so don't expect crisp, professional service, take it for what it is: a good value family restaurant that makes a great pho and is consistent in quality.

Thai Son Restaurant2800 East 1st Avenue, #230, Vancouver
Outstanding value and consistency
Submitted Friday, November 7, 2008 - 11:19am [Dine in]

There are certain items on Thai Son's menu that make this an outstanding restaurant. The spicy beef on rice, the lemongrass chicken on rice, the combo of pork chop and chicken on rice and certain Pho soups make this a consistently good and cheap dining experience. these meals are under $10 with tip! There is a larqe quantity of very good food at ridiculous prices. Many fashionable eateries could not match the quality or taste of the grilled lemongrass chicken breast, certainly not for $7.!!!
Thai Son is a restaurant chain who's food is consistent and gives terrific value.

Yoshi Japanese Restaurant689 Denman Street, Vancouver
High quality authentic japanese food
Submitted Friday, November 7, 2008 - 11:05am [Dine in]

In Vancouver where poseurs abound, authentic Japanese restaurants are hard to come by; all you can eat places run by non Japanese chefs are everywhere; people have a jaundiced view after frequenting such establishments.
Yoshi's has classic food beautifully prepared, second to Tojo's at much lower prices, and excellent in taste. I feel that some that eat here are comparing Yoshi's to those horrible all you can eat places and do not recognise its value.
Some people overeat at Japanese restaurants because of their experiences at cheap japanese dining(they're gluttons) and are surprised by Yoshi's prices; however how can one protest about prices when a dinner for two at a bad eatery(such as Earl's) costs more than Yoshi's.
I do not require a server fawning all over me to make my meal a wonderful dining experience. It's all about the food!
