Good cheap coffee shop on South Granville
Submitted Monday, November 5, 2007 - 2:47pm [Dine in]

You can get more than coffee/tea. They feature a daily soup for $3.75 and sandwiches they make fresh. Plus there are always some tempting baked goods. Lots of Magazines to read.

Friendly staff and it all adds up to a nice place to take a break.

Very Good Food
Submitted Saturday, November 3, 2007 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

First you have to find this restaurant. it is on the second floor over the comedy club. It is right beside the skytrain station.

Decor is odd, something out of the fifties. The food is very good, and they give you little extras to try. We had the steak and the
Ukranian combo platter. Both were excellent.

Bad Food served cold
Submitted Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 2:10pm [Dine in]

I ordered the lunch special. Beef Teryaki and a small wonton soup to start. They brought everything at once, so the main dish sat on the table getting cold while I ate the soup.

It hardly mattered as the Beef Teryaki was served on a stone cold pile of rice they must have made at dawn. The Beef instead of being tender strips in Teryaki sauce was small squares of shoe leather in a sticky glaze. Dreadful.

Good Food/space for large groups
Submitted Monday, October 29, 2007 - 12:09pm [Dine in]

The restaurant is all booths and some are very large where a group of 8 could easily fit. It is a little bright and they could improve the ambiance by trurning down some of the lights.

Service was attentive. Food was basic Japanese sushi and Bento Box but was very good. Order the Large Kirin Beer and split it between two.

Great Greek lunch
Submitted Thursday, October 25, 2007 - 2:45pm [Dine in]

Traditional Greek food. We had the chicken souvlaki for lunch. You get dinner size portions and the price is decent. Lunch for two $25.

Service is a little slow, but every restaurant in Vancouver seems to be understaffed right now.

It lives up to your expectations with traditional recipes.

A fun evening
Submitted Saturday, October 20, 2007 - 1:38pm [Dine in]

We went here because they were the only place open and then we ended up having a really good time. Friendly with Ok food, burgers and rice bowls. Staff was attentive and the place is busy and upbeat.

Excellent cheap home cooking
Submitted Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 3:30pm [Dine in]

The cafeteria is run by the Culinary Arts Students. Dinner runs from 5:30 to 7:00. Excellent home style Dinners for under $10. You can also take it out. Usually a roast of the day, several meat choices, several fish choices and a vegetarian choice.

Lots of locals eat their main meal here every evening so you won't feel out of place if you aren't a student.

Park and eat here for cheap before the Game.

Cheap Tasty Lunch
Submitted Friday, October 12, 2007 - 5:16pm [Dine in]

The prices are cheap, the food is tasty and you get large portions.
We had the Ginger chicken and the Yellow Chicken curry. Both were good and came with a spring roll. Total Bill $12 for two.

The place is busy and only one waitress who is run off her feet. So be patient, and be nice to the hard-working waitress.

Take Japanese Food2580 Granville Street, Vancouver
Pervasive pong of the fish tank
Submitted Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 2:35pm [Dine in]

Japanese fast food restaurant serving udon, Bento box and sushi. Food is unremarkable but cheap for the south Granville area. Get the take-out and eat in the park by the School Board on 10th Avenue. If you eat in there is a pervasive pong from the dirty fish tank.

Bland Food
Submitted Tuesday, October 9, 2007 - 1:59pm [Dine in]

I've eaten here a few times and to me the food is bland with no flavor. It is always busy though with Filipino customers, so I think the food just isn't to my taste. Perhaps the trick is to go with a Filipino friend and let them order.

Cafeteria style, inexpensive and large portions. They need to have someone clear the tables more often.

They need to ditch the attitude
Submitted Friday, October 5, 2007 - 9:13pm [Dine in]

We went to this restaurant because of all it's good reviews. It was early 5:00 p.m. and the restaurant was empty. And we get "Do you have a reservation?". I mean this place was empty. They gave us the worst table. So we move and are told we can't sit by the window because it is "reserved". They do seat us at a better table finally, but the restaurant stayed relatively empty and the "reserved" window tables were empty throughout our whole meal. This is a Bistro for heavens sake. Ditch the reservation book. First come first serve, and let people line up out the door.
The food was good, butithe experience put a damper on the evening.

Trendy Trendy but Slow
Submitted Friday, September 14, 2007 - 2:43pm [Dine in]

We went for lunch and the service was really slow. It was 45 minutes before there was any food in sight. The food was good, but not everyone has an hour and a half to two hours for lunch.

They have a nice patio, but not every table has an umbrella. So on a hot day if you are at an exposed table you are cooking, as the patio is enclosed with no breeze.

Go for brunch or lunch when time is not an issue.

Worth the splurge
Submitted Friday, September 7, 2007 - 11:23am [Dine in]

Tiny intimate restaurant with beautiful food and flawless service.

Expensive but it is worth it for a special evening. The food is fresh, organic and inspired with lovely presentation.
The food is West coast and on the evening we went our table ordered the lamb, sablefish, and organic chicken and all meals were perfect.

super diner
Submitted Thursday, September 6, 2007 - 12:36am [Dine in]

This is likea restaurant museum. A forties Diner. Don't let the area or the shabby exterior or the guys hanging around outside throw you off. Enter and be impressed. The place is busy, busy.

No menus, the food is all on blackboards on the wall. Just squish into a booth and order and eat. The food is great. Go with a buddy, someone you like to hang out with and eat great big burgers.

Disappointing
Submitted Friday, August 31, 2007 - 4:29pm [Dine in]

Cute atmosphere -- Caribbean Beach Bar, but the food was a
disappointment. Do they even have a Caribbean cook? The menu seems to have lost it's focus. Burgers and wraps trying to hide as Caribbean food.

And curries?? -- fusion run amok. The food was really so-so. I wanted a more authentic experience.

A little hole in the wall cafe, but you enter and you feel like you've been transported to India. It's an experience. The perfect place to take visiting teenagers.

The food is good and prices are reasonable.

Relaxing Lunch
Submitted Wednesday, August 1, 2007 - 2:53pm [Dine in]

We had a nice relaxing lunch at a reasonable price. The specials were good. They probably should have said the salmon in the pasta special was smoked not fresh, but the dish was still tasty. We weren't hurried and the service was friendly and attentive. White cloth on the table was a nice touch. Altogether a laid back and relaxing lunch with good food.
