It is what it is ~

I like this place and i'll keep going back.
I have read the other reviews and I completely understand what they are talking about when they say the service is bad - it is really awful. Every single time i have been there it takes forever to get anything to drink or to order anything off of the menu - I believe this is because they just expect everyone to order the 'All you can eat' Buffet, so they don't bother going back to tables.
In all fairness, this place is quite busy and I have seen a waiter or two make a noble effort at serving tables.

As for the food - I think the All you can eat buffet is tasty and a good deal. When you are only paying $9.95 - you can't really expect outstanding service.

I would advise people not to order anything off of the menu - it will take forever to come - if at all. If you are brave enough to try - be prepared to be disappointed.

Gave this place enough chances ~ not going back
Submitted Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 7:28pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I have been to this place about 3 or 4 times and have stopped going altogether because the service is so bad. The food itself is decent and from what I recall the price range is normal, but you practically have to use a flare gun to get someone's attention.

I figured that staff turnovers could have made this place better, but it seems as though they have a knack for hiring rude and incompetent people. If you try to order a cocktail - they will make an excuse for not being able to make one. The tea never gets refilled and when I ordered some food the waitress just stared at me and said she didn't know what that was - IT IS RIGHT IN THE MENU!!! Servers should know what is on the menu.
Getting any attention when you walk in the door and trying to get your bill is also a struggle. There is no excuse for this as I have never been here when the place is busy.

Like I said, the food is decent - but none of the staff give a damn.
There are better Korean restaurants in town and in more convenient locations.

Ok food ~ terrible service

I used to frequent this place a few years back but stopped going there after their service took a nosedive and became worse than usual.
I have lived in Korea and am aware that friendly customer service is rare and is usually not a priority in many restaurants, however, this place is just awful.

As previously mentioned if you are not Korean, you can expect to pay more ~ let's just get that out of the way first. This has not just happened to me here but some of my friends as well - but i won't get into their experiences here.

My friend and I waited in the doorway for 10 mins, being ignored until finally we had to pick up a menu and seat ourselves. After we got the attention of a waitress and ordered our food, it arrived relatively quickly (took about 15 mins) by a waiter clad in a t-shirt, khaki shorts and flip flops. Our drinks were dropped off around the same time and after that we were completely ignored for the rest of our stay while the entire staff sat at a corner table and ate (it was not after close btw and we were not the only customers in the place).
After failing to get anyone's attention to bring us our bill, i finally just gave up and walked to the cashier to pay. I paid by debit and did not give a tip (tips are for good service in my books, NOT mandatory as some people seem to believe). As i was walking towards the door the woman at the cashier started screaming at me "TIP, TIP!!!!". At this point i was completely irritated and informed her that i have lived in Korea and know that they don't even tip over there and in Canada tips are given for GOOD service not for a night of flip-flop clad waiters and ZERO service.

Aside from the bad service, the food in this place is ok but i think there are much better places to go for Korean food in Vancouver in regards to both service and food.

Best of all the Guu's (wrote review on wrong Guu page before)

I accidentally wrote this first on the wrong Guu page ~ it was meant for this location.

Best of all the Guu's
I really do think that this is the best yet least known of all the Guu restaurants. So this will work out in your favor as you can avoid the long lineups.
The food is great, i have never had a dish here that i didn't like. I was disappointed that they took the Mexican Harumaki off of the menu.
Their cocktails are unique and delicious (a little overpriced however for the small glass that you get).
9.5 times out of 10 i have had really great service and friendly waiters/waitresses. The only time i had a rude one here was on the phone when i tried to make a reservation ~ but i don't think he is working there anymore.
The ambiance is nice and relaxed ~ i would recommend this place to anyone who just wants to go somewhere nice for a drink and snack or even to go out on a date for a nice meal ~
Really great place ~ i don't think you'll be disappointed.

Hit and miss
Submitted Friday, December 19, 2008 - 3:39am [Dine in]

I have been to this place a few times. I really find it to be hit and miss - in regards to both service and food.

The last time i went, i brought 3 friends and they tacked on an
annoying 15% service charge even though the waitress screwed up my drink order and part of my food was burnt.

However, the live entertainment is interesting and amusing. This is also the only place that i can find decent Piroshki in town.

So if you go here, keep your fingers crossed that you will land on a 'hit' night.

P.S: Good luck at finding parking ~

Great place!!!

This place is great ~ the food is great ~ and the service was OUTSTANDING!!!
My friend was visiting here from Texas and i took her to this restaurant and she loved it! The owner was very sweet and checked on our table frequently and even gave her a free drink sample when she was curious about how something tasted.

The food portions are big and delicious ~ a great deal for the price i think.

The ambiance is really beautiful and unique. I really recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something different and tasty!

I love this place ~

This place is really great. It is a cute little slice of grandma's kitchen tucked away in downtown Vancouver.

The food is some home made deliciousness (my favorite is the Chicken Kiev and the Russian Borscht) and i've never had a bad experience here. (I would LOVE it if they brought back the cottege cheese perogies!)
The owner and his wife are very friendly as is the rest of the staff.
I would recommed this place to anyone who misses their grandma's cooking or anyone who is a fan of Russian/Ukrainian food.

A dissapointing experience...
Submitted Friday, December 19, 2008 - 2:46am [Dine in]

Yesterday my boyfriend and I decided to try this new Chinese bistro in North Vancouver located in the Capliano Mall. We went around 1:30(ish)pm.
Our hour-long ordeal began with us being sat at a secluded booth far from all the other customers and being ignored by the employees for the first ten minutes. We eventually had to ask a waitress to get someone to bring us menus. Finally she brought us to our waiters attention and we were given tea and our order was taken.
We ordered two dim sum dishes and a main dish of beef chow mane, however, after not recieving any food for 30 minutes (not even the dim sum) and watching the 3 tables of customers who were sat after us get their food ~ we began to get hungry and annoyed.
When we asked our waiter about the food he gave us an excuse about there being alot of take out orders and the kitchen being backed up. When i pointed out that 3 tables sat after us had gotten their food, he bluntly cut me off and went downstaires to check on our order.
After another 10 minutes we finally got our 2 small dim sum dishes and after waiting another 10 minutes our main course still had not arrived and we decided just to cancel the order. It took about another 10 minutes to finally recieve our bill, pay and leave.
Our waiter, nor anyone else working seemed apologetic or offered to correct things (ie: speed up the order, a free appitizer, or discount, etc).
When we paid for our bill our waiter continued to say that our order had been delayed due to there being lots of take out orders and that the restaurant was new and still unorganized - insteading of just admitting that our order had clearly been misplaced.
When we gave no tip (obviously) he seemed annoyed and let us leave without even uttering a 'thank you', or 'goodbye'.

From the small side dishes of dim sum we did get to eat: shrimp dumpling and spicy garlic wontons ~ the food is decent but on the pricy side (especially considering the bland atmostphere and not-so-great service).

Considering that this is a new restaurant, i would suggest that they take greater measures to treat their customers with more respect. My boyfriend was really excited to try out this new place and was dissapointed (as was I) and we will definately not be returning here or recommending this place to any of our friends or anyone else (unless they want to sit around for an hour without any food or service).
