I went to Casa Fabesso with a group of friends on a Saturday night and enjoyed the entire experience. I moved to Canada from Italy two years ago myself, and have not found many Italian restaurants in the city that have authentic cousine.
We call Casa Fabesso a few days before and were the first group to book for the evening, so we could decide the menu. We told Roberto (the chef) we wanted fish and otherwise left it up to him. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and value. We got to interact a lot both with him and with Anna. She was very knowledgeable and told us about how the dishes were created. Roberto came out of the kitchen a few times to ask how we liked it.
We got to try 10 different small dishes (including appetisers and mains) plus a delicious dessert ("Bavarese all'arancia", ask for it). Our favorites included the grilled cod with fresh tomato and basil (from Roberto's garden out back), scallops au gratin and tagliolini with prawn and zucchini. We finished off the meal with a shot of Italian grappa and a delicious espresso.
The restaurant is a little out of the way especially for those of us on transit, but this adds to its charm and the trip is definitely worth it.
