One shot failed
Submitted Tuesday, December 15, 2015 - 6:45pm [Dine in]

Let me just start off by saying that I've been to the Red Onion before but stopped going because I felt that their service was going downhill. Decided to try it out again but was disappointed.

Didn't think a burger place could go so bad. I should’ve figured it out from the lack of people in this place. I ordered a red onion burger and some fries; the meat was a bit hard and burnt and the fries were a bit cold and greasy. Was a bit disappointed as it was not cheap. I think I would give them less stars but the waitresses were okay. They were helpful and did not treat me bad. Other than that, give this place a miss.

India Bistro1157 Davie Street, Vancouver
Our choice for Indian food
Submitted Tuesday, December 15, 2015 - 12:24am [Dine in]

A couple of friends and I decided to meet up for lunch to discuss some issues regarding our music and business ventures. We decided to try India Bistro because the buffet is an easy pick and tastes good. We came too late and by the time we got a seat it was over. Since one of our pals was craving Indian from the city, we decided to stick around and just order from the menu.

We ordered some drinks to begin with and the appys gave it a nice touch. Pakoras were very good, tasted even better than the samosas which is weird. As far as the menu is concerned, it is pretty standard in terms of selections - you can get what you normally do at Indian restaurants. We got the butter chicken which was a no brainer but the other dishes (lamb vindaloo and tandoori chicken) did not fall behind. The spiciness is not too much but the taste still manages to be there. The bill did not come out too expensive if you don't count the drinks.

Flavour: food and service @ Akbars
Submitted Thursday, January 1, 2015 - 5:53pm [Dine in]

We had a really nice dinner here the other night with a couple of friends. Our reservation was for 6 o clock, but didn't get seated for another half an hour. Luckily, to spare us of our boredom, the manager came and started talking to us.

Fast forward to the 'meaty' part: the food was really well presented and perfectly seasoned, not to mention it smelled great! The chilli paneer was terrific, and the dal shorba had good flavour. The gulab jamun was rightly sweet. The restaurant was nearly full and many clients were Indian, which always is a good sign of authenticity. So it must taste like home? Service was attentive and friendly too. Our waiter was always giving us suggestions but not to the pushy/annoying point. All in all, dining here was a great experience and I would gladly do a repeat.

Romano's Pizza902 Granville Street, Vancouver
Late night cheesy satisfaction
Submitted Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - 1:30am [Dine in]

Romano's is always a good option for when you are hungry late at night. Actually, for any time, but when it's past two AM and people are hungry, its best to treat them right and give them something tasty. Great, cheap pizza which is hard to do in a location like Granville. The pizza tastes fresh, not greasy which is a plus for the prices they are charging. Lots of toppings to choose from. I especially love the blue beef cheese with mozzarella and blue cheese.

Vegan heaven?
Submitted Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - 1:17am [Dine in]

This place is probably vegan heaven. There are lots of cheap and mexican-style places around town but this one is strictly and plainly vegetarian. I wish I had known earlier!

I had the leona gayle burrito this time around (chipotle, cheese, beans, lettuce, tofu, sour cream and God knows what else) which was a good choice. I've never been really inclined towards eating tofu but the way they prepare it here is amazing. Gotta give it to the chefs this time. Perfect spot to eat with your non-meat loving friends.

Just okay.

Hmmm...not really sure if this was just a one-time thing, but my experience wasn't that great at Dennys. My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to eat breakfast at and found Dennys in a last minute resort. I am not really a fussy eater, and don't have too many expectations when it comes to places like these, but I found the food to be a little under what I was expecting, even for Dennys standards. While she opted for the veggie skillet, I ordered the fit slam "protein" which are: egg whites mixed with tomatoes and spinach, a muffin and two pieces of turkey bacon. Sounds like a big ole hearty breakfast full of protein that cant go wrong...but it did. I could barely taste the spinach and tomatoes, and the turkey bacon tasted rubbery and nothing like it. I went for the protein because I thought it would be packed, but it tasted more like the light version of it. For the prices we paid, was a little disappointed.

Great Hotel Restaurant choice in Burnaby
Submitted Sunday, December 28, 2014 - 11:50pm [Dine in]

Located inside the Delta Hotel, Ebo is definitely one of those restaurants you go to for a business lunch and really enjoy it, even if the "business" part didn't go so well. I have been here only a handful of times, one for business, and the other for happy hour and dinner but on all occasions the food has been more than amazing. You'd think that a restaurant in a casino could not have such fine dining and good food, eh? Back to the food, their mussels are never bad, and their linguini is really good. I am not much of a salad person but even here I liked their caesar. Not really the place I would frequent a lot because of the prices on the menu, but I'd definitely give it a shot if you are in the area.

You'd never think you could find great shawarma here...
Submitted Wednesday, December 24, 2014 - 5:53pm [Dine in]

One of my Moroccan friend's presented me this place and at first I was quite skeptical of it. I mean, good shawarma in a Chinese mall? Who would've thought. But one bite at the beef shawarma and mmmm, there's no going back. I don't get why people complain about the prices though. Portions are quite large, and by large I mean HUGE even for a glutton like me the shawarma was filling. Even the medium can be a little spicy, so make sure to go for mild if you cannot tolerate much heat.

Tip: bring cash. No credit cards are accepted.

Good Indian lunch @ SFU
Submitted Monday, December 22, 2014 - 9:31pm [Dine in]

If you live near SFU or work by here, this is definitely a spot to not miss. Working near here makes Himalayan a good lunch option. One of my coworkers presented me this place and after coming here a couple of times, it has become a staple. The lunch menu is great, $12 for the buffet. And for the price, it is actually really good. I really like how they make their chicken curry, and the naans never fail to disappoint. Service could use a little improvement though.
