Unforgivable Experience
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 12:46am [Delivery]

My husband and I continue our quest to find a pizza joint with decent food that will deliver to our expectations, and we intend to be faithful weekly customers.

First off, the food is excellent. Secondly, the value is actually good for today's pizza prices. Thirdly, the ambiance if you happen to walk in is just what you would like to see in a pizza place that makes and delivers those wheels of cheezy happiness to your door.

WHEN THEY ACTUALLY DELIVER.

We had happily used them three weeks in a row, and we were finally becoming relaxed and hopeful that we could once again establish a weekly pizza routine at the end of a hard work week. The pizzas were so good. The 4th time we ordered, we were told 45 minutes for delivery. 50 minutes later, we started to worry. We pre-decided that if a pizza ever arrived to our door cold, we would reject the delivery. Which we had to do. The delivery guy argued and cursed.

Then we called into report what had happened, and they told us the pizzas had come out of the oven 20 minutes after we ordered. Meaning that the delivery guy had them in his car for over 35 minutes. There was no apology, and I was in tears because the weekly ritual we have tried to re-establish for years was once again ruined. I typed out and hand-delivered a letter to management explaining what had happened, even though it was an utter waste of my time. I needed closure.

My husband and I first became friends by sharing pizzas and TV on weekends, and it's important to us. You may think this is stupid, but it's very, very important to us.

The place offers free wifi with purchase, which is perfect, but the outlets are few and far between. Plus there is no protection from the blazing, skin-hurting sunlight when it comes in, and the staff do nothing to shield the customers although I have asked TWICE now for them to lower their blinds. The drinks are usually well-made, but sometimes they allow a newb in training to serve sub-par drinks for full price, which isn't acceptable in my books.

And I once overheard the staff being excited about extra money in the till, which they split three ways. Staff should not be awarded for short-changing customers, but what do you expect of under-supervised teenagers at a grown-up job? After the 2nd botched attempt to study there, mostly due to the blinding sunlight, I will never go back there again.

(Note: Not all the staff are silly twits. I don't want everyone penalized for a couple people being stupid. Some of those guys/girls are genuinely nice)

They spent too much on Decor to pay for ingredients

I took my brother and his wife there for breakfast, and they milked us for everything they could. We ordered what we assumed to be more than enough food, and left hungry. The granola was just that, granola poured into a tiny little bowl for $5, what was supposed to be a large bowl of fruit for $8, which only had half of each fruit for a total of 2-1/2 pieces of fruit for EIGHT DOLLARS, and some sort of egg and toast dish that was just dry toast with poached egg on it for lord knows how much.

The atmosphere was so promising that we had to give it a shot, but WHAT a disappointment. I wish we could have gone to Tim's instead, but my sister in law is vegan. This place shouldn't be allowed to get a single positive review. What a horrible place to eat. Thumbs way down. Off with its head!

I am shocked at the negative reviews

It's a solid little joint and well decorated, plus the staff are very friendly. It is on the small side, but they only have room for what they can manage. The food is made fresh, promptly, and very carefully. They also give you a free appetizer while you wait that's a yummy broth with a bit of noodle tied in a bow with bits of kara-age on top. The tempura batter for the butterfly prawn is very light and crunchy, and never under or over-cooked, but most of all, I love their salmon sushi. I've also had their chirashi-zushi, which was exactly what I expected. Naturally, it's still hard to get more tea when you need it, but those are the risks of dining out, and you just have to speak out and git sum, darnit!

Very bland and boring food

I've only had take-out from there because I would never dine in what looks like a rundown classroom. The california rolls were extremely boring and bland. I do appreciate their grocery store section however, and will continue to shop there just for occasional japanese groceries, although nothing will ever convince me to buy their FROZEN food which is normally made and served fresh, like daifuku and dango. *shudder*
