Great lunch specials
Submitted Friday, May 12, 2006 - 11:56pm [Dine in]

I've been to Joe Fortes for dinner a couple time and felt that the restaurant is overrated. For the price we pay we could have found better restaurants in Vancouver. However, I went there for lunch today and found that they had these "Blue Plate Specials" that are actually daily lunch specials (Mon-Fri) catering to the business crowd. Today I had the Mediterranean fish soup and it was surprisingly good! It was basically a tomato-based soup with a generous portion of seafood (halibut, salmon, mussels, clamps, shrimps, scallops). Very tasty and filling! All for $10 I just thought it was an incredible deal. Although they were busy, service was efficient and food didn't take long to arrive. I would definitely go back and try their other daily specials. Highly recommended!

Great sushi and sashimi
Submitted Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 1:50pm [Dine in]

The sashimi and sushi were very fresh and tasty. Service a bit on the slow side since there was only one server. The chefs took their time to prepare the food but were very attentive to details. Nice setting and ambience but chairs were a little uncomfortable. Given the quality of the sushi this restaurant is worth a try.

Menu has a variety of items that will satisfy different tastes. Food was superb from appies to desserts. Portions are decent and prices very reasonable. Servers are friendly and attentive. Great dining experience overall - very well-rounded. Will definitely return!

Tried this reataurant for Dine Out and was impressed!
Their simla panir panir cheese and butter chicken were outstanding. Good portions. Great value for $25.
Will definitely return for their regular price menu to try out more items.

Disappointed...
Submitted Thursday, February 2, 2006 - 11:26am [Dine in]

I had always heard rave reviews about this restaurant so I decided to try it out for Dine Out. My friends and I were certainly disappointed - at both the food and service. The duck my friend ordered was very salty and the buffalo short ribs I had was not even as good as the frozen barbeque ribs one could get at a grocery store. The pasta on my dish was undercooked. The servers were not attentive and they did not even bother to refill our water. Bread wasn't served unless mussels were ordered (not on dine out - has to pay extra). The menu was definitely not worth the $35 and even though I am an average-sized girl I wasn't full after the meal. I am not sure how their regular menu is like but if I had to rate this restaurant solely based on this Dine Out experience, this restaurant has NOT lived up to its reputation. I wouldn't return to this restaurant for their regular menu or Dine Out and neither would I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
