Steamworks Brewing Company375 Water Street, Vancouver
after work drinks
Submitted Monday, July 14, 2008 - 9:28pm [Dine in]

Went to Steamworks after work for a few drinks and appies... how many people do they have working there? Seemed like there were dozens of them running around, but none of them were running in my direction. it took us ages to get served, and when we finally did, the server had the nerve to tell u that we had to move tables!! they must have been trying to pack that place in the silliest way. it was ridiculous.
the wine selection was pretty standard, nothing interesting, but apparently the on tap beer was good.
food seemed standard, churned out.
it's not my first choice.

A taste of South East Asia
Submitted Monday, July 14, 2008 - 9:24pm [Dine in]

Loved It!!
A long walk up Davie from English Bay worked up my appetite. Thank heavens for Kam's! Cheap and reasonable food, and even though there was a line up, we got a table pretty quickly. Food was fast and fresh, and tasted just like a trip to South East Asia! I'll be back asap! I found out later from friends that there is a coupon in the Georgia Straight.
Thanks Kam!

Looks great, but it's not

After eating at Arms Reach, i can tell the difference between what looks good, and what tastes good. Arms Reach has one of the best locations in the city, there can be on question. The quality of food and service on the other hand is a different matter. Simply watching the food network will teach you the value of fresh food, but Arms Reach hasn't gotten the message. My food was cold, had clearly been sitting around for a while, re-heated once or twice, and then served right back to me. the service was poor, with waitstaff more interested in talking with each other and their friends at the bar than in serving paying customers.

Next time i want to eat in Deep Cove, I'll pack a picnic, because Arms Reach isn't worth it.

I was recently treated to a date at SOMA. At first i was worried it was going to turn into one of those "look how much I know about wine" show off dates, but much to my surprise it wasn't! Our server helped us pick wine with our meal, and sincerely listened to both of us after asking "what do you look for in a wine?". She clearly knew what she was talking about, and she described the different glasses we ordered in the most engaging way i have ever experienced. We both asked questions and felt comfortable doing so!
At the end of the night, i had to remind myself to focus on my date, not how I feel in love with SOMA! I'm not sure about the date, but I'll definitely be going to SOMA for some more!
