Guu with Garlic1698 Robson St, Vancouver
not your typical Japanese restaurant
Submitted Friday, September 8, 2006 - 9:47pm [Dine in]

As its says at their door, Guu is goooood. The Japanese tapas here are unbelievable. Besides having a set menu, they also have daily specials that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. I've been here a couple of times and each time, they haven't failed to impress. The servers are all really friendly, and they even yell out your order in Japanese from your table. The prices are decent for each dish, but keep in mind that they're tapas and are fairly small. This is a great place to eat if you've had a late lunch or you're looking to just nibble and chat with friends. Make sure you come early, as there's a always a line at the door!

Kintaro Ramen788 Denman Street, Vancouver
best ramen EVER
Submitted Friday, September 8, 2006 - 9:42pm [Dine in]

As the title says, I think Kintaro has the best ramen ever! While Ezogiku(?) is decent, their soup and noodles don't begin to compare to Kintaro's. The noodles here are nice and springy, but not overly chewy nor soggy. The soup is to die for, though you really can't have it more than once a month or you'd really probably die of cholestrol. I would suggest the medium and the fatty pork, as it seems like a relatively good (though it is still a lot) amount of fat. The cheese ramen is pretty cool, but something that I think only need to be tried once. The regular noodles are just as good and cheaper. Though the portions are good, if you really hungry, you might not be totally full afterwards.

Late night cravings
Submitted Friday, September 8, 2006 - 9:37pm [Dine in]

This is the best place to satisfy your late night pho cravings! Though its not longer officially 24/7, their hours are from like 9am to 7am, or something ridiculously long like that. The decor is pretty sketchy, with the neon lights giving you a headache at times, but you'll probably be staring at your noodles most of the time anyways, so no worries there. The pho is tasty, has good portions of meat, and is oh-so-economical. I can eat quite a bit, and their large is usually pretty filling. For the truly ravenous, the extra large is sure to satisfy! Give this place a try!
