Overpriced
Submitted Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 5:44pm [Dine in]

Went here for dinner with a group of 8 people on a Wednesday evening. We were seated in one of the private rooms. The room its self was nice, however the "walls" between rooms are just wall dividers, and very thin, you can hear everything that is going on in the next "room" and some people are very loud. We were unlucky to have a family with loud screaming children running around in their room banging on the walls on one side, then a group of 20-something drunk men on the other side who were even louder than the children.

The food was pretty good, but small portions for the price. I ordered the grilled eggplant to start ($4.50) which was a tiny portion - not for sharing. Then I ordered the avocado yam roll ($9) which was good, but for that price I expected a larger size roll. Someone else in my group ordered the miso black cod - which I tasted, and it was delicious. A few of our orders were messed up, and some food came quite late. Some orders never arrived even though we asked about them a couple times. The first roll that came to our table had ginger and wasabi on the plate, all the ones that came after did not, we kept having to ask them to bring us some.

They did give us free mango ice cream at the end of our meal, which was nice. I'm not sure if this is something everyone gets or if they brought them to us because of the mix ups with our orders.

All in all it wasn't a horrible meal, but I won't be back. There are so many other sushi restaurants in the lower mainland, a lot which are much better and cheaper than this place.

I love this place! I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had, but it is very good, especially for the price. Their wild sockeye sashimi is excellent. Their spider roll is also very good. I don't know if it's owned by Japanese people, but the chef and the girls all speak Japanese to each other. The inside is very nice, there are booths and tables. The service is very fast and the girls are very friendly and attentive.

Not impressed...

My friend and I went here for dinner tonight, first time at this new location. We were both quite excited because her and I go to Cactus Club all the time, and this one is really close to both of our homes. I was very disappointed.. we went at 8pm on a Thursday evening, and got seated at a table right next to some screaming kids! What the hell! When did Cactus Club become a daycare??? The parents of the kids were letting them run all over the place and scream, and the servers did nothing and didn't even ask the parents to control their obnoxious kids. They have taken my fav BBQ chicken sandwich off the menu, so I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich, which was "okay". My friend ordered the chicken rice bowl, and they sure have changed that, the portion was TINY and they don't even serve it with the crackers anymore, now it's just half a cup of rice with some steamed veggies and a tiny bit of chicken. Very disappointing for the price they charge! When we were leaving there were more annoying kids running around and intentionally blocking our way. I always thought of Cactus Club as an adult oriented place, but this location is turning into ABC Family Restaurant. The only cool thing about the new location is their lighting, their light fixtures are cool. Everything else? Not impressed...

Death for sure...

Death By Chocolate used to be nice, what the hell happened??? My friend and I went there tonight after dinner for dessert, and we had the worst service ever! When we went in there was this older eastern european looking lady who didn't even bother to greet us. Most of the stuff on the menu was "not available".. I ordered a lemon bar that I saw under the glass in the display, my friend had a brownie bar. When I placed my order the grey haired woman said "you take this to go?" and I said "No, for here" and she gave me a dirty look! She then proceeded to serve me the lemon bar on a disgusting dirty blue plastic cafeteria tray! I was appalled. My friend got her brownie bar and we went to sit down, and the grey haired lady started closing the till, and bringing all the chairs in from outside! Now this was at 9pm, and on the door it said they close at 10pm, so she was closing up the store an hour early. She made a whole bunch of noise and needless to say the ambience was awful. The worst part is though, when I actually tasted my lemon bar, it was terribly stale, and tasted like chemical cleaner! It tasted like she had sprayed it with soap! I had two bites and left the rest on the table. My friend's brownie bar was no better. The whole cafe was horribly dusty inside, and we were the only people in there. I will NEVER go there again!!!!! Everyone STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
