Shopping in south Surrey and decided to try the Cactus Club in the complex. Not sure what is considered ambiance but long wait, high noise level with tables packed together is NOT mine. While waiting for a table, you are facing a place where the staff are continually going in and out, It is hard not to notice that all staff members are really attractive people - lots of Barbies and Kens. I kept looking for someone who was overweight, or average looking....or pregnant. I have no respect for a place that hires on appearance first, even though our server was good and attentive. I just found it very off-putting. The food was good and, considering how busy the place was, service was good too. But, I won't go back. I like to dine in a relaxing atmosphere where I can hear my friends speak without leaning forward to hear what they are saying. If Cactus Club is getting that mkuch business at that location, they should expand or add a 2nd location.
This has the BEST Pho soup in the area. A friend told me another place had the best soup in the area so I thought I better give it a try but it didn't even come close! I have been there numerous times and the servers seem to be the owner and her 2 sons. They do a great job - attrentive but not annoying. Ambiance is nill but clean. I prefer the non-meat pho soup and the menu has a great one with big chunks of tofu - really well done. My friends have told me the meat soup choices are good too. Very good value and soup comes in two sizes - ordered take-out once and got an incredible amount of food for the money.
I was told that this place had the best Pho soup in the lower mainland by someone who drives from White Rock to get it. I usually go to another place fairly close to this one so have been wanting to try it. Went Saturday night. The place was large and fairly full. Staff was attentive but not terribly helpful with menu. I wanted Pho soup without meat and there was only one choice "plain" so I had that. Bland would best describe it - a bowl with a thin broth, smallist noodles, and green onions with bean sprouts, peppers, and sauce on the side. The other place has better noodles, taster broth, big chunks of tofu and more choice of side dishes. The shrimp rolls here were very inpressive. The spring rolls boring. Tea was even weak. I don't think I will go back.
Went with a group after a show for a late dinner. The server was attentive and helpful with suggestions - I ordered the falafel as a main course. On the menu, it said FALAFEL - $10 with the oprion of HUMMOUS - $2, TZATZIKI - $2. Falafel was on the menu as a share appetizer. I was asked if wanted the add-ons and I said yes. So I got was - 4 small falafel "meatballs" about 1 1/4 inch across, 7-8 small triangles of pita bread (approx 2" each side), approx 1/2 medium sized tomato cut into slices and the equivalent of english cucumber, and on a lettuce leaf in the centre of the plate, 3 blobs approx a rounded tablespoon size of hummous, tzatziki, and a ricey thing I don't remember exactly. So I paid $2 each for a very small amount of sauces. I would rather they had priced it at $15-$16 and given me a bit more sauce. It you are going to price something as an add-on, there should be a decent amount received. Everything else was fine. I will go back at least once more, but I will definitely watch my pricing and take issue if deceptive.
We have been to this restaurant quite a few times and found it a great place to eat with kids. I admit I avoid times when there is a game on but otherwise we have not had a problem with service or quality of food. The servers were helpfull and even have given us Free Meal Coupons for the kids on more than one occasion. Food was good, hot and well served. It is not the best food in the world but this is not to be expected at this kind of restaurant.
