Authentic Ambiance, Poor Food & Service
Submitted Wednesday, September 6, 2006 - 7:28pm [Dine in]

I first thought this would be a good meal, but it turned out so ugly I don't even dare to pull it out of my memory again. We arrived there at around 7pm, and we were led to the downstairs bar to wait for our seat. After 20mins we went up and it shocked me once I got up stairs because there was a couple of old women wearing a fully traditional kimono. I guess that's the uniform for managers? The decorations in there were very authentic, and so are the overall designs.

We got seated, and not surprising there was another group of customers also sat down beside us at the same time. The most disappointing part was the chef. He wasn't Japanese (not that I expected him to be) but I'm not even sure he has acquired all the skills yet. He failed 3,4 times in certain tricks and they weren't that interesting either. Anyways, the other group of customers beside us ordered tons of drinks, and at a certain point, they started to offer drinks to the chef, until at last they ordered drinks right for him. I find that some what not professional, because he wasn't even half way through cooking anything.

The food arrives, and I totally got mad at this because I ordered the "KOBE EMPEROR'S SPECIAL: Lobster & Steak" it sounded like enough, but when it came, the two are only roughly the size of your hand when put together side by side! What a rip off, the prices were high, but the food only worth half of it.

To avoid further damn to my mental health, we left that place ASAP, and like every customer, we find ourselves covered in greaseā€¦.. I would never ever even go near that building again!

Best Sushi Restaurant Ever!
Submitted Wednesday, September 6, 2006 - 6:55pm [Dine in]

The sushi there was incredible! A note to the user that posted the previous review, the "hamachi-related fish" is called kanpachi. I've been to many different sushi restaurants (medium price ones, obviously the most expensive ones would be way much better than this) both in Canada and Japan, but this one is the best of all. It's casual and you can relax there have a beer with a friend or just your family dining. The restaurant is not big, there are approximately 7 tables and one sushi bar with 7 seats. The ambiance isn't the greatest in the world, but like I said, it's casual. I always choose to sit at the sushi bar because the skill of the chef amazes me every time; plus you can chat with the chef and he will recommend you with different types of fishes (although I'm not sure he is good at English, but he does speak both Japanese and Korean). You can tell that much care and effort is put into each and every piece of creation. While enjoying the great food, I do find the prices there above average as well, so be prepared!
