Marcello Pizzeria1404 Commercial, Vancouver
Avoid

What can I say? I have been here three times and all three times the service was terrible but this last time took the cake. We were seated about 1 hr. before closing time and at 15 mins to closing they started dragging large black bags of garbage by our table out the back door. At 5 mins to closing they actually turned the lights on and off a few times as we were finishing our dessert. I could not believe it! I mean seriously, I have seen a lot of things in the Vancouver restaurant business but this took the cake for poor service. Avoid.

Well there isn't much to say about my visit to this place a few months ago. I was confused as to what exactly the style was and I'm still not sure what they are trying to achieve. In a nutshell:

Slow Service
Overpriced
Limited choices
Dirty Tables
Average food with small portions

Like the title says, this will be another casualty in the Vancouver dinning seen.

Terracotta Modern Chinese52 Alexander Street, Vancouver
A great new place worth visiting

Our group went here on a Friday night and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent and a nice twist on traditional Chinese. We went around around the table and ordered a few dishes at a time, enjoyed them and then ordered more. The service was very good. A few knocks, the wine list was surprisingly small with only two whites on it and the ambiance was boring and dark. With all this said, we had a really great time and would recommend Terracotta to anyone. Gastown is really changing and its places like this that will continue to help it with its renaissance.

Ciao Bella Italian Restaurant703 Denman Street, Vancouver
An old school neighbourhood gem

My friend and I went here on Friday night and were very impressed. We learned about the place vis Opentable and while I had walked by it many times the statute of the Italian cook outside screamed cheesey so I had avoided it. The food is very good traditional Italian at very reasonable prices. Large portions of pasta for $17, 3 course for $20 and 4 course for $30. The wine was well priced. A bottle that we had was $40 but retailed at the LCB at $27 so the mark up was very reasonable. It was Friday so they had a piano player which added a nice touch. The crowd was a nice mix of young couples and older people and the ambiance was a nice place to talk or have a date. My only knock would be, our server was terrific and attentive but after we had eaten he just disappeared (as though he went off shift) and never told us. The other servers served us but it was a bit odd as we weren't told. If you are looking for a party restaurant like the Italian Kitchen this is not the place but if you are looking for great food, no pretention and very good value this is a place worth trying.

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
Still the best Pasta Value in town

Simply, I have never left hungry or unhappy. I have been to Anton's hundreds of times over the years. Be prepared for crowed tables and busy servers and long waits but its worth it. Not a place for a first date, a place to have great pasta at an excellent value.

Very Good Indian Experience

My wife and I ate at Raja twice (once take out) On our recent visit it was 3 pm so the resturant was quite empty. That being said, the service was excellent. Attentive, quick, and kind. My wife ordered a Mango Lassi and the server brought me my own small glass so I could taste it. We each had the Dinner Specials and they were very good. Large portions. On my Tandori Special I wanted some dipping sauce. I asked for some butter sauce and it was brought to me. I was not charged for it but at another place I was at recently I was. The Nan bread that came with the specials was HUGE and fresh from the oven. In the end we did not finish our meals and got a doggie bag. We have been to many of the more well known "Trendy" Indian Restuarants and been very disappointed. Raja is very traditional and the best one that we have found so far. We would recommend it to anyone.
