Sukiyaki worth trying out
Submitted Monday, May 11, 2009 - 9:01am [Dine in]

My family decided to go here for a Mothers day dinner after my father has been here before and though ti was pretty good.

FOOD
I thought the food was good, vegetables were fresh, but with sukiyaki anywhere the flavSuour gets tiring, and is not something i would want to eat that often.

SERVICE
The host/hostess was quite polite, and brought us to our table very quickly after coming in. Our server was very polite, attentative and good at explaining everything throughout our dinner. The only thing that went wrong was she forgot our waters that we asked for near the end of dinner and was a litlte slow settling up when we wanted to leave.

AMBIANCE
Ok atmosphere, and nice that they have a few big screen TVs, although the place was very chilly, and I notice most ppl around were still wearing their jackets.

Overall it was a good experience, and worth checking out, but I dunno if its something like AYCE sushi that i would want to go for that often.

Good place sf
Submitted Monday, May 11, 2009 - 8:48am [Dine in]

Me and my friend wanted to check this place since walking by a few times, and it looked pretty cool at night.

The drinks were expensive, but that's a given for most lounges in yaletown. The crowd was a little older than we were hoping(some pple in their 50s), there was a good mix of ppl, nice music, and overall good atmosphere...

The service was allright, nothing really special, but enough to keep us satisfied. They were giving out free Heineken beers the night we went, so that was a nice bonus! I would definitely go out here again to have a few drinks...

Best Shawarma in Vancouver!
Submitted Sunday, May 3, 2009 - 10:11am [Dine in]

This has to be the best Shawarma place in Vancouver as I've been to almost every one in downtown... Me and my fiance have been going here for years, and every time we're never dissapointed.

From the moment we get there they are very friendly and polite, and quick to take our order. The food comes within a few minutes, and is delicious with generous portions! I love to get the Large shawarma plate which is huge! They also just renovated so the place has more seating, and more comfortable seats.

I would recommend this place to anyone who is in the west end area, and is craving a delicious shawarma or donair :)

Submitted Saturday, May 2, 2009 - 8:29pm [Dine in]

We usually go to downtown west end to get donairs, but we wanted to avoid the hockey crowds so we thought we would check out this place since it was close to us and got good reviews...

Its not exactly a place u would go to eat at since there are only 3 tables... The food was really yummy and quick, although the people working there weren't that polite...

Overall it was a good, quick place and we would definitely go there again, maybe just for takeout next time..

Surprisingly good compared to the granville location
Submitted Monday, February 16, 2009 - 8:56am [Dine in]

I kept hearing about this place so we decided to finally check this place out becasuse we moved closer to Surrey.

When we first got their it was packed, and we ended up waiting an hour, but that was because we had a table of 10, their was a canucks game, and it was also their 39 cent wing night.

When we finally got our table, they were quick to take our drink and food orders, as they let us know that it might be a little while for the wings given that it was so busy.

The wings were delicious, warm and cheap, and the salads were much to be desired, but would you seroiusly go to wings for a salad? i dont think so...

Throughout the dinner, our server was very attentive and polite, and under stress the main hostess did an excellent job from keeping the crowds under control.

We would definitely go back there again, but I would make sure I would go when I dont have to work the next morning. I only had 50 wings, I could have definitely had 20-30 more since they were so delicious...

The perfect fine dining experience
Submitted Monday, February 16, 2009 - 8:29am [Dine in]

we went to Chambar for valentines day and the experience, the restaurant and the food definitely lived up to its reputation and its hype. right from the moment we walked in the door to the time that we finished our meal everone was polite, knowledgeable and went out of their way to make it a pleasant and special dining experience for us.

The food is delectable, and they had a wide array of lagers and beers to choose from. The food was unique and we had especially enjoyed the beef bourguignon. The Baked Alaska desert was the perfect way to appease our taste buds because it wasnt too sweet for myself, but sweet enough for my fiance to enjoy.

Great Quick Shawarma!
Submitted Saturday, February 14, 2009 - 10:44am [Dine in]

Me and my coworkers go to this place every week, and the couple who runs the place are really pleasant and friendly, and make some great shawarma! Most of the meals are between $6-$7, and the portions size are very generous. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who works in the downtown area who has a healthy appetite!

The only downside to this place is the food is so big and delicious, it makes for a slow afternoon at the office...

This place isnt going to last...
Submitted Saturday, February 14, 2009 - 9:21am [Dine in]

Me and a few friends were walking down granville, and were going to go to one of our usual spots for a few drinks, but we thought we would see this place because it looked kinda cool on the inside, although from the outside can be very mileading...

The atmosphere is nice and they have good house music in the background, and if you want a nice spacious place this is the place to go because there was only about 20-30 people there. We asked our waitress if this was a new place, and she said that they've been around for about 1 year now, and things will pick up around 10. It was almost 11 and there only maybe 10 more people so we decided to leave.

When we got the bill, it came to $110 after tax for 12 beers! Thats 7+tax per beer, and it was nothing special, just heinekens.. My friend put it on my his credit card, and I told him not to tip because even at clubs they only charge about 6 give or take, and that includes tax/gratuity!!

We would definitely not go here again, or recommend this to anyone, and I doubt that they will be around for that much longer.

Speedy Lunch Service
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

I went here with my co-workers for lunch this past Friday and had a pleasant time. Although we were a large party with no reservations, we were able to get a table within a reasonable amount of time (unlike Joey's that stated a 2 hour wait).

Food: Pretty solid considering they're known mostly for their steaks. They had a wide variety of menu items that were suitable for our diverse group.

Service: Outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. He made sure our order was expedited so that we would not run late for our upcoming meetings after lunch.

Value: Solid for what we had.

Ambiance: Nice for a lunch. Not too noisy but still felt lively.

I would highly recommend coming here if you get "wait-listed" at Joey's or Cactus Club down the street!

Good Food - Poor Service
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 4:21pm [Dine in]

Went to Montana's last night w/my fiance's B-Day and had a mediocre time.

Food: Solid ribs as usual. We ordered their chicken wings to start, which were pretty good. A bit too much breading for my liking. I especially enjoyed their corn bread. One thing we both regretted ordering there were their cocktails (where's the alcohol? Or is it meant to just taste like syrup?)

Service: Where to start..where to start. First, the hostesses were fairly rude and didn't seem to know what was going on around them. After waiting 30 minutes, we were finally seated and greeted by our waitress. Long story short - our waitress was never around. She didn't do any quality checks or even come back to ask if we wanted other drinks once we were finished with the ones we had. I don't think I saw her smile even once last night! When we did want/need something, we had to flag her down.

Value: solid.

Ambiance: I think I'm done w/the quirky family style decor they have going on there.

Overall: if I ever want ribs from Montana's again I'll just go to the Langley location.

Good Pub Food
Submitted Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 10:56am [Dine in]

We decided to try out this pub since we moved to the area and wanted to find a close place for good wings.

From the time we arrived, our waitress was really nice and quick to take our drink orders, and they offered great specials, even for a Saturday night. We really went for wings, but decided to try the party platter to see how some of the other food was. We thought the wings were great, and the other food was pretty good too. It was a very comfortable, warm atmosphere with good attention from the server. The only thing that we didnt like about our experience were the sketchy ppl sitting close to us, but that can happen at any restaurant, especially a pub,

We would definitely be going there in the future for there 29 cent wings!

Excellent NYE @ Granville Room
Submitted Thursday, January 1, 2009 - 2:48pm [Dine in]

Spent NYE at the Granville Room with a few friends and had an excellent time.

The food: surprisingly good! There was a set menu priced at $50 that included an appetizer, entree and dessert. We all had a variety of the dishes and found them to be spectacularly good for a lounge-type restaurant! I had the grilled tenderloin and it was perfectly cooked and absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious. For dessert, I had a chocolate/cookie concoction that was tasty, but my friends all had their cheese cake w/red bull reduction. I wasn't adventurous enough to order the cheese cake but did taste it and the red bull reduction was really good (WHO KNEW!). They also have an excellent variety of cocktails and martini's.

The service: Wonderful. Our waitress was patient, polite and prompt.

The value: Excellent for a NYE celebration. Other establishments were charging upwards of $80, so dinner here was of great value. I found their drinks to be a bit pricey at first ($9 a beverage) BUT, after tasting them I could understand why. Their drinks have a significant amount of alcohol (not a whole lot of filler/ice etc.).

The ambiance: Perfect. It's a great little place to celebrate with a few friends or have a romantic dinner for a date.

I would highly HIGHLY recommend this place if you're looking for excellent food, tasty drinks, and a chic and romantic atmosphere.

Great Ribs
Submitted Monday, December 29, 2008 - 12:17pm [Dine in]

Went here this weekend w/my fiance and had a great dinner here.

The food: Delicious finger-licking ribs. My fiance had the rib tips and I had the brisket sandwich. When I saw my sandwich I was disappointed that there wasn't any bbq sauce or accompaniments on the sandwich (no lettuce, tomato, etc.). BUT, after I took one bite I could understand why. The brisket in the sandwich was SO tender and juicy. YUM! Both were delicious.

The service: our waitress was very attentive to our needs. She came back and checked up on us several times throughout the dinner (even though she had plenty of other tables to look after as well).

The value: good. We would definitely go again.

The ambiance: fits the style of restaurant. They go w/the "cabin" ambiance and commit to it.

Overall, I would highly recommend Montana's in Langley if you're looking for a filling meal. Stick with the ribs and the brisket and you're guaranteed to have a great meal.

Tasty Lobster in RMD
Submitted Friday, December 26, 2008 - 2:27pm [Dine in]

I came here for dinner w/my family on Tuesday and had a pretty good experience at Gala Seafood Restaurant.

The food: Some of the dishes were pretty forgettable (the fish maw soup...fried prawns with walnuts..) but I really really REALLY enjoyed the lobster with noodles. The lobster was tender, tasty and perfectly cooked. YUM! I also really enjoyed their peking duck wraps. The part I enjoyed the most about the peking duck was that they carved part of it at our table (being chinese and having eaten at countless number of restaurants..this is the first time I've seen this kind of service).

The service: our waiter (possibly a manager?) was very attentive. Overall, I think we got superior service than normal because the restaurant was so quiet (b/c of the weather - being snowy and all).

The value: average for chinese restaurants in the lower mainland.

The ambiance: really nice. I especially liked the HUGE chandelier we sat under.

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves lobster!

Solid sushi in North Burnaby.
Submitted Sunday, December 21, 2008 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

So, for Northern Bby standards Akira Sushi offers pretty solid sushi.

Food: pretty tasty. Their sushi is solid and I really enjoyed their yakisoba noodles. The only item I didn't find all that satisfying was their agedashi tofu..it was pretty tasteless.

Service: standard. We order take-out from here and the wait is usually 15 min. The waiters & waitresses are polite.

Value: average.

Ambiance: it looks clean with a good number of tables if you want to dine-in.

Overall: this is the best take-out sushi we've had in N. Bby so far..which doesn't say very much. I must say that I miss the variety of sushi restaurants that Vancouver offers....I miss Vancouver sushi!!!

Extremely long wait for take-out.
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 9:32pm [Dine in]

Went here tonight w/my fiance for some take-out sushi. Was told that we should come back in 20 minutes, and we did. After 40, yes, that's right FORTY minutes we got our 2 sushi rolls and 4 pieces of sushi. Forty minutes.

Food: good. Not great, but good for take-out. If we didn't experience the excruciatingly long wait for our take-out, this would have become our sushi take-out place since we live relatively close.

Service: atrocious. The woman who took our order was polite enough. But when I went back after being told the wait would be 20 minutes, she didn't even acknowledge me. I was told the food would be ready in another 5 minutes, but it was another TWENTY minutes before I received my order. Clearly they were putting other orders ahead of ours.

Value: it's pretty standard for sushi in Burnaby. I guess...

Ambiance: what ambiance? It's a take-out place with tables and chairs.

Would I recommend this place? Sure, if you're willing to wait 40 minutes for 2 rolls and 4 pieces of sushi.

Tasty Hot Subs!
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 3:11pm [Dine in]

This might not be the prettiest place to look at or the nicest place to dine in, but it certainly has the tastiest hot subs!

Food: I L-O-V-E their hot torta subs. My favourite is the chicken. Their doughnuts are pretty tasty too. I love their cake doughnut with lemon jelly.

Service: It's a fast food place, so, I can't say a whole lot about their service.

Value: Pretty good for fast food. It's definitely worth the few dollars for their hot torta subs!

Ambiance: Once again, it's a fast food place..but it's definitely a notch higher than the original "Duffin's" on Main street.

Filling Pasta
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 2:52pm [Dine in]

I went here w/my fiance this past weekend for some hearty pasta and we definitely got what we asked for with Anducci's.

Food: Firstly, the portions are HUGE. Just as big (if not bigger) than Anton's, which is great, if that's your thing. The taste? Well, I found my dish (The Laverne & Shirley) to be quite bland. My fiance had a pasta with smoked salmon, capers and asparagus which he enjoyed (but felt was really REALLY rich). I also enjoyed a glass of their sangria which was large as well.

Service: Our waitress was very polite and very quick. She got us everything we asked for within a short period of time.

Value: Great! The portions were huge. I took home 2/3's of my dinner which served great as a leftover lunch & dinner the following day.

Ambiance: A little "off". It's rather dark inside and it certainly didn't help that our table was super wobbly. Everytime we raised an arm the whole table shook!

I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Anton's but doesn't want to wait in a line for 30 min.

Delicious Jamaican Food
Submitted Friday, November 28, 2008 - 10:21pm [Dine in]

Me and my fiance decided to visit this restaurant as I missed the patty shop by my old home and wanted some good jamaican food. I read about this place online and it got some good reviews so we decided to check it out.

From the time we walked in we received very personable service, and the food was as we rated it, incredible. I had the jerk chicken and my fiance had the BBQ chicken, and we both enjoyed it. Both the punch and the pineapple cake dessert we had were both so delicious.

We weren't too happy about the chips that we received in the beginning of dinner; they looked like they were reused from a previous dinner. The only real complaint we have is that we found it a little overpriced for what we got. Our bill came to $60 when we had 2 entrees, 1 dessert and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. If it was a little cheaper, we would probably eat there more often, but it is definitely worth a visit if you like jamaican food!

Wonderful Experience @ Glowbal
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 2:39pm [Dine in]

Went to dinner here this past Saturday and had a great experience at Glowbal.

The food: very creative. My fiance and I shared the appetizer platter which had a great selection of various items on their menu. My absolute favourite thing I had was the crab cakes (I love crab cakes, so I might be impartial).

The service: excellent! Our server (Brett) was really attentive, polite, knowledgeable and courteous! We had only ordered 1 satay item (b/c I wanted to try it but the fiance has had it before). Brett took it upon himself to buy one for us, which was great!

Value: good. I would definitely come here again for the combination of good food, great service and chich atmosphere.

Ambiance: could have been better. The pictures online make it seem a bit more upscale than it was in reality.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something other than your typical Earls/Milestone/CC experience.
