The title says it all - they make the BEST pad thai I've ever had in Metro Vancouver.
I went here for dinner with my husband last night and had a wonderful dinner. We shared their pad thai and cashew chicken. The pad thai with chicken was absolutely, mouth wateringly delicious. The flavour was very complex and had this slow hot heat from the chili powder. You could taste all the spices and the tamarind. The thing I enjoyed the most was the authenticity of the dish and the fact that it wan't a scary brigh orange/reddish colour (like all other Thai or rather "Thai" restaurants in Metro Van).
The cashew chicken dish was also extremely flavourful. The cashews were PERFECTLY toasted and gave a lot of contrast with the other parts of the dish. My only complaint was that they were skimpy on the chicken.
The service was wonderful. Absolutely no complaints here. Our waitress was friendly and kept our glasses full the entire time (I think she visited us at least 5 times just to fill our glasses). My favourite part of the service aspect was that all their chefs are THAI (according to their website)!
The value was good. The pad thai was larger than I thought it would be - but both dishes were a bit skimpy on the meat (but definitely NOT in the flavour department).
Ambiance was a little bit kitschy - but still nice. The one thing I was impressed with in terms of the ambiance was the dish ware used (beautiful white and blue porcelain dishes).
I would DEFINITELY come back here again and will spread the word about their AMAZING pad thai!
My husband and I went here for dinner and were both AMAZED at the HUGE portion sizes and friendly service. We now know where to go when we have the craving for AUTHENTIC Mexican food!
Food: I had the pork burrito and my husband had 4 tacos (some beef and some chicken). The food came extremely quickly (as the restaurant wasn't all that busy) and the burrito was MASSIVE! That thing could have fed 1 hungry man - or 2 women! My husbands hard shell tacos were delicious as well. We both liked how they made their own tacos (rather than using store bought taco shells which are usually stale and disgusting). Their beef was especially delicious - very flavourful and tender.
Service: The service was truly incredible. I believe the man who served us was the owner - and he was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their menu items. We were nicely surprised at the end of our dinner when he gave us each a large piece of Mexican candy.
Value: FANTASTIC! The prices here are significantly lower than other UNauthentic Mexican restaurants in the lower mainland.
Ambiance: The restaurant was very clean and nicely looked after. I enjoyed how the restaurant didn't have a cheesy vibe (as many other Mexican restaurants can have).
The only thing I wish this restaurant had was a LIQUOR license! I would have definitely enjoyed a good beer with our dinner!
I'm always satisfied with the food at Au Wing Kee. I've tried at least 5 items off of their massive menu and find it difficult to say which one is my favourite. Even my extremely picky parents like eating here!
Food:
Delicious! It's a bit on the greasey side - but I don't mind that much. We always order the satay beef noodle when we eat there and there's always a good amount of beef and vegetables.
Service:
Pretty good. Attentive. Fast.
Value:
EXCELLENT! Both the lunch and dinner menu are very good in value. We always have lots of left overs.
Ambiance:
Forgettable. You don't come here for the decor - just the food.
The only thing I would change about this place is the location (I wish they were closer to us).
I've been to Tropika a number of times over the years, but I dont think i will be making another trip to this restaurant for a while. Within 5 mins of sitting down, we were pressured to order our drinks at least 3 times. It was only until I told them we need at least 5 mins to look at the menu that they left us alone. Throughout the dinner it was fine, but as soon as we received our desserts they threw the bill down on the table. For lunch I can expect to receive the bill before you finish your meal, but for dinner it translates into we want you to leave.
Aside from the bad service, the food was good and the portions were a bit smaller from what I remember
My mouth is drooling right now at the thought of the delicious tacos from La Taqueria - Pinche Taco Shop!
My co-workers and I walked about 15 minutes just to try their tacos, waited in line for about 10 minutes to order..and we were ALL unanimous in saying that they have the BEST and MOST DELICIOUS tacos in Vancouver!
I loved the variety of authentic tacos served. I tried their pescado (fish), carnitas (pork - which is what's making my mouth WATER right now), and the frijoles charros con queso (beans) and each taco was equally delicious.
The restsaurant is in a funny location - but the service and delicious food made up for it.
I will never EVER go anywhere else for tacos again.
I've gone to Coast a few times for work lunches and have always had a pleasant time.
The wait staff is extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Their lunch menu has a nice variety of casual and upscale items. So far I've had their lunch special (wrap, soup and salad), fish and chips and kobe beef burger with lobster poutine.
The restaurant is definitely a nice place to take clients or for a fun evening with friends.
I'd highly recommend trying their lobster poutine - absolutely exquisite!
I've been here a few times in the last two years for work events. That is the ONLY reason why I would go to Town Hall.
This place is absolutely forgettable. Their drinks are over priced. Their menu is over priced. There is absolutely no discernable features in this establishment that make me want to return on my own or recommend it to friends.
In addition to being forgettable - it's extremely pretentious.
We've been wanting to try Paul's for awhile since reading these reviews and are SO glad that we did.
We ordered the honey garlic spare ribs (BONELESS, I might add - which is fantastic), szechuan ginger beef and a few spring rolls (or egg rolls as they call them). The spring rolls were completely forgettable - BUT, the two other dishes were delicious and came in extremely generous portions.
We would definitely do take-out again from Paul's :)
After reading the reviews on here, I already had my expectations set pretty low, but it was even worse than i thought it would be.
The atmosphere was horrible. The furniture couldnt be any worse, the floors were all sticky, and they dont do anything to make the place look nice. Out of the dozens of dishes, I only found one or two that were actually decent; I didnt even bother trying the sushi since the sashimi looked weird. The service was slow and they werent polite. I suppose the only good thing about this place is there was no time limit.
p.s. I wouldnt have the ice cream, we saw the same kid have his hands in there a number of times..
All I can say is "WOW" when it comes to this place. I'm naturally a bit skeptical of sushi restaurants in Burnaby because Vancouver restaurants and even Richmond restaurants tend to have better quality sushi. BUT, I was SO wrong! Sushi Oyama delivers on their promise of "generous portions", "fresh ingredients" and "modern and welcoming decor". Honestly, I have nothing negative to say so I will post the highlights of our dining experience.
Food: scrumptious! My fiance and I shared a sushi/sashimi combo, tako yaki, mangodise roll (which you MUST try), filet-o-fish roll and an ebi sunomono. Their sashimi was fairly large and their specialty rolls were HUGE! The mangodise roll (combination of crab, mango and cucumber topped with multiple pieces of ebi and a mayo based sauce) was THE BEST fruit/fusion roll I've EVER had AND it was massive at 8 pieces!
Service: very pleasant and friendly. Our tea cups were never empty.
Value: Outstanding considering all we ordered! Everything came to $25.
Ambiance: I love that the decor is fairly modern but still maintains some elements of the original interior. I also love the fact that the restaurant is in what I can only guess as a very beautiful heritage home.
I reccommend anyone who loves sushi to TRY Sushi Oyama - you won't be disappointed!
I went here with a few colleagues this past summer and really enjoyed this quiet bistro.
I had a caesar salad and a salmon sandwich (cajun salmon sandwich I believe) which was delicious! The caesar salad was DELICIOUS! A bit heavy on the dressing but delicious none-the-less. The sandwich was interesting - very flavourful with a perfectly cooked piece of salmon.
The service was polite and courteous. I appreciated not being bothered every 5 minutes about our lunch (as TOO many restaurants often do these days).
The value was pretty good for lunch. I think I spent around $11 for the sandwich and salad.
The ambiance was nice. The place was fairly quiet and cozy which is nice when many other restaurants have music BLARING in your ears.
I'd definitely go to this place again if I was in the neighbourhood.
Went here this afternoon after reading the reviews and found an interesting little fast food restaurant in the Lansdowne Mall food court.
Surprisingly - there was a big line-up which I didn't expect. The line-up moved pretty quickly as the people who work there are FAST! The service was friendly as well!
The food was pretty fresh and tasty. We had two chicken tacos and their tater tots/mexi fries. The fries were super crispy and not oily at all (which is usually the case w/fast food places). The chicken was flavourful and moist and the vegetables were plentiful and fresh.
If we're in the neighbourhood again we'd definitely hit this place up for some yummy mexican food!
This is by far one of the BEST Greek restaurants we've ever been to in the lower mainland.
My fiance and I had a glass of wine and a pint of beer, calamari to start and we both shared a roast lamb plate and their chicken souvlaki dinner - all for under $50.
Their calamari is lightly battered and very flavourful. The roast lamb was falling off the bone and came in a VERY generous portion. The chicken souvlaki was moist, well seasoned and extremely large in size. The sides were also very generous and delicious (big greek salad and lots of rice).
The service was amazing as well! Their waitresses were attentive, polite and friendly - pretty much everything you'd want from a restaurant.
This place will now be our "go to" place whenever we have a craving for Greek food! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
After moving to Burnaby we tried really hard finding a decent sushi place, but sad to say realized they dont exist in North Burnaby, so we had to travel south to metrotown area.
The service at asakusa is quick and polite, the food is consistent in terms of quality and quantity, and the prices are fair as well. This is definitely the top sushi place in Burnaby, we always go there at least once a week...
after having pizza from Viva Sue's we wont go anywhere else! The pizza is so delicious; They dont cheap out on the quantity or quality of ingredients. They are always really friendly and when they say it will be around 45-60 mins (which is still really good for pizza delivery), it usually only takes just over half an hour. Not much to say about the amibance since we always get delivery, but any pizza lover will not be dissapointed!
We decided to try out a new place on the drive, and from the reviews this place souned pretty good...
The people are friendly there, and are quick to take your order. The food was pretty good, but a little pricy for vietnamese food, we paid $25 for 2 entres, 2 salad rolls and a drink. I've always paid less than that when going to vietnamese restaurants.
Atmosphere was ok and it was clean for a takeout place, but I dont think I would go back there again unless they lower their prices, or increase the quantity.
Food: The food was allright, not bad, but not great.... I found it amusing of how I ordered Homous and it didnt come with Pita. at $6 I assumed it would, and I dont know anyone who ordered homous on their own. For the Homous/PIta it came out to $9, and it wasnt that great...
Service: the server we had wasnt that polite or attentive, and gave off the impression that we were bothering her when we needed anything. Near the end she slow and it took almost 10 minutes for her to bring the bill.
Value: You can get the same quality/quantity from any of the greek places on denman paying half the price, without having to put up with impolite servers... I felt it was ridiculous to pay $9 for homous/pita when it was really tiny.
Ambiance: Good ambiance, especially when they have the belly dancers, but if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner, try to get a table by the end or edge, so you're not in the middle of it all.
Overall I would probably go again if the food was really good, but it wasnt. That in combination of the rude server and slow service, I dont think I will be paying another visit to Kalypso anytime soon.
I went here on a Saturday afternoon with a girl friend for some brunch. I found that they had a large variety of dishes available for brunch - which was great! I had the roasted vegetable frittata with salad and hashbrowns and my friend had their waffle. Both dishes were tasty and delicious! The frittata was just the right size and cooked perfectly. The hash browns were perfectly cooked and had a nice kick to them with some sort of spice. My friend's waffle was also tasty - she normally barely finishes her dish but this time it was clean!
The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.
The value is pretty standard for brunch.
The ambiance was good. We sat in the heated patio and had a view of the Drive.
Overall I'd definitely return for their brunch!
We decided to try this place out since we wanted some sushi, and it wasnt' too far...
The first thing that stood out was the poor service. The girl working at the cashier was rude, impolite, and gave off the impression that we were bothering her. All we ordered was 3-4 rolls, and she told us it would be 20 minutes. While I was waiting I guess it was too much trouble for them to tell us our order was ready, becaues i had to ask them if the one sitting there for 5 minutes was ours...
The food wasnt quite as bad as the service, but not enough to make us go back there again. The rice was hard, the portions were tiny, and for some reason it smelled more fishy than it should have..
I cant say i'm surprised though, there is no decent sushi in north burnaby.. you've got to go south for that...
me and some coworkers decided to check this place out one day since we heard it was reasonably priced and had good food. It was a nice setup how you go in and go straight in line to start picking out your food you want grilled.
When I went up to pay, I wasn't aware that you're supposed to put the sauce on the side (I'm assuming so you dont get charged for the weight of the sauce?), but the cashier was nice enough to remind me whats the general procedure. I said I'll remember next time. I left it at that, but when I gave my dish to the guys at the grill, he was giving me shit about how i'm not supposed to do that, and was almost yelling at me. I told him I made the mistake and the cashier already told me, but he still seemed pretty pissed off. This service left a really bad impression.
Apparently i'm not the only one that feels this way, I know a couple other ppl who have had rude service from the guys at the grill. They should really look at teaching them basic customer service, or hire new people. I dont think I would go back there, I dont really want to be yelled at when I go for lunch.
