Bad, Bad Service
Submitted Monday, August 4, 2014 - 10:09am [Dine in]

Waited more than 10 min. to be approached by server (restaurant not busy!!!). Hubby ordered cup of soup and fish and chips. Entrée came but no soup; .bowl of soup arrived after meal (but was comped). Drinks were not refilled, we were not asked if we wanted dessert (would have) but just presented with bill while I was still eating. This was at 5 pm on a Sunday. To add to the insulting service, although we told hostess we had a reservation they put us down as a no show. Open table honored our reservation but had to contact them and waste my time with it. This is the 2nd time we ate at this location, first time was not much better. My review was sent to Brown's but no response received. Food very good both times...we will most likely eat at Brown's again but not at this location. Beware!!

Olive Garden20080 Langley Bypass, Langley
Exactly why are all these people waiting?
Submitted Tuesday, October 13, 2009 - 10:02pm [Dine in]

Attempted to dine at The Olive Garden in Langley in August 2009 (a Saturday evening). We arrived at 4:45 p.m. and were told there was a 30 to 45 minute wait. My husband took a stroll through the restaurant and to his surprise there were many, many empty tables. We e-mailed Head Office who directed the manager Tammy, to respond to our complaint. She explained it was a staffing shortage, we were not the only people to complain and sent us a gift certificate. Flash forward to October 10/09 (again a Saturday evening) around 5:15 p.m. Another 45 minute wait!!! A quick stroll through the restaurant revealed at least eight empty tables. It appears that Olive Garden uses the illusion of popularity and demand as a marketing ploy. If it looks like everyone is dying to get in, then everyone will want to come. Hardly worth the wait. In Langley you can go across the street to Coza, another Italian restaurant. Same time of day and they are similarly busy but no one is waiting. They actually seat all their tables. Food is slightly better and price comparative. Olive Garden does not appear to appreciate their diners. They expect the wait to be part of the experience. Unless you can manage to force feed yourself dinner at 4:00 p.m., you can expect a wait - empty tables or not!

Dined at Kobe Restaurant October 9/09 - party of 4. We had a reservation for 6:30 p.m. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. A waitress appeared and drink orders were taken. Another waitress appeared (not one of the eight people seated at our table could understand a word she said) and somehow we placed our orders. The chef appeared; he was pleasant enough but very lack lustre compared to the other chefs immediately around us. The food was fresh and very delicious. No second drinks were offered to anyone at the table. No water was offered to anyone at the table. In fact once the chef left we were basically on our own. Lukewarm green tea was served. No dessert was offered and the bills were handed out. Payments were made. (A rough estimate of at least $1000.00 for the table). We were thanked for coming and found ourselves out the door at 7:20 p.m.!!! Not even one hour had passed. Kobe seems to want you in and out as quickly as possible. This is not a leisurely dinner; there will be no second drink and who needs dessert when you have 7:30 reservations to fill. For the money being charged at this restaurant, it is unbelievable that you would be forced out in @ 45 minutes. Vancouver has many fine restaurants that appreciate their diners and welcome their business. We will not be returning to Kobe. If we wanted "fast food" there is always the Golden Arches. Be warned!!!

Great dinner - COLD restaurant
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 8:29pm [Dine in]

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed everything we ordered. My husband's Gnocchi was outstanding! Unfortunately the restaurant was extremely cold. We were initially seated next to the window but asked to be moved due to the unbearably cold temperature. The waiter was very accommodating but the entire restaurant was freezing. Papi's remains one of our favorite restaurants so we will return but probably in the summer. Papi's could also benefit by providing a proper martini list. Difficult to order anything other than wine.

Great food - overcrowded
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 8:23pm [Dine in]

Dined on Friday, December 19/08. Incredibly crowded and busy. Good for Il Giardino, bad for diners. Our reservation was 7:30, we weren't seated until 7:45 and dinner order wasn't taken until 8:30. Food was very slow in arriving to the table although it was excellent once it came. The restaurant was very nicelydecorated for the Christmas season but was clearly overbooked and overcrowded which does not make for an enjoyable evening for diners. I hope to return on an evening when the restaurant is more interested in making it a pleasant dining experience rather than what appeared to be an attempt to crowd in as many diners as possible.
