Chill Winston3 Alexander St., Vancouver
Great Patio, Great Location, someone should open something good up here
Submitted Friday, April 18, 2008 - 1:28pm [Dine in]

3 times I've been to Chill Winston's, first 2 were passable but forgettable, last time was the last time... We arrived at the patio on a Sunday afternoon about 3pm after playing golf... Met 2 girls there totaling 6 of us... It was NOT busy, patio was maybe half full.

First off, the table are tiny, but okay no problem, we'll just use two tables... Then the server comes over an tells us in a very confrontational manner that they do not allow tables to be put together on their patio (no we were NOT blocking server paths), but we pointed out that the patio was half full and we would go elsewhere rather than pretend we didn't know each other and move the tables back the 24" to where they were he said "Fine, I'll let it slide then"...

Our drinks took FOREVER, they were out of several food items, one of note was french fries. How do you run out of potatoes? We had already ordered and by the time he told us they didn't have the girls (who are vegetarians) order we were receiving our food. We explained we would have gone somewhere else and that he should have told us sooner, and he aggressively said "I've already bent the rules for you by allowing you to sit together" (yes 6 of us? not talking 10 or 12 people here). So we asked him to ring us a blank plate, by the time he did we had crossed the st and bought the girls fries at the Irish Heather. We asked the server to charge us for fries anyway and just give us the blank plate to the girls could eat with us and not have to watch us eat. He freaked out made a big scene, and was challenging in a confrontational manner.

Should we have gone and bought fries? No. But we did offer to pay for them even though they didn't supply them, we were making a point about the whole experience and attitude of this terrible server and lack of food. Right off the bat we should have left but we didn't. Our fault.

Look at my reviews, we're quite positive easy going diners... We're not that tough to impress. This place has so much potential, someone should really open something great up here!

Great combo's!
Submitted Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - 9:45pm [Dine in]

I love Saigon on Robson... I east a lot of Vietnamese food... My favorite lunch would have to be Pho...

When I'm downtown and in the mood for good Vietnamese food (not Pho) I go here... I especially love Combo "E" that has spring rolls, brochette, roll dip and Imperial Prawns... The Imperial Prawns are outstanding!

The "cafe sua da" (iced Vietnamese coffee) is excellent, and they also have great tea... The service is usually with a smile, and the food is often prompt... The ambiance is standard, but clean...

Definitely worth a try!

great greek with no lines
Submitted Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - 8:09pm [Dine in]

I've been here a couple of times during the summer...

The lamb was
amazing, the saganaki was as excellent and I've tried the greek
meatballs which were also outstanding. The service has always been
fine...

I find the prices average and fair, this is not exactly upscale,
but a nice place to go for some great greek food...

The atmosphere was standard for a greek restaurant... It is definitely worth a try...

Rivers Reach Pub320 6th St., New Westminster
Best Pub in New West
Submitted Tuesday, April 8, 2008 - 5:28pm [Dine in]

I've eaten and/or drank at the Reach at least 50 times... Out of that 50 I could count on one hand where the service or food was below average... SOME of the servers have a bit of an attitude but most are quite pleasant and provide good service..

They have great specials, $5 wings all day everyday (wings are great too) and a TON of items under $10... The beer selection is fantastic, and even the wine... They have Domaine Du Chaberton (Langley) always featured, the Cuvee Rouge (which bears the Rivers Reach label in the pub) is $20.95/bottle which is an EXCELLENT deal for the wine (sells for $12/bottle at the winery)...

They just updated the menu and made some positive changes... ALWAYS check the specials board as they often have insightful deals on them...

Go to this pub, it is a great pub with a great atmosphere and provides great value...

This is my second attempt at reviewing this place... I may have been to graphic in my previous post so it was removed. I will be more objective this time...

This is located in Tilbury Indutrial park... Quick food/ready made chinese food... Personally, I think this is the last place in the area one should go if hungry...

The ready made food was almost cold when served, and the signs outside advertise Wonton Soup, however when you order it you get what tastes like pre-made canned beef broth with frozen wonton's that are microwaved... Mine were still frozen in the middle once I got them...

I don't know how you can make fried rice taste bad, but this was the worst tasting fried rice I've ever had...

The ambiance is a convenience store that gives you your food at the till where people buy smokes and lottery tickets. It is obviously aimed to serve the warehouse/factory and manual labouring workers of the area, but frankly, across the street you can get better food and the blue collar workers I know and work with expect better food that fills them up...

My 2 item combo plus small wonton and bottle of water was $10 and change... It wasn't even exactly "cheap" as Subway is about the same...

I hope this review makes it through... I'm not your typical negative reviewer, check my other reviews...

Fantastic night out!
Submitted Sunday, March 30, 2008 - 1:42am [Dine in]

8 of us were in the cushion room tonight, and all in all it was a wonderful evening...

The service, the ambiance, the food and even the belly dancer who gave our birthday girl some personal attention was above and beyond...

We all had various meals, including sharing plates for two (kebab) and various other meals... One of the samosa things was a bit cold in the center, and we quietly let the server know and he removed the entire order off the bill at the end of the night! A bit slow getting our reservation ready and first drinks out, otherwise flawless... I really felt they deserved 5/5 in all categories tonight but I figured if we had to be critical of something it would be the slight wait... But the server really was exceptional otherwise...

The experience, and the value were all perfect. None of us had ever been, and all of us plan to return... One thing we noticed was there was no "forced" gratuity for having a party of 8... We tipped much better than 15% and it was nice to not have it pre-added to the bill as so many other restaurants do that end up under-performing on the service side...

Go to this restaurant, bring a dat or a group, you will not be disappointed!

Why the bad reviews?
Submitted Friday, March 28, 2008 - 1:21am [Dine in]

I've eaten both lunch and dinner a total of about 20 times... Never a disappointment!

The calimari is unique and always perfectly cooked...

The pad thai is better than outstanding!

The black pepper scallops are a delight...

Pineapple fried rice, dragon fire chicken, are all excellent!

The shaking beef is one of my favorite dishes ANYWHERE....

The "Flaming Head Samurai" is a very well presented and good tasting drink!

I do wish they still had the old lunch menu where each person chooses 2 dishes, however that option is now gone...

I REALLY don't get why people are giving Red Door bad reviews... It's one of my fav's...

You get MUCH more than you pay for
Submitted Wednesday, March 26, 2008 - 10:37pm [Dine in]

Wow, breakfast and lunch here are a steal! Okay, it's as simple inside as it looks on the outside, but the price reflects only the atmosphere, not the food...

The portions are good, the breakfast is CHEAP and NOT greasy like Young's down the street...

Overall, if you're looking for a great everyday neighbourhood breakfast hangout in New West, this is the place...

Give it a try!

Okay, they impressed us the last time
Submitted Thursday, March 20, 2008 - 10:50am [Dine in]

I also reviewed this Keg on their website and they responded with a gift card... So we gave it another shot... This time I brought my girlfriend and her parents down...

They were busy, but the service was excellent, the wine was re-poured, and they offered some specials etc.

I wasn't happy with the king crab portions being inconsistent or the cut of the prime rib last time... But this time I ordered the Filet Chicago style (charred outside, rare inside) with King crab (not on the menu but as an add on) and they were outstanding...

We asked to sit downstairs as the upstairs bathrooms are horrible (as I emphasized in my other review) but we discovered that the upstairs bathrooms are the only bathrooms... so they really need improvement... They are gross...

So to be fair they were better the second time, but the bathrooms are still in urgent need of renovations...

What a great new find!
Submitted Wednesday, August 8, 2007 - 4:49pm [Dine in]

We stumbled across this pub in search of a late breakfast last Sunday... Thought we were in for the standard pub fare breaky, but we were pleasantly surprised...

The server Michelle was promptly at out table and greeted us with a smile... The drinks were quick and the coffee was great...

The place has been recently renovated, it's quite large, and very inviting...

The menu was more than reasonable, and the variety of brunch selections was outstanding... I went for the benny with spinach, maple smoked bacon, and a pesto hollandaise. I ordered it poached soft and it came just that... It came with both home fries and salad (offered either/or, or both). My friend ordered the "Toby" breakfast which was bacon and eggs, and she opted for the turkey bacon which was offered as one of the many meat selections. The turkey bacon strips were HUGE! By the way, the eggs are free range as well...

The omelet selections were very tempting, I can't wait to try them (they offer each selection as an omelet OR a frittata)

Our coffee never went cold, nor empty for long at all and our food was outstanding... This was a great start to a great day!

The food was more than reasonably priced, I think my benny was under $8, most of the breakfast menu was between $5 and $10, I think even the steak and eggs was $9.99...

I can't wait to go back and try more of this menu as well as the lunch and dinner selections... I live in New West and this place is worth the drive... I will be back and I encourage anyone else to go as well!

Know what to expect...
Submitted Monday, June 4, 2007 - 6:34pm [Dine in]

I agree with some of the comments regarding service, however, mine is always prompt, but they do seem to be a little pretentious... Like they're too good to be there...

But the food is excellent, presentation and flavours work well. Value is good for $$ in my opinion...

The menu is simple and unique... and they have a nice selection of beers and single malts...

It is a cool atmosphere, with a nice patio and I've found the music to be at an appropriate level...

I will go back, I will bring friends, and I think some people are being to hard on this place... I think perhaps some people like the way things were, well, things change... Enjoy it...
