Be ready for an unusual experience

I almost said 'no' when offered to eat here...but I was very happy I kept an open mind.

Service is terrific! Seating is a little awkward but if you have been to cool little 'hole in the wall' places in New York or other large cities you'll love this place. I don't mean it is a hole in the wall I only mean the seating arrangements are not conventional but the food and ambiance is worth eating with a tray in your lap.

Organic ingredients are another reason to love this place!!!

Taco Shack1937 Cornwall Avenue, Vancouver
Good tasty southern cal mex

My partner and I went to Taco Shack again on Saturday to have another fish quesadilla, "our favorite" and don't you know we met the owner Daved Benefield CFL player for the BC Lions.

Daved has been open now for a little over 5 months and as he will readily admit they are still working out the kinks which is to be expected from any new business. The key will be to improve his service and energy level to such a degree that people will consider the Shack a 'destination' joint.

Even if they don't he's still going to have to contend with lines but that's a very good thing. I just hope the lines get long enough that he'll have to open his next Taco Shack in Coal Harbour.

Sit back relax have a mexican pop and a quesadilla and then watch the crowd parade on by Cornwall street.

A small taste of New York in Vancouver

Having moved from New York I was thrilled to happen upon Bin 941. I love the fact that it is such an intimate dining experience.

Love the ambience, which for me has to do with sound, lighting, smell and overall comfort level. Overall a great place to take out-of-towners who are up for something unique.

Rekados Grill4063 Main Street, Vancouver
A step in the right direction
Submitted Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 12:01am [Dine in]

My partner is Filipino so I am well aware of the food service choices which are few and for an American not as appetizing as one is accustomed to but the food at Rekados was very good as was the service.

The night we went it was pretty cold and to warm the place radiant heaters were placed on the floor which in my opinnion was a tad tacky.

Attention to detail is what separates good restaurants from great ones and the fact that the candles on every table are not lit robs diners of the warm glow and romantic mood that only a candle can provide. When they are lit the glow is wonderful. Problem is the wait staff blows out the candle when you've finished dinner. Picky yes but one of the reasons you go out to dinner is to have a special experience and candles can make a dull experience shine.
