I wouldn't bother
Submitted Monday, April 21, 2008 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

The previous review on the Avenue Grill is a bit over the top. I took a friend for a birthday lunch on a Saturday and had an unpleasant experience there. I ordered the prime rib burger off the chalkboard listings. When the waiter brought it out it came with hash browns. I simply said I thought it came with fries. The older waiter snapped "no its brunch". Anyways I told him no problem but after that we were totally ignored by him and the other 2 waitstaff. We were never asked how our food was or offererd a coffee refill for the duration of our meal. We totally felt like we were not wanted. I think the older waiter must be a family member. The young girl that works there has a sour look all the time and it was impossible to get her attention even though she knew we wanted more coffee. Won't bother returning. And their bathrooms desperately need a reno.

I wouldn't rush back; just OK

Went for a late lunch. Many of the menu items are not available at lunch so we decided on the buffet. All the rice dishes were really overcooked. Not sure if was the steam table but I don't care for overcooked rice. There were lots of vats of tasty sauces but I have to admit I missed not have a little chicken or some kind of protein. It seem like all carbs and no protein. The naan was quite rubbery; not sure if it was pre-made and then just reheated. Anyways it was OK; but I was expecting to be blown away based on the previous reviews.

Went on a Fireworks night as had seen all the positive reviews. Ended up with a premade Chicken Shwarma (not prepared I had ordered it) that was so dry; it didn't seem to have any garlic sauce or hot sauce. The chicken portion was really skimpy and I bit into piece of rubbery cartilage which put me right off! Won't be rushing back. I guess they were cashing in on the fireworks crowd.

Good spot for a quick bite downtown

The wait staff is super friendly and eager to please. The food is relatively inexpensive and nice and fresh. Its a great place to grab a quick bite before a film. They glady substitute items in their dishes and do so with a smile!

Went with a group of 6 last Sunday night and had an enjoyable meal. The pizza is really good and you can have can have 2 totally different toppings on each half of your pizza which I liked. Its expensive but its all organic and the salad, soups and pasta all looked really good. I think I would opt for lunch next time as they seem to have some really good combos available for a reasonable price. Keep up the good work!

I went with a friend about 4 months ago and we didn't have the friendliest of service. The older lady working the floor acted like we had just arrived from outer space; she seemed impatient and was a bit snappy. The food itself was hardly to die for. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and ended up with a veal cutlet. I didn't mind as I like both but it came with just a smidgeon of sauce and I wasn't sure if the mashed potatoes were instant or not. Anyways, it was interesting to check it out but I wasn't that impresed.

Took a friend for his birthday dinner. The food was fine but the lamb korma and the butter chicken each had maybe about 2 ounces of meat and was mostly sauce. The meat portion was really scimpy. Service was a bit remote but OK. They serve pretty good food otherwise; good naan.

Their take-out curry sauces have MSG-type additives
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 10:25am [Dine in]

Went there for dinner on a Saturday night. I find their Thai food to be quite average. They sell their Thai curry sauces for home use in gift packages as well as individually. I purchased one to try out and found it to be laced with an MSG type additive. After eating it at home, I was really dehyrdrated and it had an unpleasant after effect. I would never eat the take out sauce again.

Can't say I enjoyed it.

Went with a friend on a Sunday afternoon, just after the lunch rush. We got our menus and had to wait about 25 minutes for our order to be taken. We were the only Causasians in the restaurant and felt ignored. They give you a large portion but it is not very good quality. The Malaysian fried rice just tasted like your standard fried rice; no evidence of any spice. The sauce for the black bean chicken was very bland and heavy and the fried noodles were quite oily. The chicken in this dish was not very pleasant; not a nice cut of chicken and barely cooked. Maybe if you are in the know there are probably some better dishes to order.
