I can't recommend this place enough. Was pleasantly surprised as to how authentic the dishes tasted. Pasta and steak are highly recommended. THis place can compete with much higher priced fare in Vancouver. Fantastic decor and great selection on the menu. Some would argue it is priced highly, but given the outcome, I was happy with all of my dishes.
I am curious to see what more people think of this place. One of my fave places to eat.
I don't know what to say here. THe location looked promising, but the meals were sub-par. I was surprised by the flavorful Butter Chicken as I thought it was a tad watery, but the taste was exceptional. The other dishes including the worst steak in the city made me want to run out of here. THis place would be more suitable for a Howard Johnsons that the Fairmont Hotel. Service was so so, but managment apologized for the crapy steak. A table next to us ordered the steak, and they weren't pleased either.
We had the Tuna appetizer and that was great. I think this restaurant is a suitable place for cruise ship passengers looking to eat something besides a buffet dinner. I simply can't recommend this place. Also noticed that the dishes had an almost paint numbers style to it. Maybe its because the cooks look like they were hired from Earls.
Considered on the exotic end for some of the asian food spectrum, I thought Tropika was nothing really worth writing home about. They had a solid Cran entree, the rest of my food was standard Malay fare.
We ordered 5 entrees, I found most dishes a little oily.... some reminding me of cheaper asain takeout. If it wasn't for one of the best crab dishes in the city I would have dumped on this place.
Ok Service, Ok food, Ok ambience. Try the crab.
If this place were priced much lower, this reveiw would have been a tad different. I can't help but think how ripped off I felt. Hearing about this place so much over the years made me realize within the first taste, that it was a typical Vancouver hype job.
For someone as imaginative as this chef, I can't help but think I was served fare that would be available at most sushi places, even a food court or two. If I wanted a rainbow roll, I would have gone to Metrotown.
Only plus for this place is the quality of ingredients, however, poor service, mediocre dishes, and an atmosphere that reminded me of sitting in a carpet warehouse, makes this review a negative one.
Save your cash, impress your clients elsewhere, or make sure the person you're taking along has never tried sushi before, otherwise you're in for disappointment.
