Big Ridge Brewing Co.5580 152nd Street, Surrey
Regular at the Big Ridge considering other alternatives
Submitted Friday, December 10, 2010 - 10:15pm [Dine in]

I have been a regular at the Big Ridge for the last 5 years and have enjoyed the ambiance and food at both the old (across the street) and new locations. With the transition from the old location to the new location, I was looking forward to the new look with the same old great menu and beer.

However, to my surprise, the menu has changed and has reflected much higher prices both on their food and drinks. I was highly disappointed in the increase in pricing, however, as a person involved in the business community, I would understand that the upgrade in both location and atmosphere came at a cost of higher food prices.

Don't get me wrong, both the food and beer at the BR is still considered outstanding, however, I feel that the restaurant gouges their patrons when it comes to substitutions. An example would be ordering any entree from their wok menu, it would come with the dish and a side of rice, should you decide to make a substitution for the rice to either noodles or extra vegetables instead, you are charge with a $3.00 substitution fee, which I feel is excessive.

Overall, the food, drinks, staff and atmosphere at the BR is great and I normally wouldn't hesitate to go there, however, with the area expanding and more and more selection of other restaurants begin to emerge, I may start to explore other options that would give better overall value as loyalty can reach a point in the pocket book.

Frasers Bistro and Lounge16033 108 Avenue, #408, Surrey
Solid Meal in Fraser Heights
Submitted Friday, December 10, 2010 - 10:01pm [Dine in]

Recently visited the Fraser Bistro and Lounge in Fraser Heights and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. This little bistro tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood in North Surrey serves up home cooked meals as well as standard pub fair that is presented with elegance.

Food: The food that was offered has a home cooked look and taste. The selection on the menu is not as large as I would have wanted, however, the quality that is placed with each entree makes up for the lack of selection.

Service: The service was average but I would consider it good for the amount of tables that our server had to wait on. However, it was a busy Friday night with a few Christmas parties to contend with.

Value: Overall value was good as both quantity and quality of food fell above my expectations.

Ambiance: Ambiance of the restaurant could be improved on as the decor and styling is a mix of a bistro / cafe of today, mixed with splashes of the 1990s.

Overall, the Fraser Bistro and Lounge provided to be a solid place to eat and I will likely go back from time to time.

Beefy Beef Noodle House4063 Main Street, Vancouver
Good Food & Great Value
Submitted Sunday, September 6, 2009 - 12:33pm [Dine in]

I had the time to stop by the Beefy Beefy Noddle House a few days ago with several friends after a day of furniture shopping in the area. Don't let the name throw you off, as the first time we saw it we all had a good laugh and weren't really expecting very much from the name. The restaurant is located near Main and King Edward and is the former location of the Filipino restaurant, Rekados.

Upon first stepping in the restaurant, this would not be any other Taiwanese beef noodle house as the abiance and decore are top notch due to the leasehold improvements left behind Rekados. The prices on the menu do not reflect the decor in the dinning area as most noodle houses are considered to be a hole in the wall.

The food that was ordered came out fast and hot and I was impressed by the quality of the noodles as it was soft and chewy at the same time. The broth was flavour full but not too salty and their drinks were large and not too sweet.

If you're in the area and looking for a quick meal with good value and would like a change in pace as compared to the other restaurant that the neighbourhood has to offer, then I would suggest Beefy Beef Noddle House without a hesitation and don't link the quality of their food to their name before eating there as I did, as there is no Beefy Beefy noddle bowl in the menu.

Sushi House3779 Sexsmith Rd, #2182, Richmond
Good Food and Good Value... but changing...
Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 6:24pm [Dine in]

Sushi House was a staple Japanese restaurant from its original location in Highgate area in Burnaby. Upon the change in location and potentially ownership, it appears that the quality of the food has remained quite good, but the portions sizes have been decreasing. It could be a sign of the times, in order to maintain their lower prices in order to be competative, the portion sizes on their sashimi and raw sushi have been reduced compared to years past. Overall, Sushi House is a solid place to go for a quick bite to eat or a family dinner out. One will always have a good consistent meal with good value.

Crave3941 Main St., Vancouver
Good Comfort Food, Poor Service
Submitted Sunday, May 24, 2009 - 1:15am [Dine in]

I've been to Crave several times over the last year or so and the attraction of their Brunch menu seems to get me back in the restaurant time and time again. Although their menu is short and to the point, there is enough of a variety to keep most customers happy.

The food at Crave is pretty solid from their salads to their variety of Eggs Benedict. However, you will surely be disappointed in their service (no fault of the staff) as it appears that they are always under staffed. It always seems like a long wait for your food to arrive and a server is never around if you need something.

Overall, Crave is a good staple, if you don't mind the wait as their food quality is consistent and good attitude from the servers, if you can find one.

Little Ongpin4093 No. 5 Road, Richmond
Decent Service, Poor Food
Submitted Sunday, May 24, 2009 - 1:07am [Dine in]

Upon trying Little Ongpin based on the recommendation of family members, my friends and I were surely disappointed with our meal. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was decent, but it very much had a cafeteria feel to it. The service was warm and friendly. The food on the other hand was quite disappointing, as most of the food that were ordered was served luke-warm at best, especially the kare-kare stew that we ordered which tasted like it has been sitting out for quite some time before it was served to our table. The meal resulted in food poisoning for all the members of our party the next day, which most likely came from the poor food safe practice of the kitchen staff. Based on our experience, we will probably not return to Little Ongpin.
