Like taking a mini Caribbean holiday
Submitted Sunday, October 17, 2010 - 1:36pm [Dine in]

My partner and I had our first dinner at the Reef on the drive last night and were pleasantly suprised. We had a reservation and were greated and seated immediately. We liked the vibe and the service could not have been more pleasant. The complimentary hot bread was good enough to break a diet for, and the fried plantain slices were tasty if filling. There was lots on the menu that appealed to me but I can never resist ribs... they were nice. A half rack and spicy. The accompaniments( mashed potatoes and a light coleslaw) were delicious too. My partner had the October special, which was a mixed Carribbean curry, and he enjoyed it. When the bill came- the appy, two entres, and two beers cost us $52. A bargain for an exotic and tasty little meal.

A Very Tasty Saturday Night Dinner
Submitted Sunday, October 10, 2010 - 4:30pm [Dine in]

Last night was our fourth dinner at Mumbai Masala and it has never dissapointed us. We've been a couple of times with a non meat-eating buddy who eats fish, and there is lots of lovely dishes to choose from. A few times we've asked the server for recommendations for his favorite vegetable or prawn dishes- and his suggestions have been great. Last night's chicken tika was moist and lovely, and the prawns in coconut milk were succulent. The rice dish, I think that it was called special punjabi rice pulao, was full of nuts and fruit and was a real star. Our bill for three was $80., and that included 3 beers and leftovers to feed two for lunch. I don't think you can expect to get quality food for less than that. I highly recommend this spot.

Some great dishes with an extremely rude host.

I ate there twice this past weekend, while at Tinsel Town to watch films. Great value for many of my favorite Asian dishes. The Friday night dinner was tasty and great value. The appetizer spareribs and appetizer gai lan were both delicious. The young people that served the food were pleasant and the wait times were acceptable. The place is noisy in an upbeat way. On Sunday the food was mostly good. I found the wonton soup inedibly fishy- but that is possibly just my western palate. The sweet corn with minced chicken soup was great and my vegetarian buddy enjoyed her mushroom soup. The big suprize came when we were given our several dollars in loons and toons change. As I scooped the change into my hand the gent (host/manager?) said, "No no- tip not included"... and he was almost shouting. I did not put money back on the tray because I was taken aback at the overt demand for me to leave the money on the tray. He came back to the table to grab the bill tray and when he picked it up and saw that it was empty he said, " My God" and shook his head. The thing is- I always tip. And I did tip. Because I think that servers do need their income supplemented. And the servers themselves were pleasant enough. The gent who handled the cash, however, was arguably the most out of line manager I've run into.
