Was here last Friday night to celebrate a birthday as we didn't want to go to another chain restaurant. From the outside, the building looked like a small town city hall, and as we entered climbing up the stairs under the fluorescent lights, we were contemplating turning around. Happy we didn't though. Found the dining room at the end of the hall and although the decor certainly wasn't contemporary, everything was clean and looked appropriate to celebrate a special occassion.
Service was prompt, professional and courteous with a smile.
Menu focussed on local ingredients and was creative. Similar to what would be expected downtown, but surprising for this area! Wine list was very good with a good emphasis on BC Wines.
We were brought an amuse bouche to start - this gorgeous smooth celery root bisque served in an espresso cup. Absolutely divine. For starters we had the crab cakes and the roasted scallops which we both found to be very tasty and cooked just right. We both had the prime rib with the yorkshire pudding. The meat was perfectly done (med rare for me and medium for him), and tender. The pudding was a little drier then usual, however gravy fixed it. Came also with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, carrot and cherry tomatoes.
We were too full for dessert, however a complementary slice of chocolate cake was brought out to celebrate the birthday. When the reservation was booked, a birthday was never mentioned, however the waitress was paying attention to the comment that was made when the orders where placed!
Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
