Never returning
Submitted Friday, November 14, 2008 - 11:11pm [Dine in]

Was a loyal customer for almost 2 years, mostly due to proximity. Sushi was decent and it was always quick.

Will not return b/c about a month ago, placed an order the night before (at 7:30) for pickup the following morning. They open at 11am so the girl that was taking the order said they would need some time to prepare the order so would it be possible to pick it up at 11:20. I agreed. The order was for a party tray along with 6 more rolls.
I arrived just after 11:20 and the girl told me the chef still had not arrived. Just as I was cxc my order and leaving, the chef arrived and they asked me to wait for 10 mins. I waited, however as I was waiting, I was wondering how it was possible the sushi rice was fresh since he clearly didn't make it that day. Was also pondering the quality/freshness of the other ingredients.

I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and also see if they planned to give anything to make up for the fact that the chef was late to work thereby making me wait and late. Nothing. Instead I was lectured on the fact that they are the cheapest in the area and I was dared to find someone cheaper.

I would rather pay for quality and good service then someone who prides themselves on being cheap.
Will never return.

didn't get what I ordered
Submitted Friday, November 14, 2008 - 11:01pm [Dine in]

Ordered a chopped scallop roll and spicy salmon roll to go. Girls that took the order were friendly - seemed like one of them was being trained.
While waiting for the order, I noticed one of the girls lean over to the sushi chef and say that that doesn't look like a spicy salmon roll. He muttered something that only she could hear. I didn't realize it was my order he was working on as there were a few ppl waiting.
Once I got home, I realized that the chef decided to make me a smoked salmon roll instead. Not impressed as that is not what I ordered and he clearly didn't seem to care since the girl who took the order had mentioned something.
Will not be returning.

Pajo's Fish & Chips3500 Bayview Street, Richmond
good fish n chips
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 3:19pm [Dine in]

Was here in Sept and decided to try out the fish to see how it compared to the restaurants on the wharf.

Service was efficient and they did their best to keep the seating area clean, however it was constantly busy.

Felt the batter was nice and crisp and not greasy, and although the quality was better (in our opinion) then the restaurants, my other half was missing beer. As he said, on a nice summer day, he likes a good cold beer with his fish n chips.

Would definitely return.

Great service

Was here for a weekend lunch about a month ago and received excellent service. There was 5 of us, and we ordered a variety of things from salad, pizza, pasta to the daily special. Food was tasty and arrived in a reasonable time frame. Canelloni wasn't top notch, however the dessert made up for it.
We had the torta milano which is a milk and dark chocolate mascarpone mousse. Amazing! There was a special...passion fruit tart of some kind. Tasty, but wasn't on the same level as the mousse.

Great spot for having a drink on the patio in the summer, great place to bring out of towners, and would definitely come for a special occassion.

great pho
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

Was just here the other night and the service was solid. Not outstanding, and super friendly, but as we were a group of 7, she offered to do separate bills without us asking.

I've been to quite a few pho restaurants, but quality of ingredients, this is the best I've encountered so far. A small is $5 and change.
They have eye of round and it was super tender. Bean sprouts seemed fresh and wasn't all limp looking as at some other pho houses. Basil was bright green and crisp without a whole lot of bruising. Tasty broth.

Looking forward to being a regular!

So good!
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 3:00pm [Dine in]

Wish we had found this place sooner! It's definitely a place for take out although they do have a few tables where you can eat in should you choose to. It's in Crystal Mall, with the storefront facing Kingsway.

The donairs were amazing! And the garlic sauce...in love with the stuff! When ordering, you're asked if you want it medium or hot (not realizing that you could choose mild) so we choose medium as we tend to like a really good kick to our food. Let's just say we could really feel the heat and wished we had ordered the mild just so we could taste everything else.

Wish we didn't live so far away from Abdul's now cuz as I'm writing this, I'm thinking about that donair and my mouth is watering!

Unique rolls
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 2:55pm [Dine in]

Have only ordered take out so wouldn't know about the service or ambiance although it does seem small.

Have had their tomoya roll, burnaby roll and flying dragon roll. All very tasty, however for the price, smaller then expected. Wasn't expecting massive rolls, however, when paying anywhere from $7-9/roll, expected them to be a bit larger then the average cali roll.

Alaska roll
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 2:52pm [Dine in]

I generally just ordered take out from here when I lived in the area as I couldn't be bothered to join the massive line up and the service left a little to be desired.

Best part of Sushi Garden and the only reason I ordered from here was the Alaska roll because of the sauce that is on top. Makes it different from all the other alaska rolls out there which is generally a cali roll with salmon.

Surprisingly good
Submitted Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 2:49pm [Dine in]

Was here last Friday night to celebrate a birthday as we didn't want to go to another chain restaurant. From the outside, the building looked like a small town city hall, and as we entered climbing up the stairs under the fluorescent lights, we were contemplating turning around. Happy we didn't though. Found the dining room at the end of the hall and although the decor certainly wasn't contemporary, everything was clean and looked appropriate to celebrate a special occassion.

Service was prompt, professional and courteous with a smile.

Menu focussed on local ingredients and was creative. Similar to what would be expected downtown, but surprising for this area! Wine list was very good with a good emphasis on BC Wines.

We were brought an amuse bouche to start - this gorgeous smooth celery root bisque served in an espresso cup. Absolutely divine. For starters we had the crab cakes and the roasted scallops which we both found to be very tasty and cooked just right. We both had the prime rib with the yorkshire pudding. The meat was perfectly done (med rare for me and medium for him), and tender. The pudding was a little drier then usual, however gravy fixed it. Came also with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, carrot and cherry tomatoes.

We were too full for dessert, however a complementary slice of chocolate cake was brought out to celebrate the birthday. When the reservation was booked, a birthday was never mentioned, however the waitress was paying attention to the comment that was made when the orders where placed!

Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
