This place gets it right everytime. We have been going there for years and they definately stick to the saying of do one thing and do it well. They always give you an extra piece of fish when you order for free which I think they have done for years. The interior looks exactly how it should and it is reasonable clean. Its smiles all around when you walk thru the door which always makes you feel good. If you want the best fish and chips in White Rock this is the place to go.
These restaurants are owned by the same company and while they are very different one thing is common in both. Quality, value and attention to detail. We had their new Summer tasting menu and it was some of the best food we have ever had. The albacore tuna was out of this world. Our server was very knowedgable and seemed to have the perfect balance of attentiveness without being obtrusive. We found the prices to be on par with or maybe even less than the Boathouse so it was very reasonable. Our server told us they do brunch on Saturday and Sunday's now so we plan to go check that out next weekend. This place is a must if you are in White Rock.
We had a great time even though we were seated right by the kitchen. Most times you would think of this being a bad thing but not at this place. The Chef was inspecting all the food that came out of the kitchen and you could tell he was having a lot of fun while he was doing it. The staff as a whole seemed to have this balance of professional looseness. The Seafood Tower is a must and the rolls are really good and served in a very creative way. We found the sashimi to be over priced however. As other reviewers have mentioned from the moment you walk in you think it is going to be expensive but it is not. Well worth the trip!
We never dine in as we do not find the atmosphere more enjoyable than our own home. The food however we have found to be very consistent and creative. Must trys are the Washington roll and the Dragon roll. Always freindly with pick up orders and most importantly they are ready when they say they are going to be. Will continue to support.
Absolutely an incredible evening. This lively upbeat steakhouse is a nice change from those old dated stuffy bright fine dining restaurants where you can here a pin drop. If thats what you like then this is not the place for you. We love going out for dinner to places where we can interact with the staff and have some fun. Now for the important stuff... The food was amazing! We tried the 8oz sirloin with dijon compound butter, 16oz bone in rib steak, gorgonzola mac & cheese, and yam gratan. The steaks were easily the best we have ever had. SOOO TENDER. I would say even better than Gotham. Our server Katrina was memorable and that is saying something. She was there when we needed and not when we didn't. Not easy to do. What surprised us the most was the prices. Well below Gotham and quite similar to the Keg. Thank you Onyx and thank you chef for the complimentary onion ring. It was the best I have ever had.
