Great dinner here last week. Dinner was will-sized for our appetites that night. Do NOT expect those ridiculous and disgusting portions you get at those certain Italian restaurants. Fresh pastas, rich flavours, much better. The mushroom pizza was the best thing we ate. The carpaccio strangely disappointing as it lacked the rustic bite and salt component from the capers, which didnt live up to their crispy billing. Having recently won the award for best desserts we gave two of them a go. The brulee was a bit disappointing, but the tiramisu was fabulous!
Service was as it should be, very competent and appropriately attentive. Value may not be there for some but quality costs money and having left with paying well under $100 per person for such a restaurant is OK by me.
Great lunch experience here this week. The food was excellent almost across the board (the goat not being as tender as I would like it to be, but then that may just be goat texture), and the mutton kebabs are not to be missed. There's good value here as well and from looking around at pleasant faces, i'm not alone in these opinions.
Ambience a bit more suited to women with it being light and airy, and the BF doesn't love the kindergarten furniture (his term) the room is filled with, but I guess it keep people from getting too comfortable as lines can be long.
Service on point with quality checks, water topups, confident recommendations, solid wine list.
I'll definitely be going back over and over. Must also add that some food, ingredient or spice at both Rangoli and Vij's has a tendency to set my stomach off, and I know I'm not alone with this. Certainly not a quality issue, but likely rather to do with the fact that the meals are quite rich. Meh, whats a little Delhi belly when the food's tasty, right?
Stopped in for lunch on 4th today to find more Whole Foods renos. New deli area, layout changes, new food, crazy... kept many of the Caper's classics fortunately, but some of my favourite soups, vegetable options etc were replaced by breakfast items. Not sure how I feel about that but the transition seems to be going smoothly, the room was very clean.
Food wise, some things remain super strong, such as the bakery and certain prepared foods such as dips, salads, etc. Others were a bit of a miss and tasted dry or ill-conceived (avoid the falafel). I would have expected a corporate entity such as this to have a suggestion or feedback box, particularly when undergoing such changes, but nothing doing. Regardless, service is good, parking is free, and food is mandated to be natural and wholesome, which is wonderful.
Hit Hapa last night after talking about it for years, literally, with the BF. Super fun time, relaxed atmosphere but exciting because of the style of the room and anticipation of new yummy food. Food lived up to our hopes (would give it 3.5 stars if I could) although we did have to eat quite a lot to get full as there isnt much in the way of starches on the menu. Nifty way of racking up the bill I suppose, but also dropping its value score.
Service was good, nothing crazy. Certainly friendly enough even if the odd detail was missed. Will go back, and hopefully with more people as it seems like that kind of place, good for sharing etc.
Great brunch at Abigail's Party this morning. The huevos rancheros had been recommended to me by a friend and lived up to expectations. My boyfriend doesn't really do brunch much and went with the shortrib hash which he loved. Service was ok, but we weren'y in a rush and the room was quite busy. Anyway the music was good and anyplace with organic eggs is ok by me. Will definitely be back.
Generally good sushi, although i'm not sure what all the fuss was about. The rice around the maki was excellent. Perfectly cooked, not too thick, still ever so slightly warm. Miso soup was average. Salmon was pretty yuk but then I'm not a big salmon fan. Service was friendly but not particularly attentive. $60 for a decent sized lunch w/o booze including tax and tip, so not exactly cheap. Will definitely go back to try the non-sushi house specialties.
