Common, The9910 109 Street, Edmonton
Good for a night out
Submitted Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 8:19pm [Dine in]

Call me old fashioned, but I’ve been to The Common mostly for lunch. I went this time for dinner with the SO and wasn’t displeased. As you can imagine, I was a little apprehensive to begin due to the fact that this place is considered trendy and hip.

And yes, the scene was mainly young people but they kept to themselves and were well-behaved. On this visit, we didn’t eat much, just shared a couple of appetizers and cocktails. I would recommend a couple of things on their menu though, such as the pork belly wraps, truffle popcorn and poutine. If I lived closer, I'd frequent it more often.

Curry Corner616 Riverbend Square, Edmonton
My Favorite Indian Restaurant in the City
Submitted Friday, August 8, 2014 - 4:08pm [Dine in]

Curry Corner is probably the best Indian restaurant in Edmonton. I have been to most of the Indian restaurants in Edmonton but none of them compare to the quality of food and service.

I am not much into seafood but their shrimp butter masala is delicious. Their butter chicken is quite good as well, despite the ratio of sauce to chicken. The quality of the ingredients and freshness of the food is what makes this place stand out. When I am too lazy to drive, I order take-out from them and still get the same level of good as if I were to dine in.

Cafe Del Sol6502 132 Ave NW, Edmonton
Don't let the location fool you
Submitted Thursday, August 7, 2014 - 9:38am [Dine in]

Why has no one reviewed this place before?

Cafe Del Sol is one of the rare and few authentically Mexican food places in Edmonton. Don’t let the fact that it is in a small strip mall fool you. It is usually full, and you'll find lots of local Mexican families eating there. There is a significant wait before one gets one's food, but the chips and salsa appease the waiting. The stuffed potato skins here are delicious, but the best are the tacos. My personal favorite is the carnitas. I usually go for two because the pork is so good.

Must try Donairs
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2014 - 9:56am [Dine in]

Dining at Donair’s is always a pleasant experience. You eat like a king here. Just like the name suggests, they serve donairs here. I am yet to find another place that has better, meatier, jucier donairs. The beef donair is my favorite, but if you are not into that, they also have other things to serve, like burgers and pizza. It can sound a bit like a turn off, but the pizzas are actually quite tasty and fresh (they are made at the restaurant). The beef pepperoni and mushroom pizza is great.

Handi4432 Dunbar Street, Vancouver
Great Indian restaurant in Vancouver
Submitted Monday, July 14, 2014 - 3:16pm [Dine in]

It was a pleasant experience dining at this Indian restaurant in Vancouver. Usually, the level of competition between these types of restaurants is quite high given the number of alternatives there are out there. Handi however, stood out for its food and service.

I had the tandoori chicken with rice, but also tried a bit of their naan on the waiter’s insistence. I am more of a rice person, but I must say, it was pretty good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The dessert was also great; the mango cheese cake was simply delicious.

As for the service, it was excellent. The waiter was extremely polite and went out of his way to accommodate us. My daughter is a picky eater and can be difficult to please. This, however, didn't stop the staff from preparing special food for her. I was very happy with the attention they gave to us and so was she. If I am ever in Vancouver, I will come back.

54th Ave Cafe Restaurant7088 Kerr Street, Vancouver
Old food, bad service
Submitted Monday, July 14, 2014 - 1:34pm [Dine in]

Vancouver is known for its Chinese or Asian food so I decided to check this place out. For a Hong Kong style café, I was very disappointed. The food and service was subpar.

I wanted some noodles so I went ahead and ordered the Singapore fried noodles. Bad choice. The noodles were kind of soggy and tasted sour. When I asked about getting a newer, fresher plate of noodles, they never came. Also, my waitress continuously ignored my requests for extra chopsticks. I actually had to ask another waitress for chopsticks.

I wish I would’ve read the reviews a little bit earlier though.

Marble Slab Creamery1919 98 Street, Edmonton
Pricey ice-cream
Submitted Friday, June 27, 2014 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

I wonder why no-one has reviewed this place before.

Marble Slab Creamery is an ice cream and dessert place. The ice cream served here is alright, but a little over-priced in my opinion. I mean, the bowl that the ice cream comes in are pretty small! The only good thing is that the choices you have are endless. You have full control of how you want your ice-cream to be. You can choose everything, from what flavours your ice cream will have to the toppings. And the employee will make it right in front of you. You'll never get bored here. Besides ice-cream, they have good cakes here. I usually get cakes for special occasions from here, as they are made consistently good.

Glenora Bistro10139 124 Street, Edmonton
Simple breakfast
Submitted Friday, June 27, 2014 - 3:35pm [Dine in]

Glenora has its own charm; it is located in the bottom floor of a bed and breakfast. As you can imagine, it has very simple yet inviting interiors.

What I like about this place is that you can get no-nonsense (or unpretentious breakfast) here. I usually show up for brunch and get the eggs benedict, french toast or scambled eggs. The bison burger is as good as it gets. Breakfast items are available up until 2pm, which is a plus. The service is also great, the servers are really nice people and do their job well: they are quite fast in bringing you your food and never forget to refill your cup.
