The service was excellent. The place has a good view of granville island but the decor are not great. The food is incredible! I didn't expect it to taste so good!!! Simple, healthy yet so yummy!!! I'll return when I can pay the price.

The best in Vancouver
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 11:50am [Dine in]

I agree with the previous rater. Kintaro Ramen is undeniably the best in Vancouver untill you try the ones in Japan. I always go with Light Soup and Fat meat. They soup tend to be too strong for me so i always go with light, fat meat is a must have, the lean ones are simply no good. The service is okay average. There is not much atmosphere. The whole store have a sort of oily air which is the only downside. Good food overpowers all the other elements for this store.

This is place is serve serve style. The atmosphere is simple, chairs & tables, nothing fancy. The food are fantastic and with a good price! My favorite is the tuna tataki and the BEST tamago sushi you can get in vancouver. The tamago is huge and yummy. I will definitely return for more!!!!

sticky rice rules!
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 11:24am [Dine in]

The atmosphere is lively, the staffs are energetic and friendly. The food is great. The 5 peice zakkushi grill is a good start for firt timers. I love their shabu shabu salad and all the dishes they do with sticky rice. The sticky rice + cheese grill is just so tastey! I like to sit in the bar and watch the chef grill stuff, its just so entertaining and plus they hand your dishes directlly to you so you dont have to wait for the waiters to hand it to you. A place i go again and again to hang out with friends!!!

Entrance welcom didn't leave a good impression. The place was nosiy but with a good atmosphere, nice decors. The food was not as good as i expected but the presentation was beautiful. The service was excellent. We were a party of 8 and they manage to have all of our dishes at the same time with 4 waiters each carrying 2 dishes ( this is what impresses me). The staffs were attentive and welcoming. I'm not going back there for a while.

EBI Chili Mayo
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 2:17am [Dine in]

Atomosphere is lively, the decros are great. I love the Big table they have near the entrance. The staffs are welcoming and informative, although they can be slightly slow when its busy. The food are great with a reasonable price. Ebi chili mayo is a must must eat. Great place! don't forget to check out the special menu.

I love the big artsy atmosphere. The calamari is great, crispy yet tender with its own sauce (which means no dipping). The only problem I have is with the waiter. He slides the cups and the plates on the table to us which gives me a bad impression. The waiter was unwelcoming, unattentive and certainly unprofessional. Not going back there till I miss their calamari.

Go again and again
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 2:08am [Dine in]

First ofall, the food is a big comes in big porportion. I still can't finish a whole plate myself. The caeser salad with shrimp is surprisingly addictive. Favorites are the white sauces. The service are great most of the time, still it depends on the amount of customers. The ambiance is lively but noisy. A place I go again and again. Best thing is, its not pricey!!

The location was great, I love the stairs that leads up to the restaurant. The atmosphere was great and lively. The service was attentive, informative and professional yet casual. The food was great, I absolutely love their goat cheese salad. Downside is the price tag.

Compare to other hyped restuarants, this one is an average. The Ambiance was great. The candles, the decors provides a good mood to the place. The food were good, sometimes amazes me but none very memorable. The dine out menu were terrible, the salab and the lamb were the worst. They both taste awkward to me. The service was good since we were a large group but it could have been better if they weren't so short in staff.

Poor Service
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 1:52am [Dine in]

The food was acceptable. The halibut and seafood main courses were okay but neither wowed me. The service was terrible, they obviously treat students like me with less care. The service was slow. The water and bread took a long time to come. The waiter left us for 15min with the menu, when he finally came, he didn't express apologies. The ambiance was so so and the decor wasn't very memorable. This place got decent food, decent ambiance which a lot of other restuarants have as well. It is by the water, but no view at all.

Energetic
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 1:40am [Dine in]

The staffs are energetic and polite they greet you very "loudly" when you enter and exit. The exit part makes you want to go back again. The ambiance is not that great but still acceptable. The coroquette is my favorite lunch set and the next would be the curry rice. The downside is that the sushi chef uses his handy towel in a unsanitizing way. Once I found out, I never ordered a sushi dish from there again. Overall decent with a reasonable price. I recommend going there for lunch, the Robson Guu is better for dinner.

Share the food
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 1:28am [Dine in]

Guu is all about sharing the food. Most of the dishes comes in small porportions around (4-6) pieces which allows everyone to get a little. My favorite dishes are the croquettes and the fish chin (i forgot the name, but it is located on the menu's right column middle section). Never forget to check out the special menu! Best way to go is to pair the food with japanese beer! The overall service is attentive and polite but the degree depends on their busyness. Ambiance is great, noisy, energetic. Great place to hang out with friends.

Great!
Submitted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 1:11am [Dine in]

Upon entrance, we were greeted, welcomed and thanked for calling to forcast our delay in arrival. The waiter was super helpful to first time comers like us. He recommended dishes like tartar, scallop, the imfamous mussels and their lamb. I loved them all, especially the mussels, they were absolutely delicious (and filling, must need at least 2 people to finish a pot). The staff were well trained and attentive. They frequently come by to ask if you like the dish, add more water, change plates after a dish and small things like that. The restaurant's appearance didn't look too appealing to me but its a different story once you step inside. The ambiance was relaxing with style. The red brick walls give out a warm glow under the dim lights. Overall of Chambar is great, especially the great quality of service in which they give to every customer including students like me.
