The food is terrible
Submitted Saturday, October 13, 2007 - 9:27pm [Dine in]

I guess you don't go to Buck & Ear for food, you go there to watch games on TV and drink with you friends. Because the food is not good at all.

The 10 dollar burger tastes so so. You won't remember how it tastes like and you won't have craving for it in the future. I was still hungry after I had the 10 dollar burger and some fries.

Service was very slow even though the restaurant wasn't even half full during the time I was there.

I won't go back for sure because I can't stand the food. I don't even want to drink there becaue the vibe isn't good.

Richmond Night Market350 Gifford Street, New Westminster
expensive street food
Submitted Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 3:48pm [Dine in]

Street food is supposed to be cheap, NOT at Richmond Night Market. I asked myself "Why bother?!!! Why don't I just go to a restaurant and sit comfortably?"

Food is so so. You can get most of them at Asian food court or supermarket deli, it's cheaper and bigger at food court or deli. Nothing special about the food at Night Market.

Everything is so small, even though each item is few dollars. You have to order a lot of very small items to be full. My friend and I, two people spent 32 dollars to finally get rid of hunger. That's 16 dollars a person. 16 dollars per person for street food with no seats? That's stupid! I almost got an ulcer by standing/walking there and eating at the same time, it's so stressful.

There is no place to sit. There's only a few benches and all taken, of course. You have to stand there while eating your food. Maybe you prefer walking around and eating your food at the same time, that can be challenging because it's crowded.

16 dollars per person, you can sit down in a small restaurant and have a decent dinner in a non stressful way. If you go to Asian food court, you will be too stuffed to move. Wherever you go, you got to sit down and relax and eat like a civil human being.

This is by far the most expensive street food ever. There is no reason to be that expensive. Food is so so and there is no scenery to look at (no ambiance), why so expensive. Besides food, most vendors just sell bunch of souvenirs and plastic junks and ugly apparel items. Nothing to look at. The performance on stage is actually amateur, cheesy, obnoxious and loud, you wish they could just shut up and let you eat in peace.

Another Tourist Trap

The portion is ridiculous small considering the price isn't cheap. The batter is on the thick side, so the fish is actually smaller than it looks because it's wrapped around by thick batter. The ambiance is good because it's always nice to eat outdoor and look at the scenery.

It's mainly for tourists who come all the way down to Steveston and want to get something to eat. The one at Garry Point Park benefits from it's location, there is nothing else around selling food. That's the only store. If you don't bring your picnic basket, you have no choice but buy from Pajo.

Frankly, it's really not worth your money. Bring your picnic food or drive somewhere else to eat then.

Don't bother
Submitted Thursday, August 23, 2007 - 2:52pm [Dine in]

It's inexpensive but it doesn't taste good either. The restaurant is kind of filthy inside. It's not authentic Japanese food, the chefs are Chinese. The food just doesn't taste good.

I find that a lot of Chinese operated Japanese restaurants don't make Japanese food right. It's either sushi rice is warm or there's none or not enough vinegar in rice. They seem to be on the lazy side and skip a lot of important steps of making Japanese food. They make it taste like Chinese food.

I give it 2 only because it's not expensive. I would be pissed if I had to pay more for badly made Japanese food.

You won't have craving for it

Their pizza is so so. It doesn't suck and it's not that great either. The taste is so so, it doesn't bother me, it's edible, I don't have a problem eating it. But I won't have craving for it. It's not something that you must have it again. You just eat it and forget about it. If it's great food, you will have craving for it and you want to keep going back. Nat's pizza is just not that great. I rather spend my money to explore other restaurants, that just tells you how ordinary Nat's pizza is.

The restaurant inside is ugly and uncomfortable. I brought my pizza to the beach. You probably prefer to do so as well. The guy behind the counter was kind of unpleasant to talk to, would it kill him to smile? He looked pissed as if you owed him money. Whatever!

I think their pizza is expensive considering the taste is so so and you don't even feel comfortable sitting in their restaurant. Since you are not paying for excellent taste and comfortable sitting, their pizza really isn't worth that much money they charge you.

small portion and over priced

The place is clean. The food is fresh enough but still not worth the price. They only have a few kinds of fish. It's fresh all right but doesn't taste that special. It doesn't taste that speical to make me want to come back. It's over priced and they give you small portion.

Steveston is full of mediocre restaurants like this to rip off tourists. It's always overpriced so so tasting food with small portion. It's pretty lame. It's like they think tourists are suckers so they don't need to put any effort to give your money worth it. They are very short visioned. How could they expect people to come back? Are they just going to rely on tourists during spring and summer?

The food is ok. It's not special like you will have craving for it and want to have it again and again. Nope! You won't have craving for it but it tastes ok. The portion is good, it absolutely fills you up. Price is fair.

My complain is the waiters' bad service. They are so typical, acting like this is only a temporary job they don't care and they are pursuing a DJ career Whatever!

I don't want to be there again
Submitted Sunday, August 12, 2007 - 8:40pm [Dine in]

I was looking for cart style dim sum. I used to live in the States. Every dim sum place is all about dim sum cart. I like that kind of style, you see that many many carts keep coming and you got to see what the dish looks like before you order.

So I went to Golden Dynasty because they serve in cart style, big mistake. Contrary to US dim sum places, Gold Dynasty only two to three carts on floor at the same time, so pathetic. You can imagine how long it takes for those carts to finally reach your table. Really slow! It's so slow, you will no longer care for dim sum cart style, you just want to have menu order dim sum to end hunger. By the way, I went there during weekdays. It's already painfully slow.

The quality of food is bad, some don't look very appealing. Pudding looks like vomit. The bamboo steamers look worn out. The carpet is dirty. Some chairs are torn. I can't believe they use white plastic bag as table cloth. The material is like cheap garbage bag, it's very uncomfortable. Not to mention their menu is on a DVD box. Why? Did they get DVD box for free from the Rogers next door? Food is either warm or cold, it's definitely not hot.

Overall the dinning experience is really unpleasant. I never want to go back to that hell hole again just for cheap dim sum. Since their food doesn't even taste that great, there is no point sitting there and suffering just for cheap dim sum because dim sum is everywhere in this town.

And if you really want dim sum for cheap, why not just go to Yaoham or a lot of take out stores, they have cheap dim sum, all you need is to take home and reheat. They probably taste better than Gold Dynasty, plus you can sit comfortably at home instead.

I have been to beat up joins for really unique dishes which are so good that you don't even care about the place looks shitty and unclean. Golden Dynasty is NOT one of those joints.

It's a great dim sum place
Submitted Sunday, August 12, 2007 - 8:01pm [Dine in]

I like Kirin a lot actually. Before I went, I read some reviews saying it's expensive. I was expecting to spend a lot but it's not as expensive as they say.

I think it's because the unit price for each dish sounds more expensive than other restaurants, but Kirin gives you really good portion, big portion, so you don't end up ordering a lot of small tiny cheap crappy dishes. You only need to oder a few and they definitely fill you up.

The quality of food is really good, very fresh, some dishes are creative. The ambiance is great. Staffs are friendly enough and they just do their jobs, no egos or attitude. The restaurant is really clean and neat. Your seat is not too close to the table next to you, so you got to have a little bit privacy. You can sit comfortably without any stress.

Usually if you only have two people going for dim sum, two of you end up sitting near the restroom or some entrance or corner, lousy location for sure. At Kirin, two people can still get the table next to the big window and enjoy the view. I really like that.

I had a wonderful time at Kirin. Food was great, I was very relaxed and enjoying the view. It's quite pleasant.

By the way, I only went there during weekdays. no waiting, I don't know if it's still the case during weekend.
