Great food, inexpensive prices
Submitted Friday, August 18, 2006 - 10:22pm [Dine in]

We were greeted by one of the owners. The welcome felt warm and sincere. My husband ordered an Americano which was WONDERFUL with overtones of caramel/ darkened sugar... mmmm... it was the best coffee I've had in awhile (Living on the Drive has a tendancy to make you a coffee snob). We ordered what the guy who made the first entry suggested. When it got there I thought that there was NO WAY that was going to fill both of us up. Wow. Was I wrong! $30 +tip and we were so full! The flavors were subtle and delicious, such a nice change from so many overpowering items at other places. I am really looking forward to going back. Maybe lunch tomorrow? Mmmm...

The sangrias... mmmmmm... the sangrias! The tamales, the... ok, look you just have to go. Try to go on a week night though so I don't have to wait for a table, I usually go on weekends with "the girls". The food is awesome the prices fair and the people are nice too. You might want to take home some of their in house made salsa.

mediocre and overpriced
Submitted Saturday, July 29, 2006 - 9:09am [Dine in]

I've sworn not to go back again and again. Damn it I got dragged there last night by a friend who was having a party there. WHAT was she thinking? I was at a table with 6 other people and asked if anyone had been there before wondering if it was just me. 2 had been and stated they though the food was mediocre to bad and the drinks;better off to get beer than something mixed. I didn't comment on what I thought. The food came, it was just that. mediocre to bad. Admittedly the rice was good, but how do you mess up rice with butter? Oh, and there was a"" cookie that was actually good! The wait staff was poor. Scraping food from one of our cetral tappas plates onto another, taking food from our table and offering it to other tables, yes, after it had been picked through. Our server offered to take our drink order 4 times within the first 6 minutes of walking in the door! I'm NOT exagerating here, she asked once before we sat down! No serving utensils were brought with most of the tapas, leaving us sitting there wondering if we were supposed to use our own cutlery on the central dishes. Then when there were dishes that were supposed to be served as a dish a person instead of shared from the middle, they were placed in the middle. We had no idea which dishes were to be shared and which were to be eaten individually. The server had to "correct" us twice while trying to divy up centrally located foods with, "Oh, no. Each one of you gets one of those!" Hello?! Oh, I could go on and on. Totally not worth the time. Ever. Even if you have to miss a party or a gig to not go! Unless I guess, like last time where my friend got fed up and went up the block and got a piece of pizza by the slice ate it outside and then joined us.There's some good advice!

What a horrible horrible experience!
Submitted Friday, July 28, 2006 - 4:55pm [Dine in]

My husband and I were celebrating and decided to try Marcello's. Having seen the other reviews I really wish I had checked it out on this site first! There was no one else in the restaurant, no really, no one! We waited, the cooks saw us standing there waiting to be seated, and we waited. The waitress finally came out and seated us like it was the hugest inconvenience to her. To be fair she did "slam" down a water for each of us. I was completely shocked. The prices were moderate-high. We reviewed the menu in silence. I don't think either of us knew what to say and we "were" supposed to be celebrating right? So, we waited and waited... get the picture. I finally broke the silence and told him how horrible and terribly unwelcomed I felt. He agreed so we got up and left. I wonder if they ever even noticed? We never did get to try the food and I had to enter a rating so I went with poor. We ended up going to La Rocca where we were welcomed, the food was fabulous and the staff great. I'll never, never go back to Marcello's and I suggest that you save yourselves the time as well! Bon appetite... elsewhere!

Great food in the hood
Submitted Friday, July 28, 2006 - 4:39pm [Dine in]

Mmmmm... eggs with fresh tomato, avacado, pan fried potatoes and home made bread toasted. Lots of locals chatting and giggling with a great cup of froo froo la-la-la coffee... what a great way to start any day! My meal and specialty coffee cost just over $6. I'll be back again and again.

Focus on food not ambiance
Submitted Friday, July 28, 2006 - 4:27pm [Dine in]

I have to disagree with the "overpriced" comment from an earlier review. I have been going to Minato Sushi for about... oh gee... 15yrs now. I keep trying other places, more schmancy and romantic but I keep returning to Minato. While the other places may have better ambiance and presentation, ok, most do, Minato serves really good food at reasonable prices. I highly recommend their Minato roll and their green salad and ... well just check it out!
