Samurai Sushi House5888 Cambie Street, Vancouver
My favourite sushi place!
Submitted Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 3:27am [Dine in]

I'm a frequent visitor of this luckluster hole in the wall, which always searves reasonably priced freshest sushi in Vancouver. Freshness comes from a high volume of customers they serve, and generous chunks of fish and shellfish, as opposed to mainly rice and eggs in most of other places!

Besides sushi, if you do not like fish, they even have beef teriyaky sushi and a wide veriety of meat and vegetarian dishes.

Service is casual, prompt and usually friendly.

I highly recomend Samuray sushi to anyone, as long as you don't mind the humble decor.

Incredible service!

Last Saturday I was invited for the first time to this wonderfull resturant. When we arrived at 8:30pm, I was skeptical I would eat at all, as there were something like 60 guests in our group, and I usually do not eat after 10pm. So I thought it will take a long time to get our food. God, was I ever wrong! We had our deserts served by 9:30 with coffees and teas, and that was for all 60 of us! I have never seen a more efficient and proper service in my life.

The food we had, for starters crab wraped in smoked salmon, wonderful salad with caramelized nuts and meat filled crepes with mushroom sauce. They were not just great tasting, but beutiffully presented as well. For the main I had chosen grilled beef tenderloin and sizable baked lobster tail with rissotto, vegetables and yammy sause and desserts came on platters as an assortment, which I got a chance to try them all, and they were all superb. Other dishes served to my friends were also nicely pesented, and everyone was pleased with their choices. When I asked how much a feast like this would cost, I was flabergasted to find out that all they charged was $30.00 per customer!!!

I definetly will be back and bring over all my friends!

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
They keep line ups on purpose.
Submitted Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 1:55am [Dine in]

Last week we went to Stefo's, one of many times now, and as expected had a great dinner, also have to agree that calamary there were better before than now. But as for other dishes - we always order a bunch of appetizers - they are just as good as always. It is a simple traditional Greek food, with nice portions to eat and take out leftovers, which we donated to a homeless dude hwo asked us for those as soon as we came out of the restaurant.

Service, especially last time, was very friendly, and if food came to table just a bit faster, it could pass for excellent. Also we noticed, and not for the first time, that at Stefo's they keep line up on purpose. When we arrived, there was a group of about 6 people ahead of us, and hostess recorded our names, and in a few minutes we were waiting in the room, where we had to wait for about 10 minutes just to be seated to the table which had been ready right at the time we arrived (we were wondering for who do they keep it, and found out it was for us, lol). But generally it is Stefo's style to let people experience a line-up, and if you have some time to kill, try it out, it may be fun if weather is good!

Afghan Horsemen Restaurant, The1833 Anderson Street, #202, Vancouver
Slow service but decent food.
Submitted Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 12:55am [Dine in]

Recently we were dining at Afgan's Horsemen, because this site rated this restaurant as one of the best in Vancouver. The interestingly decorated room was not bad, and food was decent, also not refined, but not bad. The potato in batter were the best part, but meats were also flavourfull. Even though they use cheepest cuts of meet, and veriety is very limited, we enjoyed kebabs and braised lamb sholder was tender.

As for the service, we found it to be too slow, and they were not busy that evening. The glasses were dirty, and who knows how clean is their kitchen. But we tried not to think about it.

We may go there again one day, but more fot decor that the food, and definately not service.
