Had dinner last night at this new popular restaurant. We were taking friends and really wanted to give them a good time and we were not dissapointed and neither were they.
I realize the restaurant has only been open for a month and some of the previous reviews were negative, but perhaps they have worked out many of the kinks and the staff is feeling a little more confident.
I'm a vegetarian and so rather than have their veggie option, I chose to select several things from the menu that sounded intriguing. I had the tomato basil soup - excellent and service of the soup was nice touch. Then had the Warm Okanagan Goat Cheese Custard w/ Beets & Pistachios - it was one of the best things I've ever had with that I had the Black Beans with ginger/sake and avocado - really different which I like and excellent. The rest of the table raved about the Sable Fish and Rack of Lamb - all top notch. They were however dissapointed that they were out of Short Ribs - apparently very popular. So food was inventive and excellently prepared and presented.
The restaurant and bar was packed, that being said our drinks were a little slow and our server had to be prompted on drink orders...but that was minor. The service of the food was first class and 5 star.
I have to agree with a previous review that over all the hotel staff seem almost afraid that they are saying the wrong thing and seem a little nervous. Including the ones that answered the phone. Not sure if they are just trying to get used to Shangri La's way or what, but they are trying hard and doing there best to give the best service.
I should add that my husband is a chef and so we are spoiled and I get to eat at many excellent places - including home! This restaurant is one of my favorites now and I will be back agiain for dinner and will try drinks in the bar too. Looked fun!

Another Mark James Restaurant (always creative and interesting).
The vedgie pizza and spicy green beans are great. Sundays pizza and beer are 1/2 price, it's a great deal. Nice little pub that's attached to the restaurant. The decor is nicely done inside and out with a good patio in the back with fireplaces and fountain. The only thing I don't like it the huge smokers area. They are off in their own space, but's kind of gross to watch them in their pen smoking away and when the doors open into the pub, the smoke comes wafting in. Otherwise upbeat servers and friendly atmosphere with good food and drink at descent prices.
