Unique ice cream
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 1:43pm [Take-out]

My coworkers and I decided to be adventurous on a sunny afternoon. I had the bacon & dark chocolate ice cream, it was decadent, rich and smoky. The only issue is that it's pricey for the small amount of ice cream you get. It was great to try and there were a lot of unique ice cream flavours but defnitely would not be a regular habit.

Average Ramen Place
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 1:37pm [Dine in]

We decided to try this restaurant on a whim because the place we wanted to try was packed and this was close by. We tried butter & corn ramen, shiyo (I think that's what it was) ramen and tried a mini curry. The bowls of ramen were average in taste but there was a lot of noodle and toppings. The mini curry had a little bit of spice to it but very tasty, our favourite dish in fact. We wouldn't go out of our way to eat at the restaurant but if we were in the neighborhood, it's a solid choice.

Consistent food and great curry!
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 1:22pm [Dine in]

This restaurant is really consistent with their food quality. We ordered curry, sweet & sour pork and a half dozen beef satay. All dishes were solid, great flavors especially the curry. The sweet & sour pork was surprisingly tasty and it was a bonus that it didn't glow neon pink. The beef satay was cooked evenly, so not tough at all and went well with the peanut sauce. The decor is lacking but we were there for the food especially the curry.

Good place for dim sum
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 1:07pm [Dine in]

I took my family out for dim sum on a Sunday morning around 10:30 am. The restaurant was just starting to fill up but luckily we had made reservations. Reservations is extremely important at this restaurant due to its popularity. We ordered shanghai fried thick noodles, xiao long bao, chilli wonton, hot sweet soy milk, shrimp/crab balls and a chinese fried donut. Everything was delicious and came out speedily. The server was also very attentive and would bring extra napkins or refill our teapot quickly. Definitely a good place for shanghai style dim sum.

Wonderful food and atmosphere!
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 12:40pm [Dine in]

The restaurant had an amazing and comfortable atmosphere from the very first step through the doors. The decor created an amazing warm ambiance. We tried the feast menu which was sampling small dishes of almost everything on the menu for $21.00 which was an amazing deal. Between two people, we tried 10 different dishes and the meal also included 2 types of rice, roti, salad, soup etc. The food was so tasty and meats were done perfectly. We were so full by the end, we didn't have room for dessert! The only issue we had was that the music was too loud, but we were sitting right next to the live band. We will definitely return!!

Why did we waste our money here?
Submitted Monday, November 14, 2011 - 12:23pm [Dine in]

We went to Octopus Garden for a Saturday night dinner around 6:30pm. Due to a back log in orders, our server told us that the sushi bar would be delayed, I found this strange considering the restaurant was barely filled with customers. We ordered grilled cod which had good flavour but the portion size was extremely small. Tempura shrimp was sub-par, spicy scallop roll and nigiri sushi were a disaster. The quality of the sushi was horrible, the rice fell apart the moment chopsticks touched it. Basically we have been to all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants that had better quality sushi. The price was totally not worth the quality and amount of food we had. Also the restaurant charged $3.50 for tea, we were ok with paying for tea but the quality of tea was not worth $3.50, we have had better tea at Starbucks/Blenz for cheaper. Since we were waiting so long for the sushi to arrive, we decided against ordering more food and went else where to eat a second dinner.

Sunday Dinner for Two
Submitted Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 8:35pm [Dine in]

We ordered the pad thai and a seafood combo red curry with rice. The pad thai was very good as usual, just enough sweetness and spicyness to it. The seafood curry was a bit disappointing because the seafood came from a frozen package but the curry sauce had the right mix of spices.

Average, you can get the same Chinese food everywhere in Richmond
Submitted Monday, November 22, 2010 - 8:01pm [Dine in]

We had a group of 10 people for dinner to celebrate a family member's birthday. We were seated in the worst location possible, at the first table right in front of the main entrance. Even with the double glass doors, the cold wind still blew directly at our table and we acted like a wind breaker for the rest of the restaurant. It was early in the evening and the restaurant wasn't too full so we requested to change tables as it would be very difficult to have dinner in the frigid conditions. The manager advised us that the other tables were reserved for their regular customers and they were unable to move us. As it was a family member's birthday and we had a large group, it would be impossible to go to a different restaurant, so we spent the rest of dinner wrapped up in our jackets and scarves.

The food was average but because of our location the food became cold very fast. The food was also served in large shallow plates which makes the portion size look larger than it really is.

The only good thing about the restaurant was the recent renovations. If you do want to try the restaurant, make sure you specify you don't want a table by the front door when you make reservations.

Not a great dinner experience
Submitted Monday, November 22, 2010 - 7:45pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I went to Papi's/Mondo eatery for dinner on a Sunday night. We ordered the seafood risotto and pasta dishes of the day. The seafood was not fresh which is quite disappointing considering the restaurant is located in Steveston Village. The risotto and pasta soaked up the strange aftertaste of the not-so-fresh seafood but the food was still edible. The biggest complaint would be the server short changing us when we paid the bill. Although we were only short-changed about $0.81 and we would have left it along with the tip, short changing customers just ruins the restaurant's reputation. The server also expected a 30% tip and showed surprise when we only put down 15% tip, which is quite generous considering substandard service and short-changing us.
