You must do Fresgos at least once

This unique gem in the heart of Whalley is well worth at least one visit. The food is mediocre and the service is nothing more than placing your order at the counter and then going back to get it, but there is a certain charm to this place that is hard to describe.

It is not overly clean, the cutlery should be inspected before you put it in your mouth, and as others have mentioned, the burger patties are actually kind of gross. I would not quite say it's a greasy spoon, but really it is not too far from it. Maybe that is part of the appeal, but I have left Fresgos every time satisfied, full, and with the feeling that I would return again. It is an ideal way to stuff the gut after an afternoon of shopping or what not.

Portions are like others have mentioned ... huge and cheap. If you are still hungry after eating here, then you eat way too much and possibly weigh 400 lbs.

You must try Fresgos at least once and decide for yourself if you like it. Fine dining? - no. Good dining? - not really. Good bang for your buck? - one of the best around! Blue collar patrons with the occasional performance by a wandering wino, and almost always a Harley or 2 in the parking lot, you will either love it or not. I enjoy the occasional visit to a restaurant that offers me an old kitchen chair from the 70s to sit on. Even the salt, pepper, and sugar dispensers are old-school. I have been going there for 15 years and will continue to visit a few times a year - usually around Christmas shopping time when funds are tight and the need for a huge plate of mushrooms is at it's highest.

3 Visits and will make more

I have eaten at The William Tell 3 times. Once in the main dining room, once in the private dining room, and once in the bistro. On each occasion I left very pleased with the food and service. The ambiance is a tad clustered for me in the main dining room and lacking in true intimacy, but then it would not be my choice for an intimate evening either.

The menu selections are what you would expect from this type of restaurant each item ordered was well prepared, tasty and complimentary to the other items. Price was decent and not at all expensive for the type of menus. I have eaten at other fine dining restaurants and paid double for a similar selection.

One visit was for an office Christmas party and we reserved the private dining room. The service was top shelf with coordinated meal presentations and very attentive servers at our beck and call. Definitely what I would expect from this type of fine dining experience. In the main dining area the service was not quite as attentive but still acceptable. I did find the main dining hall a little crowded for my taste and hence why I would not choose it for a private and intimate evening.

I was most impressed with the bistro however, and in my opinion best bang for your buck at the William Tell is hands down the bistro. Overall I enjoy both aspects of the restaurant and will absolutely return and recommend you try it at least once.
