Heard Fray was a great quality place - nice ambiance and nice server, attentive
we each dined for $35 each (bill was $70)
portions are very, very small - the portebello fries were nice, but dont' share not much to go around, the burgers are quite small, served with salad...the worst part .... dessert! nice enough flavour, however, tiny tart - so thin and very, very small, the pound cake was ok flavour - not delicious, mediocre at best, and tiny as well
Will not go back because after dropping $35 each, i am still quite hungry - completely unsatisfied! Is there any good reason to hold back so much on the portion sizes? afterall the burgers are already priced heartily enough to fill your customers bellies.
the beer was well priced and cold...the food took a long time to come out; which is interesting and not at all consistent with a burger joint?
$20 coq au vin - 2 pieces of chicken thigh - not really HOT in the middle, spatzle was nice - and sauce was OK, but not the rich, rich, sauce that comes with a long simmer for coq au vin.
garlic prawns - $12 for 4 prawns a nice sauce, and 2 inch thinly sliced piece of baguette (not enough to get all the sauce) these are also the cheap frozen prawns that taste watery - not the nice prawns that are local and sweet and meaty - ridiculous!
throw in a couple of glasses of wine and this meal cost over $40 each per person (no dessert) - upon reaching home, I made a sandwhich.
this restaurant has nice decor and ambiance, I would love to frequent a french bistro in the neighbourhood - but I would have needed 2 plates to satisfy me - not a large person, and will not go there again cause I would have to order 2 entrees just to feel somewhat satisfied!
Guys you got the restaurant decor down - heap up the portions, or your business will dwindle, you simply are not offering good enough food and absolutely no value!!
very disappointed and hungry...
