Thanksgiving Dinner at Earls
Submitted Monday, October 11, 2010 - 3:39am [Dine in]

Whenever I don’t feel like have a full dinner or not that hungry, I always like come here for the Clam Chowder and garlic bread (garlic toast but they it garlic bread) or a light snack like a Hamburger or Dry garlic sparerib. The waitress told me tomorrow Thanksgiving Day they will serve Turkey Dinner for $20. Per person, she told me it the first time Earls serve Turkey Dinner for Thanksgiving Day. I told her it’s a good idea; instead of cooking at home I will come here for dinner. I was pleasingly surprised that the Turkey Dinner was so good; I must express my satisfaction here in the review. Good presentation; Good portion of Turkey; green bean with bacon; mashed potato and cranberry sauce; and a bowl of tasty bean soup before they serve you dinner. I always consider Earls serve good Hamburg, fish and chips; certain type of steak, now they also served very good turkey dinner. I hope they continue the tradition next year. It’s a good beginning for them. As usually, service is always excellent here.

. To me I like eat the food instead of looking at it

October 6/2010, Wednesday, Sunny.

The Observatory:

It’s a very nice day, we didn’t plan to go anywhere before hand, since its my girl friend birthday, I decided to take her up to Grouse Mountain to have dinner at the Observatory

Crab $16.00
dungeness crab napoleon, cucumbers, fennel, lime crème fraiche, sweet cecily foam

Pacific Ling Cod $39.00
mussels, clams, german butter potatoes, arugula, truffled velouté

Peach Semifreddo $13.00
basil champagne coulis, hazelnut brittle

We both have the same items as the above, despite the fancy name on the menu, basely

Appetizer is : Crab meat with slice cucumber;
Main course: Ling Cod with 2 clams, 2 mussels,
Desert: Slice peach with Ice Cream.

Taste of the food is rather flat and portion is very small, this so call fine dining place is more on presentation rather then taste. To me I like eat the food instead of looking at it. Apart from the view there is nothing special about this place. We are not a drinker; total bill for the food comes to $170. with tax and tips. We don’t eat at place like that very often, may be once every 5 years. . As a regular eat out (3-4 times a week) person myself, I personally prefer eating at place like The Kegs, Bridge and Cactus Club. It’s more comfortable and down to earth type of food. However, according to most of the reviews, they all like the place. I like the place myself to a certain degree but express my view for comparison purpose. This kind of place is for tourist and special occasion.

My second visit
Submitted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 7:23am [Dine in]

The Keg- Yale Town Sept.27/2010

I have to write this follow up about my second trip to this Keg. Remember I was happy to discover this store that they are difference from all the other in term of décor and atmosphere? I though I have finally find a place for my Prime Rib and Steaks. What a disappointment! As usually I order my prime rib Med/R but it was served almost WD. The waitress only interest talking to themselves, completely disregard service to her customers. My first visit was very impressive about this place but my second visit change my mind. They are not consistent; you never know what you will get next time? I am going back to the Granville Island Keg or the Burnaby Keg. That's why these two Kegs are always very busy but the Yale town one was not busy today (Sunday, Sept.26/10 at 6:30pm dinner hour) the waitress only has 2 tables (2 and 3 persons in each table) to look after in her section. She should have amply of time to serve customers instead of talking to each other.

Cattle Cafe, Burnaby store across from Metrotown Shopping Centre

This review is for Cattle Cafe, Burnaby store.
So many people going to the Cattle Café and most of them wrote favorable reviews about them. I though I have to try it for myself.
Most of this type of restaurant operate and own by Taiwanese, they should not group as HK style café. The Taiwanese are very good operator for these type of restaurant, so is the Pearl Tea store, they all started by the Taiwanese few years ago.
Most of the ingredient are precooked and put together whatever you order and add the soup based whatever you order which are also already cooked. It’s very tasty and good variety to choice from the menu. For $7.25 per bowel, it’s not cheap and yet is not expense. Its much taster then the food served in the Vietnam Noodle restaurant. The atmosphere is much to be desire and service is very poor. All in all, Foods are fresh and price is reasonable, its worth of our business, I will be back and recommended to others.

On my second visit 2 days ago, I try their HOT POT , as mention earlier, this is Taiwanese style food restaurant, their HOT POT (beef brisket with lo bak) is nothing more then a BEEF BRISKET WITH LO BAK SOUP, nothing like the HK style, I was very disappointed. They charge $9.75 for this dish which should be cheaper than a bowl of noodle soup. The noodle soup has more ingredients and taster than the HOT POT. Be careful what you order here other than the NOODLE SOUP which they are good.

They cheat customers.
Submitted Wednesday, September 8, 2010 - 2:02am [Dine in]

they cheat customers.
Copa cafe, they cheat customers, they don't serve what they say in the menu, they serve you cheap food and difference item as stated in the menu. I order SING QUAI stir fry with beef, they serve CUCUMBER stir fry with beef. SING QUAI is completely difference from Cucumber ; one is a high grade melon and one is cheap melon. its completely difference taste. when I point out to the waitress, she insist its SING QUAI, until another waitress confirm with me that's not SING QUAI BUT SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, doesn't offer me change to another disk. I don't feel like eating something I don't like but they charge me the full price anyway. even the Manager don't do anything about it. You call this a good restaurant ? YOU ORDER FROM MENU, THEY SERVE YOU WRONG FOOD, AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EVEN YOU DIDN'T EAT ANY PART OF IT. Service is very poor too. very bad experience. don't recommend anybody to cater them, will not be back and will tell my friends what they are.Its no way to do business by cheating.

This review is base on fact not opinion. How would you like if you order steak and they serve you fish or pork chop or lamb? They only say how sorry they are and just you want you to pay and not eating it? Have anyone of you go to that type of restaurant before? The managerment of this restaurant must think we customers are stupid. I call this cheating.
