Another lovely evening
Submitted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - 11:01pm [Dine in]

Went with a girlfriend for some child free time. Lovely evening. Ate on patio at the back, perfect for the warm weather. Popcorn shrimp very moreish and short rib rigatoni so yummy. Very nice bottle of chilled Sauv. blanc, wine glasses slightly warm, which was a shame, but a minor peeve.
All in all money well spent!

Great English breakfast
Submitted Sunday, July 5, 2009 - 3:30pm [Dine in]

Went for Sunday brunch and had the traditional full English breakfast ( minus mushrooms). Boy, was it good! The Lincolnshire sausage was lovely, bacon yum, rest of it very good. Even had HP sauce - fantastic! It wasn't a fry-up - much nicer and lighter, but not poncy. Will be back again when the urge for a proper breakfast hits ( and when someone offers to look after the kids!).

Not that great
Submitted Saturday, June 7, 2008 - 8:31pm [Dine in]

Unlike the last reviewer, we didn't find the food was bland. Now don't get me wrong, I love spicy food, but this was just not subtle and not that great. Jambalaya was bordering on un-pleasant.Portions large, not always a good thing! Our 6 year old wouldn't eat the chicken tenders because he thought they were too greasy - and yes, we do visit fast food joints once in a while!
Service was very good and the children's vanilla ice cream was yum, but not worth a return visit..

Have just come back from Dim Sum and pleasantly surprised. Exceeded my expectations - food was very yummy. Good atmosphere and good service - we were a couple in amongst lots of large groups, but did not feel out of place at all. Will be going back for sure!

A bit ho hum really
Submitted Sunday, March 16, 2008 - 5:25pm [Dine in]

First time at the new venue for brunch. Booked a table because I remember it being heaving at old place. Very different ambiance, not better or worse, just different. Service - all very friendly and quite efficient.
Food - OK, nothing spectacular. Took a long time to come, and was sort of luke warm by the time it got to us. Portions not overly generous and not as well cooked as previous visits.
Different chefs ? Having an off day ? Not sure, but won't venture back in a hurry.
Shame rally because the food used to be really good.

Not quite what we were expecting!
Submitted Friday, March 23, 2007 - 8:31pm [Dine in]

First of all - we had no problem with waiting the 1 1/2 hours for a table, because we knew this was likely. We were, however a little surprised to find the area we were supposed to spend the time waiting was really very small! So we decamped to West ( Granville and 14th ) and consumed very nice cocktails while we waited.
Food - starters were very tasty, though not a huge portion given cost. Mains - beef shortribs delicious! Lamb popsicles way to rich - cream sauce not a good mix. Restaurant very noisy - something to be said for flock wallpaper!! Overall, not an experience we would repeat. Not being able to reserve a table is a pain in the a****. Not sure who the system is supposed to suit. The cynic in me would say the owners, because then they never have to worry about no shows! Service was patchy - I appreciate it was busy, but still.

Very good
Submitted Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 2:24pm [Dine in]

We booked a table at the last minute and they were very accommodating. We all had the fixed price menu - very good value! The food was delicious - starters - caesar salad was yummy - a nice twist on the traditional version, basically half a whole lettuce drizzled with sauce & cheese. Beef carpaccio was good as well. We had the pork, beef and risotto for mains - beef was absolutely gorgeous, as was the pork. Can't tell you about the risotto, because I'm not keen on mushrooms, but her plate was emptied! Desserts - mixed cheese plate very tasty; lemon tart - just that lemon and very tart! Creme brulee - incredibly rich, but good. . A very nice bottle of wine, from a good selection. And it was such a nice change to be in a modern and funky restaurant that actually seemed to have thought about the acoustics. Good sound absorbing surfaces, so you could actually hear each other and not everyone else. Service was excellent - all in all a very enjoyable evening and we look forward to returning!

A good time was had by all!
Submitted Friday, June 30, 2006 - 10:18pm [Dine in]

We went on a Thursday evening and, in spite of a large party, were seated promptly at the bar. The food was delicious and servings were ample - thought overall value was good. Was surprised to read so many negative reviews, because we had a very different experience. We have been to other good places ( Black Tuna, Hapa Izakaya) and would certainly rate this experience equal to those places.
