Sorry Red Rose, I was a customer off and on for years, and although I didn't care much for your entree meals, I could always count on your pizza.
Last night we ordered pizza like we have in the past, and it was...practically inedible. Dry crust, no sauce, and a meager portion of cheese which dried up and also tasted like it might have been a little off.
With the closure of the excellent Naida's pizza, and now Red Rose falling well short of the mark, I don't know where to get pizza in Surrey anymore!
The food is the best reason to go to Moderne, their burger is second only to Burger Heaven in New West, but their fries eliminate the competition. Such a filling meal - I could barely finish it all.
The 50's diner feel permeates the entire experience, it's so worth it to eat at this place. I recommend to everyone!
This is an excellent place to take guests to show them some of the best sushi Vancouver has to offer. Great portions, slightly elevated prices, but entirely worth it! Lots of tatami rooms so you don't have to sit in general population if you don't want to. Worth it!
Vera's Burger is still the best, but the Brewster's Signature Burger is a very close 2nd. Absolutely delicious.
However, pickup is probably the best way to go. The pub itself is no jewel, and the service was very poor. Most of their menu is pretty sad as well, but the burger is the one reason to stop in.
A good place for takeout - phone ahead and let them tell you when it will be ready. Otherwise you'll be sitting or standing around a long time.
Poor ambiance - too noisy and too smoky. Staff who clearly don't care if you have a good experience or not.
Expensive - it's best to go on a Friday when you can get a combo special for just under $10.00
However, they make the best burger in Surrey!
To be fair, I am divided on this place. The service was lacking, and the prices were just a little steep for my liking, however the food was excellent, and to me that's still the most important consideration. So we didn't get asked if we needed anything, and didn't get a refill, we had pulled pork and beef brisket and enjoyed it a lot! We will be back, it's worth giving them a bit more time to hit their stride.
We went for my wife's birthday, party of 5. The guys had baseball steaks, the ladies had appies and a sirloin Oscar special. All the steaks were cooked perfectly as per request. Caesar salads were top notch - easily the best restaurant Caesar I know of. If I had to pick any two things to complain about, they are:
1. Seating - everyone knows they like to lure the alcohol lovers into the bar area prior to dinner to sell more drinks, but by creating this schism between diners and drinkers, the dining area is always full. To compensate the dining customers who are always left waiting are constantly offered tables in the bar. Not good, every person I saw waiting was offered a bar table and every one said no. We held out for a dining table and it took a long time, while the bar was only half full but too noisy. They should scrap the bar area and just be a restaurant.
2. Prices - No question that the steaks I make at home don't hold a candle to theirs. However, the portions leave a little to be desired when compared against the prices.
Our server provided perfect service - not too little, not too much. Servers can be a little overbearing, but this one was there when we needed her, and gone when we didn't. Excellent.
We will go there again!
Another reviewer said it was too expensive, that may be somewhat true, but I got what I paid for - really good food! The service was okay, but they were quite busy. The food was well above average and I've tried a lot of different places. The best tempura anywhere! The Rock'n Roll is a full piece of Unagi (BBQ Eel) over a real crab California Roll with Unagi sauce on top. Very filling by itself and a real bargain given the quality and quantity. This place tops my recommended sushi in the Lower Mainland.
My wife and I love going there for Bento boxes...it doesn't look like much from outside, but their price and quality are excellent. Their sushi combo special always fills me up and is a delicious feast for the senses. The service is above average and they are always very nice. We'll keep on going back.
It's super. What can I say? Best barbecue in town and I know that means a lot of competition from other places, but I love it. Great food at a very reasonable price given the quantity you get. It's a heart-stopper special but if we can't chow down on some meat now and then, life isn't worth living. Highly recommended for takeout - the place is often too busy!
