This restaurant is located centrally at Kingsway and Royal Oak in a beautiful house just a few blocks from Metrotown. The prices are amazing, especially the combos. We got the $18 roll combo for 42 pc, $7 prawn tempura (huge prawns!) and $8 chicken teriyaki including rice. For this price, 4 adults + 1 child ate until we were stuffed for $40.00 with leftovers to spare.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. If you order take out 1 hour prior to pickup and pay cash, you get 5% off. Unlike a lot of cheap Japanese restaurants, this one had nice decor and ambience. The tempura batter is very light and crispy and the rolls are pretty big.
My only complaint is that the service is slow and servers are not very attentive. Our tea was not refilled at all and we had to try for several minutes to get the bill and then wait for at least 5 minutes at the counter to pay.
Judging by the reviews on here, maybe my experience was just one of their off days. My observations:
1) It was very quiet when I was there - right at lunchtime too - so that sent off some warning bells to begin with.
2) They are cheap. The owner actually shook his head and scowled at us when we presented the Entertainment book coupon for our meal. It felt as though we had done something wrong by using it when it was their choice to be in the Entertainment book to begin with, right?
3) The food value wasn't great. I got basically a bowl of noodles and 2 spring rolls for $6.99. They also tried to give us one bowl of sauce to share between 2 people instead of 1 bowl of sauce each as picture in the menu.
4) The server slammed down the cheque and was rude after finding out we had a coupon. She also shortchanged us by $2.
This place is really busy, noisy and crowded. It was one of the most stressful meals I have had. The people at the door were impatiently waiting for others to be done eating so they could be seated. I felt very rushed by servers and other customers. The food was good but I was surprised the chicken teriyaki didn't include rice. It was also a little oilier than I expected, with the bean sprouts sitting limply in the bottom of the skillet swimming in the oily sauce. I was trying to figure out why they are popular. My reasoning is that they are central, close to the skytrain and one of the few sushi places in this area? I might go back but only if I'm really craving Japanese food and can't wait to go somewhere else... or if I'm in the mood to scarf my food down in record time.
I had the pick-up/special of 16.99 for chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice and sweet/sour pork. Good portions, came in 3 rectangular styrofoam containers filled to the top. The chow mein was my favorite of the three. Cooked quickly and served fresh with the veggies done just right, not overcooked. The portion of pork was generous and I was impressed. The employees were really nice and welcoming and I will definitely be back, probably for take out again as the atmosphere is so-so and parking here is busy.
This is a review of their lunch buffet. I would definitly go back. Wow, their naan bread is fresh, not too oily and made to order even at the buffet. They have a nice selection of fresh veggies (broccoli, lettuce, cucumber, etc.) to complement the wide selection of curries and heavier dishes. Clean restaurant, dishes cleared promptly, quality food, many many dishes to choose from. This is much better than any Indian buffets I've tried including Mehfil in surrey, All India on Davie or New India on Broadway. It might be a bit more out of the way location-wise but I would make the drive out here if I were in the mood for indian food.
For at least 10 years this has been my favorite dollar pizza place. I've tried the 2001 flavors place next door and a whole bunch of others but something avout F.M. keeps me coming back. At one point I was really obsessed with it and bought pizzas by the pie instead of by the slice. I like their pesto pizza and their bacon mushroom. I've introduced many of my friends to this place and they are now also loyal customers.
This place cannot be beat. It offers variety, freshness (due to high turnover), speedy service, value beyond belief. Another reviewer praised their sticky rice. I vouch for that too. Amazingly good and ingredient packed. Their spring rolls are also notably good but you have to call and order ahead of time. I particularly like the stir-fried tofu and veggies and the chili chicken.
Safeway has better chinese food than this place. Even the mall is better! Maybe their western breakfasts are better but after my last experience I wouldn't want to chance wasting my money on anything else. The interior is tacky and run down, so the one saving grace is that I took my order to go and didn't have to sit there long.
of all the pho soups i've tried, pho 99's is the best. They are quick and nice. I like that their soups come with carrot and broccoli, not just meat and noodles for a change. They are generous with the sprouts too. I highly reccommend this place as it's the same price but so much better than fast food like McD's or A&W.
The food here, as at all Bread Gardens, is way too pricey, not fresh and not that tasty either. It all looks good in the glass cases but that's about all. I wonder how long it sits there sometimes, uncovered, drying out in the fridge before someone orders it. Their pastries are definitely a better bet than the savory food. Even if nothing else, it's worth it to get a cinnamon knot here.
The service I've had here is either so-so or simply bad. I came in to look at their travel mugs for gifts and was treated so poorly because I didn't order anything and I only wanted to look at the mugs.
I do not understand how they can charge the prices they charge here for how little food you get. It would be easy to spend a ton of money and still not be full. Our tea was not refilled at all theough the meal. This place has seriously gone downhill compared to 2 years ago. The only plus is that it's open late.
I have always found the service here to be good. The servers are prompt, polite, friendly and recognize regulars such as my friend and I. The food has recently gotten a lot better, perhaps from new management? They also have WiFi here which is a huge plus! My only complaint is that they air condition the building way too mujch and it's freezing in there!
The food was good (ordered some seasonal ixed greens stirfried in a spicy sauce and the old classic pad thai). Service was horrible! The servers were rude the moment they found out we were using an Entertainment Book Coupon. They made it seem like we were somehow less important because of the coupon. I would have walked out of the restaurant in protest of the rudeness if I hadn't been so hungry and tired at the time.
Their food is no better or worse than standard Domino's fare, however, I find the staff at this location nicer/friendlier than others. They open late for pick-up and delivery is quick. Great value when you go on days where there are deals like tues where the second pizza is something like $2. Or use the entertainment coupon for buy one get one free. The only criticism is that online ordering is so confusing!!!
I have been here twice. Once was a poetry reading and another time they had live music. I ordered crepes - savory ones - both times. They were OK... not memorable at all. In fact, I can hardly remember what they were like even as I write this. The staff made us feel a tad uncomfortable but they weren't rude... just not friendly
either. I would come back but it's not my first choice.
I prefer Costco frozen cream puffs to these!
They are grossly overpriced and when i was there the counter staff barely spoke to me - they nattered away in Chinese, only stopping to take my money and hand over the puff. I would not go back unless I were starving and this was the only thing available..
Nagano in general is overpriced, but I will admit that the food is better quality than say Sui Sha Ya or Sushitown. If you must go to a Nagano, choose the Coquitlam location 5 minutes away, by Coq. Ctr, as their ambiance is nicer and their service is faster/better. Nagano's rolls seem to be heavier on the mayo than other places I've tried and they seem to serve their rice warmer in the rolls than others.
This place is great! Fast service, nice newly updated interior, good servers. The initial AYCE plate is a mixof fries and fish but after that you can order just fish, no fries and eat as much of that as you want. Price includes drink. They're pretty quick too, even though it's usually packed when I go for ayce there.
I have been here 4 times. If the food wasn't decent and I didn't have entertainment book coupons, I would not come here. As others have said, the servers treat you terribly and are downright rude. It feels like you're getting on their nerves by being there. I wonder why they don't realize that we, the customers, are paying their salaries! Management must like to hire rude servers since all my experiences there - with different people - has been the same.
I will not go back, despite how much I like their goat cheese croquette salad and despite the 2 for 1 coupons.
