my steak is size of egg...
Submitted Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - 11:25am [Dine in]

I went to goldfish for TOY menu few days ago.
The menu sounded delicious options so we chose it without reconsideration. Maybe I was wrong. I went during happy hour and it looked like a much better deal than this menu.

Beef rib was moist and tender but it tasted more like something I could cook at home with pressure cooker. Nothing exciting there. My premium oysters were SURPRISINGLY small. size of toonie. They sell these for 15$ for 4??? thank goodness it was 3 course meal menu. I would be super duper disappointed. It had good side sauce but super disappointed by the portion. Then the steak came. It was so tiny. smallest steak i've seen anywhere. It was size of a small egg. My boyfriend couldn't believe they charge 35$ for this in the regular menu. HE was not even half full after eating this.

Their dessert was better. creme brulee was delicious but the entree was so small in portion. I am not a big eater but this was just ridiculous.
I will not come back for regular menu. maybe for happy hour menu. It seemed to have more variety and "appropriate portion size"

Fulin Hot Pot Restaurant3025 Lougheed Hwy, #780, Coquitlam
Definitely a hidden gem in coquitlam
Submitted Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - 11:21am [Dine in]

I went to his hotpot with my family last night.
My parents are really not keen in trying new food other than the food they eat all the time. I recommended this place after reading good reviews on dinehere. For the first time, dinehere review was right!

We had alll you can eat hotpot dinner. It included one free dipping sauce (totally recommend japanese ponzu sauce) and variety of food. The beef slice was highest quality I've seen anywhere in vancouver. I went to sukiyaki in vancouver P*sh place and their meat is so gross and small amount. This place had thinly slice beef prepared as soon as we order (this took long to arrive b/c of this reason). But it was delicious. My dad is not a meat eater so he had prawns, oyster, mussels, fish tofu, squid(so soft and tender) and other non meat food. IT was overall excellent! My mom wants to return in the near future

As for the service, the lady who served was so alert and courteous. Refill the broth when it is low (it was chicken broth or some sort. not sauce and water mixture like other place) offers us spoons when we were slurping soup from the bowl, cold water. and so on. I just loved it!

I would definitely return :) wonderful know that place like this exists in coquitlam.

hmmm where are my pecans?
Submitted Sunday, June 29, 2008 - 4:03pm [Dine in]

went here with my bf few weeks ago for nice dinner. im huge fan of evil jungle salad but they didnt have it at this location. So i ordered ahi tuna taco and beach salad. the food was amazing i have to say. ahi tuna on crusty shell just melt in your mouth but omg was it ever so messy to it them. It was not something you can eat without making so much of mess of your hand and mouth. as for my salad, it was good except they missed entire 1 ingredient of salad, pecans. I don't know what the chef in the kitchen was thinking but there were none. i wanted to ask my waitress except she was no where to be found. I waited for "someone" to come by so I could show them there none to begin. The manager happen to walk by and I asked her why pecans are missing from my salad. She was quick enough to go and get some from the kitchen but even by this point, my waitress was no where to be found.

I totally recommend you try some other joey's restaurant for their meals. This place is just too busy and noisy for some people to have nice dinner.

DINE OUT - could improve on their service
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 11:43pm [Dine in]

Having heard such a great reviews about this place, i was really excited to try this place! The appetizer, especially the cheddar pie was just oustanding. The entree was okay but didn't meet my expectation(maybe i set mine too high) dessert was just really sweet but still good :) upside down cake was really nice~

The service was bit slow. I never got my cup filled with water until i asked just before i paid my bill. I know dine out is busy time but they could at least walk around filling people's water cup. I saw some waiters walking around looking at people. I was hoping he noticed my empty cup. Anyway overall it was good. The hype didn't really meet my expectation but it was nice dinner.

I wouldn't really go back for their "pricey" meal unless their service improves.

Try their appetizers but NOT entree..
Submitted Sunday, January 20, 2008 - 8:06pm [Dine in]

I went there with couple of my friends since some people were praising this place so highly. The concept of mixing liquor into their food is unique and attractive but the taste didn't really meet the expectation. With couple of my friends, we decided to give this place a try for Christmas party. The place was located very far from the central part of the downtown. Took us some time to find this place. There were 2 chefs who were making our dish who seem to chat more than cook. The appetizers came out after 40 mins and our entree came out after more than an hour. Our server apologized for the delay but then the chefs were still chatting away. It turns out they burned our entree and had to remake it. Since it took so long to came out, everyone was starving. When we got the meal not only was it small portion(it wasn't dine out) but it tasted so horrible. My friend ordered Halibut and it turned out the most blend fish we've ever had! It tasted like nothing.. i emphasize NOTHING.. it looked or tasted as if it was boiled in the water with no seasoning or sauce whatsoever. We asked our server if this is how this dish supposed to taste like and she goes like "it's supposed to be very blend fish so you can't expect something unique about it. if you want some salt and pepper you can try to season it." We were like.. we are supposed to season the fish on our own with salt and pepper? Then my chicken or my mash potato didn't taste like they were seasoned either. We are not a picky eater but it was just like worst entree meals we've ever had. 25$ for halibut was total waste of money. PERIOD!

We all had different entree but hated all of them.
Of course we are never coming back to this place again. I even think HONS can season their meal better than this place.

Lunch maybe dinner? omg!
Submitted Friday, November 23, 2007 - 12:27am [Dine in]

BC sushi has good selection of sashimi to try during the dinner. But I think it really isn't worth my money unless i plan on eating only expensive sashimi for whole night. I found 2 strands of hairs on 2 different green salad. The kimchi was sweet and sunomo was rock hard.

Their washroom is the most disgusting place on earth. I dont know how they are still operating under this dirty conditions.

For the money's worth, if you really crave sushi then go for lunch. you can pay 2 dollar or so for sashimi unless you are one of those ppl who just love eating variety of sashimi.

Service is decent but the waitor and waitress are awfully rude and throw dishes around when food is there.

I don't recommend going there for AYCE

Best Earl's experience
Submitted Friday, November 23, 2007 - 12:22am [Dine in]

a big group of friends went to this Earl's restaurant for club formal dinner. It turned out to be excellent. The service was very prompt and we got our food really quickly even though it was 20 ppl group. The seafood spicy penne was extremely mouth watering so I totally recommend it. Apple porkchop was little too saltier than my friend expected and baby calamari just melts in ur mouth! Definitely going back to this place again. I wanna thank my waitress who spent 2 hours and half trying to serve us and get everything organized :)

Plus it was sort of birthday party event so we got all the plates and forks we need to share one cake between 20 people :P

Only thing was that the place was little noisy. Kinda expected from place like this. Im sure we were the most noisy group of all. Even still, it was hard for us to make conversation between people who are on the other side of the table.

Overall it was very pleasant experience and i will probably go back there again soon .. except this time probably much smaller group :)

Submitted Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 10:23pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I went there around 6 on Wednesday night and the place absolutely empty so one server was with whole time(but people rushed in afterward and place was filled quickly). First, we got our "bread" and like other people said, it was quite small compare to other places but the spread they us was just amazing! I had "Rose" winc which just blew my mind away. I am not too fond of "red wine" when eating my steak, but the Rose wine was just like "PERFECT" I might go back there just for that drink! Perfect with my steak. Then my appetizers came. Butternut squash fondue, for my taste it was little too cheesy but it definitely was unique dish. For my boyfriend, he had prawns with salsa sauce. They gave three nicely cooked prawns with table spoonful of salsa. He said it was quite tender and delicious as well. As for our main entree, steak with melted chees on top, my server recommended medium well and it was just perfect! It was little bit on salty side(outside) but as I had more and more steak, it was just juicy and tender!!! I had steaks from other places and they were little too oily or sometimes not seasoned enough, Infinity had just amazing steak! Then to our desserts, I have to say it was just gnache cake was amazingly chocolaty and yummy, but it was extremely SMALL. It was less 1cm thick and about 5 cm long? I was quite full after steak, but still it was little too small for my taste.
Overall it was nice experience at infinity and server's politenees and friendly environment was definitely something unique about this place. Only thing I was iffy about was that it is right next to pacific BLVD and it didn't have much of view. I would have enjoyed my food even more if there was nice view came along with my meal. Oh plus, the washroom was gorgeous too. Very clean tons of lotions and soaps you can choose from =P just little added bonus? Sure!

Delicious food but dirty dishwares
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 2:28am [Dine in]

Few days before new year's eve, I went there with my boyfriend to try their famous prime rib. When we go to the restuarant it was rather quiet and empty; nonetheless, the waiter's service really wasn't very attentive. It took him at least 15 mins to come and ask us about our order. We ordered red wine to eat along with our ribs. He kindly recommended this wine that tasted great but wine glass totally ruin the taste of it. It was EXTREMELY dirty and sticky !! I was going to ask waiter to changed the wine glass but it took me way too long to catch his attention to get it changed. The food was definitely worth every penny. The rib was so tender and juicy! The regular was bit big for me but probably right size for men or someone with big appetite.
I might go back again only if they have cleaner glassware.

What happened to iron chef?!
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 2:22am [Dine in]

Hearing and seeing Rob Feenie on food tv, I was excited to go and try Feenie's food. Knowing how crazy that place can be, I visited the restaurant around 3:30ish. It was rather quiet and the waitress was quite attentive until she started to chat with other waiters and waitresses. The cup was rather quite dirty for me to grab on and it was super sticky! The food took not to long to come out. The shepherd pie made of duck confit is definitely delicious but the one I ordered was scallop & prawn spaghettini. It was rather quite cold and the prawn was not cooked enough!! I ended up having stomach ache afterward. We tried destructive indulgence as dessert. THAT was good and melted in my mouth!

Maybe I was expecting too much from iron chef owned restaurant? I rather go to lumiere than go back to this place and buy/eat "inadequeate" food

Loving every moment!
Submitted Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 2:09am [Dine in]

Went to Aqua Riva for first time last year during dine out season. Wasn't expecting much but the food was just amazing! i had pork sirloin and it just melted in my mouth and so did the soup they gave me! *thumbs up* then went there again for lunch. The seafood was fresh and everything was perfect. Literally my cup was filled with water every second I took a sip. There was one waiter assigned to go around the restaurant to fill up people's glasses. VERY impressed.! My boyfriend had a steak and it was just about right too. I am planning on going again for this year's dine out. We will see how that turns out
