I found one (and only one) item on the menu that appeared to be vegetarian - wild mushroom risotto. Sounds good, doesn't it? But when I inquired if it's vegetarian, the answer was "Sorry, it is made with chicken stock." (The correct answer would have been: "We'll be happy to make it with vegetable stock for you.") What? Do they make this stuff in advance? Well, the salad was good anyway....
The service at this place is certainly better than across the street at India Bistro. It's also a better value (more generous portions, somewhat lower prices). But the ambiance can only really be described as tacky (or if you were generous, "homey"). The food is okay, not great. But overall, a good meal with pleasant service is always worth a return visit.
Note to waiters everywhere: Go easy on the cologne, eh?
Had dinner at India Bistro last night. We were off to a good start, with a warm welcome by the genial host at the front entrance. The interior of the restaurant has a a nice ambiance, very cozy. I liked the food (channa masala, naan, basmati rice) and there was a good selection of wine, beer, and cocktails to choose from.
But the service was awful. The waiter (while fussing over the table of four next to me) completely ignored me. He delivered my food and never once checked back with me, even when I pushed my empty glass all the way to the edge of the table as a clue that I wanted another. One other minor issue: I found the menu difficult to read. Someone tried to be too artsy in layiing it out. Tip to restaurant owners: Clarity and readability are key elements in menu design.
