OK if you're in the area

The Lougheed Hwy/North Road area bordering Burnaby, Coquitlam, and New Westminster seems to be starving for a decent Chinese restaurant and this restaurant is the only one that is satisfactory in the area. Yes - the service could be improved upon as my family and I had to repeatedly ask the waitresses about our order. The other frustrating thing is that take out orders have priority over customers eating at the restaurant.
The prawns were good but price was higher than average at about $18.00 a dish - relatively speaking when compared to othe Chinese restaurants targeting the same customer base this is somewhat high.
As mentioned previously the value meals are a better deal.
Good to try out if you are in the area and want Chinese food. There is a parking lot and a parking spot may not be immediately available by the restaurant but parking can be found.

I've been going to this restaurant for years. Went today for dim sum and was surprised how mediocre the dim sum was. There was no creative or different, innovative food as what I've experienced in the past. This restaurant used to cater to a more prominent Chinese community but the demographic has definitely changed. Mind you I would still come here but was expecting a little bit more.
Agree with previous post

I agree with the previous post. I don't understand why people come to this place. Had a bad experience where I was neglected for forty-five minutes for a fish ball noodle soup - a very basic and quick bowl of noodles. Maybe they ran out? Anyway the servers avoided eye contact with me and were inattentive.
However, this place does seem to have quite a following but I wonder why based on my own experience?
Great Location and Great Food

I enjoyed my one dining experience here and the location is good. The service was fairly prompt. This restaurant definitely caters to the pre-theatre crowd because of its location.
I would like to go back however have not had the occasion to as I'm no longer in the area. I would recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant has good pho and I've enjoyed the meals here. However, I frequented this place less recently in light of the Vancouver Coastal authority reviews of this place.
I guess what I did previously was eat and try not to think about the kitchen as the cleanliness is something I would think but try not to think about.
On the other hand, I think it's important to support restaurants like Bao Chau as oppposed to McPho's - Pho Hoa.

This Pho restaurant is fairly consistent with the Pho Hoa's throughout the lower mainland. In my opinion, Pho 99 on North Road and Lougheed Hwy provides much better value.
The prices at the Pho Hoa restaurants have increased and the marginal value to the consumer has continued to decrease. As mentioned in other Pho Hoa post(s) the big chain mentality has had a substantial effect on the franchise name.
Perhaps one day it'll be called McPho's? That's right! You heard it hear first!!! By lesmark 'McPho's'! Gotta luv it!!!

This White Spot location has been around for years. I remember coming to this White Spot as a kid with my parents and ordering the pirate pack!
The service, food, quality has always been consistent and the location is so central too! (Right by Boundary and Lougheed Hwy).
As far as food goes it is the typical White Spot fare. I do remember a time when I was in college and coming in for a value lunch including drink, entree, desert for about $14! Ah, those were the days...!

I've always had a good experience at Sushi House. However, there have been times I had to leave because the lineup was long.
I thnk this restaurant began the sushi trend in Burnaby leading to Sushi Garden and Sushi Town for good value sushi. The traditional green leaf is served with the sushi and provides more authenticity and I've enjoyed it.
The service is close to no frills and the seating is quite limited.
I would recommend this place for sushi.

This pub has been around a while and is located in a strip mall. The regulars may appear a little rough around the edges from when I went.
The Entertainment coupon is accepted here.
The food is what you'd expect from pub food and is decent pub food.
Nothing particularly spectacular to make the drive out to this place but if you're in the area and looking for a pub on this street then it may be considered.
Average Japanese Restaurant
Submitted Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 11:50pm [Dine in]
I have frequented this Restaurant and have seen several generations of owners within the last two years. It may have been Japanese owners who owned this restaurant in May - I can't quite recall but there was a change in ownership earlier this year.
There are frequent customer credits in which a stamp is placed on a business card. However, in the price range of $7.95 the selection for lunch is severely lacking.
The service has been decent and the food has been consistent. With the most recent owners it took some time for the gyozas to be cooked properly as it was undercooked when they took over the restaurant.
Unfortunately, there is no sushi bento box that is available other than a California Box which includes only California Rolls.
Wouldn't go out of my way to try this restaurant and there are other restaurants that provide better value and selection.
Average fish and chips

This restaurant has recently relocated across the strip mall to a former Taco Time location. The fish and chips are average at best and passable. The all-you-can-eat specials on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday is a fairly good deal that includes bottomless pop.
The ambiance for me is lacking as I had previously frequented Taco Time when it was there.
Service has been decent.
I would recommend this place if you are in the area or looking for all you can eat fish and chips. The Cockney Kings location in North Burnaby also has a similar all-you-can-eat special.
Now Closed/Reopened under new name

This restaurant has now closed and reopened under the name 'Gimono'. Haven't been but I did have a chance to try Shinjuku several times when it was open.
This restaurant is unique in that it is an old house.

This restaurant has the best burgers in the Lower Mainland at this time. Rodeo burger was pretty good when they were open but Moderne Burger has a better interior, service and burger. The milkshake was awesome. Although on the pricier side I think it is definitely worth a visit. I prefer Moderne Burger over Burger Etc. when comparing burgers. When it comes to the milkshakes there is no real comparison - in my opinion.
I would recommend Moderne Burger.
Great value for Greek food

This restaurant provides incredible value. I prefer this place to Stepho's. The fact that I don't have to endure a big line up is attractive. Also, the food is very good here. The service maybe somewhat lacking when it gets busy but that can happen in any restaurant.
I've enjoyed my meals here and would recommend this restaurant.

I agree with the previous post. This restaurant has been around for years. A trip inside is like walking into a time machine and you are instantly taken back to a different era - for me...an era where I wasn't even born yet. Anyway...might I digress.
The couple are attentive and the regular customers are patient. I felt like helping out seeing how it was the waitress who was kept very busy. I actually asked her if they were hiring and she said no. This restaurant definitely has a charm which I really enjoyed.
I enjoyed the baked potato!

Nick's is quite the institution. The pasta and salad are quite consistent and good. There is quite a following for this place. Evenings can sometimes be frustrating as the place is packed. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been.
Good Vietnamese Sandwich

Nice place to go when I'm in the area. Appears as though it's family run. The sandwiches are consistently good. One may want to be aware of the handling of money and the making of sandwiches but for the most part it's a clean act.
There is parking next to this sandwich shop which is on the outskirts of Chinatown.

Had an unfortunate dining experience at A Kettle of Fish. I'm allergic to mussels and unfortunately ordered a seafood bouillabaisse. Mentioned it to my server prior to ordering and he said that it does not have mussels. When it came - it had mussels. So it was returned and came back less the mussels but the same soup.
Yes, on the way home I had a gutwrenching experience that lasted through the night.
Won't be back.
Nice place to have dinner

The view is quite remarkable however the number of times I've been to Horizon's we've never had a seat with a view. Not sure what the prerequisite might be?
The food is very good and the service has been exceptional. This place provides good value in a nice environment. Have enjoyed my time here and maybe one day will get a seat with a view.

When this place first opened it seems this restaurant had a greater desire to establish itself. Since then the pho, soup, and service has deteriorated somewhat to a lackadaisical nature.
The pho is still decent but as far as location goes it is convenient. There are times when there are people at the cash register who don't seem to notice customers trying to vie for the employees attention.
It's a place to go if you're in the area and wanting pho. I mean pho is pho right?
