Don't roll your eyes at use
Submitted Saturday, May 18, 2013 - 1:58pm [Dine in]

First off if you don't have the discount card don't bother with this place.

Reserved a table for 5 adults and 1 child for 12 noon. We waited 40 minutes because the chubby lady with the glasses at the front decided to let the regulars in first. Ordered food and waited another 30 minutes. How do I know 30? The time is written on the order receipt. Empty containers were not cleared off the table. Based on these things I gave the service a poor rating.

Food and value ties together. They make up the difference on the discount by charging a bit more than other places. Plus they shrunk the portions. Food taste was decent for the hai gow and Sui Mai. The Chinese donut wrap was a tad over oily. 2 dishes came out luke warm.

Ambiance was nice. If you decide to have a wedding here there is unobstructed views. Restaurant is a tad on the smaller side compared to some others in Richmond.

As we were leaving miss chubby gives a frown and rolls her eyes at my mother and mutters some negative remarks. Nice service /sarcasm

Overall I would give this place a pass and look somewhere else for your dimsum craving.

lastly not related to the restaurant. Parking is terrible here. There is a complex on the mckim side you can park at. Street parking meters don't take new coins. Example: I paid $3.75 for 1hr 27min of parking.

Mediocre at best for the two times we've been here
Submitted Saturday, December 25, 2010 - 2:25am [Dine in]

My wife and I have been here twice. The last and final time was a few days ago. Both times we had indifferent service. We'll start off with the good stuff first.

Ambiance - It's a neat Greek restaurant with nice decor. Better than most other Greek places.

Now for the bad...

Value and Food are both poor imo. Slightly more expensive than other places. The kicker here is that one time it wasn't bad. The last time? The roast lamb was not as tender and succulent as they claim. We brought to the attention of our waitress, but she just shrugged it off. ( we got some pretty downright nasty glares we when paid and left)

Service - What happened to the service? They didn't even bother to check up on us after giving us our entrees. We asked for water refills, but it was forgotten twice. Plus we got nasty glares when we left.

Overall I wouldn't be back a 3rd time. I chalked the 1st time as an off night. After the 2nd time, forget about it. Go at your own risk.

One of the better Pho places
Submitted Sunday, July 19, 2009 - 6:39pm [Dine in]

There is ample parking for this place. The eating area also seats a lot of people. The place gives an overall impression that it is clean and the staff cares about the look and the customers.

We came here for lunch (friend suggestion) and the portions are quite large. My wife had to pack her noodles. The food tasted really good and it doesn't seem like they used bad ingredients. The Pho soup base was good and there doesn't seem to be any over use of MSG or even any at all.

Service was a surprise here. The servers were busy, but they were also attentive and followed through with all our requests, like extra fish sauce, napkins, tea quite quickly.

This is definately a step up for pho places. After coming here, I have to say I won't be back to some other places I've been to in the past.

yummy food mixed with great atmosphere
Submitted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 4:02pm [Dine in]

my wife and I have been to this location several times. Most of the time, we arrive at 6pm so it's not as busy and you can find street parking easily. This place is loud and has a lively atmosphere. They have seating on the outside too, but the one time we sat outside, it was a tad cold. Try to get reservations if you go because there could be long wait times.

The food is solid and they have a good selection for their menu. The value is decent for the quality of food you are getting. The staff are nice and they do a great job clearing the dishes and taking orders without screwing up.

Great night out
Submitted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

We had a great time at Milestones the other week. We were a party of 6 plus 1 baby and they accommodated us without a problem.

Our server was really nice and saw to the needs of the baby (warm water, napkins, etc) and she did it with a smile.

The food was good, I ordered the prime rib. It was cooked to my liking and the sides it came with was also good. There were no complaints about the food at the table and there was no rush to get us out of there either.

The restaurant is family friendly since I saw lots of tables with younger children. They can get busy, but it seems like they have it all under control

Good place for dinner if the budget is tight
Submitted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 3:38pm [Dine in]

We came here to eat on a Saturday night. It was busy so I was glad we made reservations. The seating area is quite large and there are tables and booths. We were promptly greeted and seated within a few minutes.

The ambiance was nice, stained glass like decor and some older items around the seating area. We got a booth, which was quite comfortable.

Service was good, our waitress was really nice and she checked on how we were doing several times.

Food, I ordered the 3 sauce spaghetti and I was disappointed. The 3 sauces were separate, but the white sauce just doesn't seem to go with the other 2 red sauces.

Value is there, how can you go wrong with a meal, drink, icecream and bread for so cheap? I would go back for sure.

clear the tables!
Submitted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 2:08pm [Dine in]

This is the second time I've eaten here, but the details below are consistant with the first time I ate there. I already expect mediocre service, so I wasn't surprised.

When you arrive inside, you'll notice there is nobody there to greet you. You'll see the waitress acknowledge you, but you'll need to grab the menus yourself and seat yourself. Now here comes the 1st problem. Most of the tables are not cleared, all the dishes are left sitting on the table from the previous customer.

My mother received a dirty cup of tea, there were a few sprigs of bean sprout floating in the tea. She asked for a new cup, the server apologized, but she never came by again with a new cup.

Ambiance is decent for a pho place. Usual smattering of tables and chairs. There is a smell coming from the washroom area though, so you know they don't clean it as often as they should. Heck, if they don't clear off the tables, what do you think about the washrooms or the kitchen?

Food was just okay. There seems to be a large amount of MSG in the soup base. You start getting thirsty right after.

I don't think I'll return to this location in the future since there are other pho places in the area. I've been to the kingsway location and I think that one is cleaner and the service is slightly better.

Submitted Sunday, July 12, 2009 - 5:30pm [Dine in]

Our party of 5 came here for lunch today. There were a few people ahead of us, but we were seated in about 5 minutes. They have 2 menu choices for lunch, a 10.95 one and a 12.95 one. The 12.95 one includes sushi, both menus do not have sashimi.

Food was decent and it came fairly quickly. Tastes the same as any other AYCE place. The sushi seemed to have slightly more rice than other places, but still good. Tea was quickly re-filled without us having to ask. The person taking our order was patient since we had several questions to ask.

Ambiance was okay, it's a larger place that has an open seating area. Large windows all around, which let in natural light. Seemed to be clean all around. Tables were cleared and cleaned in a timely manner.

The food is pretty solid here, never have gotten sick and the value is great. There is bare min service here though, but what can you expect? You're not eating at some fancy place. The place tends to have a line up so come early or be prepared to wait 20 - 30 min. Make sure you go to the register and put your name down for a table. Don't go in expecting someone to take your name/info

Ambiance: The interior was nicely decorated and the view is fantastic, especially if you're sitting at a window seat. The upper patio looked like a nice place to relax from the outside.

Service: There wasn't anyone to greet us when we arrived on the 2nd floor, we waited about 1-2 minutes before a waiter came to seat us and give us menus. The service started out to be not bad, but after our order was taken, our waiter disappeared until we asked for the bill. The person that brought us our food wasn't even the same person, and there were only 5 other tables on our level. Nobody came by to ask us how the food was or ask if we needed anything like water, etc. The other table seemed like they had better service though, I noticed their waiter (same guy that sat us) re-filled their water without being asked, was attentive and was generally pretty nice.

Food: The food was decent, my wife ordered the black tiger prawn fettuccini ($18), pasta cooked just right, al dente. 8 prawns. flavors were nicely infused, maybe a tad too much black pepper. I ordered the black angus sirloin steak sandwich ($18) with a side of yam fries and a side caesar for an extra $2. I enjoyed the caesar better than my main dish. I asked for medium rare on the steak, but it came out well done. I was expecting a bigger portion on the sandwich.. 3 slices of tomato on the side seasoned with pepper were a nice touch. Yam fries were not oily or seemed to be re-fried.

Value: We felt the value was just okay. I guess we're paying a bit extra for the nice ambiance, like the view. I think a steak sandwich at another place would have tasted better and have had more value. The pasta was a generous portion.

Overall: We won't be back, but it's nice if you haven't been. Go during a sunny day if you have free time and aren't in a rush for service.

Pretty good dishes
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 9:44am [Dine in]

Our party of 4 arrived at 6:30pm and the place was packed. It's best to make reservations or you'll never get a table. We were greeted promptly and seated.

Food was good overall, they had some pretty decent looking dishes and service wasn't slow. We only got a mix of dim sum and appetizer dishes instead of the dinner courses.

Service was okay I guess, it would depend on the waitress you got. The one that initially took our order seemed very indifferent, like she didn't care to even be there. However, a few other servers were attentive and the manager was nice.

Value was there, the four of us were quite full and our bill only came to $55.

I was there at the same time chasiubow was when the waitress slipped. She really was down and out, looked like she wasn't ever going to get up. Being 2-3 tables away, nothing I could do to help since a few people already rushed in to assist. The floor is wooden and gets slippery when wet (old bread garden floors). My only complaint I had was the men's washroom, it wasn't clean and it appears some people had some "accidents" on the floor.

Overall, I'd come back and luckily we never got any foreign objects in our dishes.

Decent food but poor service
Submitted Saturday, January 31, 2009 - 7:38pm [Dine in]

My wife and I had a hunger for pho so we decided to stop by Gold Train on Kingsway. When we entered, we were half heartedly greeted and had the menu thrown on the table.

The food was decent for pho standards, but it's like almost every other pho place.

Value was standard, you pay for what you get at these pho places.

Ambiance was alright, lots of windows to look out into the street. Aside from that, not much else.

Service - I gave them a 1 star rating because they seemed to have either an attitude or they were not even interested. We tried to flag someone down multiple times for service, but the waitress just looked at us and walked on by.

Overall, we won't be back due to the poor service. Kingsway is full of other pho places.

DOV 2009 Outstanding Evening
Submitted Saturday, January 31, 2009 - 7:29pm [Dine in]

We dined here for Dine out Vancouver last week. We had a reservation for 6 and when we arrived we were greeted with a smile and seated promptly.

The ambiance of this restaurant is really nice. The decor was trendy and the music was just loud enough to hear, but soft enough to carry on a conversation.

Value, well DOV gives you a chance to sample the food at a reasonable cost. Looking at their regular menu, the food all seemed well priced. They even have a daily "set menu" for a decent price.

The service was outstanding, the waiter was personable and friendly. He was able to answer all our questions regarding food and wine selections without a problem. There was also no rush from the staff to get us out of there.

The food was incredible. I ordered the braised short ribs which were fall off the bone goodness. The portions for this dish was surprisingly large especially for DOV. Usually it's 1-2 pieces, but they gave 3-4 medium to large pieces. My wife ordered the sugar cane skewered prawns, prawns were okay and the chili sauce was not spicy at all. For the entree, I had the duck breast. It was cooked to perfection. I also tried some of the sablefish and it was one of the better fish dishes i've tried in awhile. Lastly, the crème brulee was standard fare, not too overly sweet, but just right.

They had a very interesting drink on the menu called the Hello Kitty. It was like champagne with strawberry flavor.

Overall, we had an enjoyable evening at Goldfish and we'll definitely be back. The only thing I didn't like was the parking situation, but that's Yaletown... and out of the control of the restaurant.

DOV 09 - Excellent evening
Submitted Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 12:02am [Dine in]

Our party of 5 went tonight for their 2009 dine out menu. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated, and it was prompt. The restaurant has a cozy feeling to it. Music wasn't too loud, and the spacing between tables was good. It wasn't close enough to over hear conversations unless you really wanted to pry.

Service - Our waiter was awesome. He saw to all our needs. Was knowledgable and had a great personality. He actually spent some time to talk to us throughout the night so it seemed we really got personal service. Heck we even talked about Gran Torino and Slum dog millionaire!

Food - Most of us got the capaccio and caesar for starters. The extra $3 for the salad was worth it since it was put together so well. The duck was excellent, one of the best i've had. Tuna looked good and I got to try a piece of the lamb which was succulent. The chocolate torte was heavy, but went well with the raspberry sauce. Most of us didn't like the peanut butter mousse that was on top.

Value - The cost to dine here was decent, it's like any other higher end place. You get what you pay for and it showed in the freshness and the ingredients along with the service.

All 5 of us agreed we would be back even if it wasn't for dine out. Awesome waiter, sorry I didn't get your name, but if you read this, 2 thumbs up for you.

Would come back
Submitted Thursday, January 1, 2009 - 12:32pm [Dine in]

When you first walk into Zakkushi, you'll notice the dining area is quite small. The ambiance is really nice since it reflects traditional Japanese yakatori bars. There is a small bar that sits 2-3 people and several tables which you need to take your shoes off to climb into the seating area.

Service was pretty good on the night we went, but there were no other people waiting for a table. We were greeted with smiles and seated promptly. The place was full most of the night and they didn't seem to rush us. Our plates were cleared timely, tea was brought to us constantly. Eventually, they gave us an entire tea pot since we were drinking a lot.

Value - it's comparable to some izakaya places in pricing. The skewers (robata) were about $1.60 - $3.00 for one. If you're here expecting to get full on huge portions, this is the wrong place. This is a tapas type of environment and you are here for the experience as well as the food. Paying $6.80 for the Ika is about right. Guu and Kingyu are about the same price for the Ika. To quote one reviewer "If you know how to appreciate this type of food you will understand." It worked out to be approx $30 per person for the 3 of us.

Food - We ordered a soft shell crab and it was one of the better ones i've recently had. The chicken yakatori was cooked just right, juicy and flavorful. chicken hearts was okay, it was one of the weaker ones. Beef and pork was also cooked perfectly. Sashimi salad was decent and fresh. If you want to try various skewers, you can get the sampler, it's pretty good. The chicken udon was okay I guess, only had like 2 pieces of chicken.

Overall, we were all happy with the food and service. We will definitely be back.

Hidden Gem
Submitted Saturday, August 23, 2008 - 9:31am [Dine in]

Truly a hidden gem. I've driven past this place on many occassions and I've been meaning to try it. Finally last night, my wife and I used our entertainment coupon and had a fabulous time. Don't let the fact the restuarant is tucked away in a strip mall in the corner deter you from going.

Ambiance: The place was nicely decorated, yellows and blues with some pictures. It wasn't "loud" in a sense, it was pleasant. Don't let the outside of the building fool you.

Food: We ordered the roast lamb, homus and calamari appy. All three were pretty good. The roast lamb dish came with a side of greek salad, half a potato, rice, but no veggies. It was too much food for 2, so we packed some to go.

Service: We had excellent service on a Friday night (7pm). We were greeted prompted and the hostess who also doubled as a waitress was cheerful and pleasant. Our waitress was very nice. There was good communication and interaction. The place was 70% full and there was only 2 of them, however, they made it work. We were impressed in the efficient manner they handled the customers. The food was also brought to us in a reasonable time.

Value: I would recommend this place. Even if you do not have the entertainment coupon. The prices are reasonable.

Overall, this was a very nice place to dine. Heck, we got better service here than some other places that had double the staff.

Great fun place
Submitted Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 12:17am [Dine in]

Just went here for dinner tonight (fri nov 30). Got in at about 6pm so there was no wait, but after 7pm, the place started filling in quickly.

There was two of us and we each ordered the roast lamb and one clam appetizer. Clams were nice, decent portion, slightly more salty then I wanted however good overall. The roast lamb came with rice, potato, greek salad and a generous portion of lamb. Everything was fresh and the lamb was very tasty. I use to not eat lamb until I came to sample the lamb at Bouzyos.

The hostess was prompt and seated us almost right away. We only had to wait 2 minutes while they got our table ready. Our waitress was attentive and always smiled. Came around a few times to see how we were doing.

Ambiance was nice. It has a comfortable feeling to it. There was a live performance which wasn't bad. Last time was a belly dancer, this time around was a couple singing.

It's worth a try!

Someone needs to learn how to count at this place
Submitted Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 11:00pm [Dine in]

Had a party here last weekend with 11 others. Food was decent, but we never got what we ordered. As told by a few reviews for this place, it's quite true, you never get what you ordered. Food came quick and quality was good, better than some of the AYCE around town.

Sashimi was nice, robata was decent, shrimp tempura was good. Nothing was sold out or not available to us.

We went at 6pm and at about 7:20pm, it seemed like the waitress wanted to rush us out. Eventually, I guess the next party never arrived and they seemed to go easier on the staring/looking at their watch. We got out of there at 8:15pm.

Decor was alright, wasn't wow, but it wasn't bad.

Great Service, but food was disappointing
Submitted Sunday, May 13, 2007 - 11:30pm [Dine in]

For the prices we paid, I expected the food to have more flavor. We ordered the Ebi Mayo, it wasn't the typical one I expected; it wasn't even deep fried in batter, nor did it have Mayo sauce. We order a few rolls: the King of the Ocean, Lucky Dragon and the Black Widow. The rolls were about $12 to $14. I've had much tastier rolls for that price. Everything else that we ordered was only ok. Although because of the nice location of the restaurant and the excellent service; the experience was still pleasant. If you don't care about service and decor, you'd better off eating at a cheaper Korean / Japanese restaurant. Otherwise stick to Kingyo or Guu, which are around the same price range as Bliss.

Submitted Saturday, February 10, 2007 - 3:25pm [Dine in]

Went there last night with 4 friends. Walking in already gave me a big doubt, but I decided to try it anyways due to the entertainment coupon.

Food:
I ordered the kalamari dinner. Bad idea, it had zero taste (think cardboard kalamari), tough/unchewable at times. Only thing they got right was the greek salad on the plate. Potatoes were 85% cooked with no taste. Thank good fo salt and pepper on the table.

Service:
Was decent, came around several times to see how we were doing and to offer us drinks.

Ambiance:
Diner type style. Had two flat screen TVs.

Overall:
Good for a drink, avoid the food at all costs.
