Saffron Indian Cuisine4300 Kingsway, #5, Burnaby
Butter chicken
Submitted Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 11:23pm [Dine in]

We tried the Saffron Indian cuisine last long weekend. We enjoyed the butter chicken and tikka, lovely sauces and wild saffron rice. I also ordered the Chai tea, which was steeping hot, aromatic with spices, and sweet. Very nice. The restaurant was not too busy, so our server was very attentive, cleared our dishes away when the next course was ready. The restaurant was clean and neat and ambiance was quiet and modern.

House Special milk tea...
Submitted Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 11:17pm [Dine in]

I have tried lots of bubble tea houses around the Lower Mainland, and definitely Pearl Castle is at the top of my list. When I used to live in Vancouver, I would frequent this place more often since there was a Pearl Castle on Cambie (Oakridge), but every now and then I would venture into Richmond just for my bubble tea fix. The house special milk tea is my favourite, it's creamy, hot, and smooth...and served in a nice tea cup. The restaurant has expanded their menu, long before their specialty was bubble teas exclusively. The chicken elbows are really good, nicely salted and crunchy. The food is good and inexpensive, clean, modern decor, but the line-ups can be long in the evening....

My Greek Taverna946 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam
Calamari Lover...
Submitted Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 11:10pm [Dine in]

The first time we came to Mr.Greek for dinner, it was rather late in the evening, so the restaurant ran out of the calamari. Instead, we ordered the chicken and beef souvlaki dinner specials for $10.95 and a side of Keftedes. The chicken was very tender and tasty, and we had a heaping serving of rice and potatoes with it. The Keftedes were flavourfully seasoned, absolutely divine! We could not even finish half our meal! With drinks, appetizer and entree, the bill came to $30! Couple weeks later, we came back for the calamari, and it was definitely tasty and well worth it. The calamari appetizer portions were huge for $6.95, after the appetizer I was already full! What I like about the calamari is that it's not greasy, and it is a lighter batter of tender squid, cooked to perfection! May I say more...if you are in the Coquitlam area, Mr.Greek's is a better alternative than driving all the way to downtown Vancouver to Stephos, where you would line up for at least an hour to satiate yourself!

House of Tofu Soup4563 North Road, #1&2, Burnaby
No beef, no egg
Submitted Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

My husband and I tried the House of Tofu Soup on North Rd for dinner tonight. We ordered the bibimbab and regular beef & tofu soup combos. We were quite astonished by the lack of egg and beef in the bibimbab dish, practically non-existent especially when we were still hungry after the meal! This place fails to compare to the Metrotown Korean Tofu House, and we didn't feel it was worth the $9.99. The tea was sitting lukewarm in tupper containers. The service was lacklustre, we didn't think the servers or the owner could comprehend English. We may try other Korean restaurants in the area, but definitely not returning to this one!!!
