Topanga Cafe2904 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
Best Mexican food in the city
Submitted Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 2:34am [Dine in]

I have been to Topanga twice, and I loved it both times. First and second time there I had a burrito plate with refried beans and Spanish rice.

The quality and authenticity of the food is pretty close to the Mexican food you would get in Texas or California. I can't think of another place in Vancouver ( or western Canada ) that does Mexican food this good.

And the staff is really nice. You want something--just ask. No attitude, just good service in this cozy little place.

I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Good food... if you have lots and lots of time.

I like pretty much everything on the menu here, from the smoothies to the nut loaf. And as everyone says, the samosas are great ( according to someone I once spoke to "they're like crack!" )

The place is always extremely dirty, and the service is probably the slowest in the city. But overall this is one of the best veggie places on the Drive.

Jitters Caffe1966 W 4th Ave, Vancouver
Jittery Attitude?
Submitted Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 12:17am [Dine in]

This place looks cool from the outside ( plus it appears to be licensed ) but don't let appearances fool you. The second ( and last ) time I purchased a coffee at this place I was met with the rudest most discriminatory attitude and remarks I have ever received at a coffee shop anywhere. And this came from either a manager or an owner(unless I am to assume the have a random 45 year old man working there ). Sure, I was tired, scruffy, looking liked I had just woken up. But it's A COFFEE SHOP!... people do go there in the morning...
Don't waste your time with this place. Go to Wired Monk down the street or even Starbucks.

Naam, The2724 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
A Vege Landmark
Submitted Friday, October 10, 2008 - 2:14am [Dine in]

I think the Naam is just one of those places that is just as much about the people and the experience as it is about the food. I have probably been there about 15 times in the last year and I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience there.

The last time I went I had the tempeh reuben and my friend had the Italian melt. We were seated and served within 30 minutes ( on a busy Friday night ) and we both enjoyed our meals as they were delicious. The server obviously does not have a fine dining background but he did a good job in any case.
I wouldn't go there if I was in a rush, but otherwise a nice cozy place which is open all hours of the day and night.

Budgies Burritos44 Kingsway, Vancouver
It is what it is.
Submitted Friday, October 10, 2008 - 1:32am [Dine in]

I eat at Budgie's a couple of times a week. Tasty, filling, and nutritious lacto vegetarian and vegan burritos and a good selection too. They have Blue Sky Soda which is also a plus.

Some of the staffers are pretty cool and are fun to chat with. But there are also some seemingly passive aggressive weirdos that work there too. Ah well. Worth visiting regardless of occasional bad vibes, plus the price ( $7 ) is better than most fast food places.
