The chicken can be spicy--but if you don't like spice, you can order it with the lemon spicing and it's quite mild yet still very tasty. Their rice is very flavourful, and they make a fine baked potato as well. It's not as cheap as many fast food places, but you get a lot of food. I've been there three times now, and will keep coming back.
Located where the old BC Pen used to be. Food's OK for the most part, but the attempt to exploit the "prison" concept as a sort of tourist eatery is so tacky. Believe it or not, the servers all wear striped shirts. At least they got rid of the ball and chain washroom keys. And the booths were recently replaced and are somewhat more comfortable. Most of the dishes are fairly good, but I had one of the worst spinach salads ever--wilted greens beyond belief. Soup's pretty good, though. And service is friendly.
I love their bagels. Siegel's and Solly's certainly appear to be the best in the area! Some great pastries as well. But nothing beats their smoked meat sandwich (always get a large one). They get their smoked meat right from Montreal, and be sure you ask them to chop the fat off before they slice it.
Some of the best Thai food in the lower mainland--not that I'm an expert (although I've eaten at many).. And iin a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. I've been going there regularly since it opened, and my favorite dishes are: (1) Red Curry--with a unique, anise or fennel flavour. (2) Rice Soup: I keep craving more of that fresh ginger and garlic mix. (3) Spinach with garlic sauce. Wow! Too small as a meal on it's own, but I just love the smoky tasting beans they use in it. (4) The other 3 currys--Green (when it's not too oily), Yellow, and Matsoman are out of sight. Good spring rolls too. And the chicken soup they serve with the combination dishes tastes almost....Jewish.
