Let me preface this review of Glenwood by saying that the true test of a pizza joint is the quality of the Capicola Ham they use.
This was the second time we have ordered from Glenwood. We ordered the "Standard" Pizza which was very good. Lots of toppings, cheese etc. The second pizza was "Capicola Hawaiian". Your typical Hawaiian with Capicola as a substitute for regular ham. You would think that when you order Capicola Ham, you expect to see and taste it on your pizza.
Capicola for those who don't know, is a spiced Italian Ham, characterized by a red/orange rind and red/orange veins into the marbled pork. Tasty and spicy.
I will make a habit of ordering Capicola Ham as a test of a pizza establishment, mostly because cheap owners think they can buffalo the ignorant masses with a lame alternative of ham and a pathetic sprinkling of cayenne pepper.
Sad to say Glenwood takes the cheap, easy out, and provides the ham and cayenne. Tisk,tisk,tisk...
Glenwood: you could be so much more. But alas you cave to the almighty dollar. Shame.
When this terrible travesty was discovered, and the establishment was confronted with the deception, I was put on hold whilst a convenient excuse was formulated. You will recall from the earlier rantings that I had made two excursions into the Glenwood culinary world, three years prior I might add. Well knock me down and call me Susan if they didn't give me the same tripe of an excuse as last time.."That's all we had tonight".What?
HAM is all you ever have Glenwood! Please don't disrespect the residents of Brookswood by passing off Ham and Cayenne as Capicola! If you don't have Capicola, say you don't have it and I will order something else. Can you imagine ordering a Hawaiian and getting Tomatoes instead of Pinapple and getting the excuse "That's all we had"? Not a chance!
The truth is, Glenwood is not the only one playing the phony Capicola Shame.. Oh I mean Game... 3 Stars
