Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The1499 Anderson St., Vancouver
Disappointing
Submitted Friday, October 27, 2006 - 2:42pm [Dine in]

Having been to a number of other Keg locations, I'd developed a certain level of expectation. Unfortunately wasn't met here. We were seated in a booth and it was very very dark. I guess they are going for mood lighting, but I thought it was a bit much. So much so, that when I first examined my steak, I had to verify with my party that it was well done since it was hard to see. Turns out it was, which was exactly how I didn't order it (I ordered medium rare), and I had to wait for the server to come back. I waited probably about 10 minutes when I finally flagged someone else over to let them know the problem. They were very apologetic and I got another steak which was cooked the way I wanted it. It was good, though my garlic mashed potatoes didn't seem as garlicy and buttery as I remember them in the past. It was nice that they ended up comping the steak, but I don't think I'd go to this location again, at least not until I forget this experience a little bit.

Good every once in a while
Submitted Friday, October 27, 2006 - 2:11pm [Dine in]

I love sushi and eat it A LOT. This is a place I like to go on occasion for a bit of variety. Everything is huge here- definitely not one bite sushi. I really enjoy the california rolls with the shredded crab. Again, not a place I like to go all the time, but it's cheap and good. It's impossible to be hungry after eating here!

Good, but not as amazing as remembered...
Submitted Thursday, October 5, 2006 - 9:59am [Dine in]

Went here earlier this year, and remember really enjoying it, so decided to check it out again. Got a nice table towards the back- love the atmosphere of this place. The server pretty much forgot about us, so didn't come around to take our order for at least 15 minutes. I ordered the Andy Warhol and salmon crunch rolls. The Andy Warhol wasn't that great- a few of the pieces were mostly rice and the rice was kind of packed- tasted like it had been pre-made. The salmon crunch roll, however, was amazing and the pieces were presented like they were petals of a flower. Didn't find it spicy though, like it was supposedly to be. I'd check this place out again- they have so many different and creative rolls to choose from, I'd never have to order the same thing twice. Also, I'd like to try their avocado salad.

A hidden gem!

I also decided to try this place out based on previous reviews. What a great little place! The salmon sashimi is big and tasty, and I loved the alaska roll with the pieces of salmon draped over them. Good portions, reasonable prices. The service was good, until we got our food- then they seemed to forget about us. No matter- I will definitely be back here. I like Sushi Garden, but when you can go to a place of similar quality and not have to wait ages in line, I'm there!

High Expectations not completely met
Submitted Monday, September 25, 2006 - 9:58am [Dine in]

Having been to Bombay Bhel in Toronto a number of times, when I found out they had opened a location in Vancouver, I was more than thrilled. Had the butter chicken w/ naan. To be completely honest, the butter chicken is better at Tandoori King. Very good, attentive service. Clean, yet somewhat boring surroundings. A bit disappointed, considering my high expectations.

Try the burger!!!
Submitted Friday, September 22, 2006 - 4:59pm [Dine in]

Basically, this place has been raved about by my friends, so I went there with very high expectations. I ordered the organic beef burger w/ blue cheese and fries (an even $10). Oh, I was not dissappointed!! You get a healthy portion of melted blue cheese, and the bun is more like a focaccia bread. It was so good!!! The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere- you are definitely getting better value going here than to Vera's for about the same price. I highly recommend!

Great place, great prices
Submitted Thursday, August 31, 2006 - 3:04pm [Dine in]

Very reasonably priced food, with a very large menu. My favourite is the oyster burger- oh, so delish! Both the sweet potato fries and regular fries are also good. Love the atmosphere. The only thing I'm not that fond of is the oyster soup- more tomatoey than oystery. Would definitely recommend this place

Great all you can eat menu
Submitted Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 1:24pm [Dine in]

Went here for dinner and was impressed by the offerings on the all you can eat menu. So much to choose from. First time I'd seen prawn gyoza on a menu. The breaded oysters were also a nice touch. As usual, I was mainly concentrating on the sushi and enjoyed it a lot. Would definitely return.

Okay, but overrated
Submitted Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 1:13pm [Dine in]

I have visited the Noodle Box in Victoria as well- boy, is this place packed! I think people are drawn to the novelty take-out boxes that you can get your food served in- I have to admit, they are quite cute. The food is okay, but I think you can get a similar quality meal for less money elsewhere. I found the medium spicyness to be quite hot, just a word to the wise. It's okay, but not a place I'd visit again and again.

What happened to salmon sashimi??
Submitted Monday, August 21, 2006 - 2:40pm [Dine in]

Went there for lunch, and I was unpleasantly surprised to see that salmon sashimi was not on the menu!! What?? Not sure when this disappeared- I was at the Granville location about a month ago, and salmon sashimi was definitely a go. Also noticed at Burrard that they didn't have any cones with salmon in them. Pretty much all you could get with salmon was salmon sushi and salmon rolls. Kind of boring. Food quality was fairly good, but I could get the same or better elsewhere (and also get salmon sashimi).

I just don't feel the same way
Submitted Monday, August 21, 2006 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

Everyone raves about the ice cream here, but I've tried it a few times from now and can't make myself like it. The last time I went I got the chocolate dipped cone and the chocolate had a distinctly nutty flavour which I didn't quite enjoy. To be honest, I much prefer Dairy Queen over this place.

The Awful service makes me wonder if I want to return..
Submitted Tuesday, July 11, 2006 - 10:26am [Dine in]

First of all, my friends and I waited at the door for at least 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Then, when someone finally came by, we asked if we could get the booth. The server walks away and never comes back!!! When we do get seated, the server was in a horrible mood and we were almost scared to ask her anything. The food was quite good, but the service completed turned me off.

Yummy and cheap!
Submitted Tuesday, July 11, 2006 - 10:22am [Dine in]

I've been to Sushi Bar numerous times and keep on going back. The place looks kind of non-descript from the outside, but is quite pleasant on the inside. The sushi is good and inexpensive, and the gomae is very good. It's close to my house, so I'm constantly getting take out. Try it!!
